    Nice video, I appreciate the sound of the bike as opposed to bad music overlay. Ducati should sell a lot of these, same engine as my Hypermotard. Great engine ❤️🇮🇹🏍

    I totally agree with you, except for the low rev performance. I have no off road skills but did take offroad and enjoyed the handling. Suspension IS very good for onroad, and with the OEM tyre (Pirelli Rally STR) I was able to scratchen the footpegs with confidence. The screen and turbulence is extremely loud and I ended taking it off while cruising on the highway. All in all I love the bike and how it's handling onroad.

      I can only share my own opinion here and I much preferred the low rev handling of 890 Adventure, Tiger 900, Tenere 700, 850 GS, Tiger 800 and Norden. But Kudos to your skills mate!!! :)

    Do you know what Schaaf... I dig your videos because you ride everything and enjoy every bike it seems. The fact that you ragged a RE350 and had good things to say about it reinforced my opinion that true bikers just love two wheels, an engine and some winding tarmac. Oh and forgot to add... I'm such a dude LOL.

    It's incredible that to this day there is still the only ONE great Pure Video and Audio and POV motorcycle content creator on YT! Our Schaaf! Thanks to you we saw, and heard, so many bikes in a way we wouldn't never be able to anywhere else by anyone else. Your quality is unbeatable! My favourite ones are from old Honda XRV 750 (when I told my story about my father owning every Africa Twin in his life), BMW R1200 and 1250GS, Tenere 700.     Hi Shaaf! To be honest for my taste, it is not really beautiful, but from your test it seems to me that it goes quite well, a nice engine and it seems to me that even the quick shifter is very fast and precise, I like it especially the sound in downshifting. I can't wait for the next bike and ride.

    Für mich sieht dass wie das perfekte Bike aus, wenn man es nicht so fett braucht wie KTM 1290 SAS oder GS, aber ein bisschen mehr will wie Tenéré und co.
    Und die Optik/Sound ist auch mega geil!
    Hat Ducati echt gut gemacht.

      Thank God ! At least there's one guy who knows what he's talking about ! Yes, this Desert X design has nothing 'futuristic' like I've read in a comment above, and definitely looks like it's coming straight from the 80's (i.e. Cagiva Elefant (which was closely tied to Ducati in the first place), 1986 Yamaha XT600 Tenere, 1988 Honda XRV650 Africa Twin ...).
      Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater. I love Ducati and their designs for the most part. But they should leave this segment to the KTMs, Honda, Yamaha and even BMW to a certain extent. Especially with such an ugly look. I'm not sure why Ducati decided to get into that competitive market.

    I think that the build quality is due to the dealer, since the hand guards are installed after the bike is delivered.

    Going from indian ftr to an adventure and been looking at 1290 and 890, the duke was the same as my ftr honestly. But the desert looks awesome, and specs look great any thoughts between ktm and ducati?

    Odd how they put that black pattern on the front windscreen. I guess it was just for aesthetics but I'd rather it was clear all the way down . Funny stuff when that fastener that holds the bar end weight/hand guard comes sliding out.

    I know these Paris-Dakar bikes use that vertical dash setup a lot, but it looks kinda weird, too 'my phone is blocking the dash' ish. I'd also like for the lady to sing a bit louder so to speak, feels pretty muted...damn Euro-5 ;) In the looks department though, it's an absolute gem (although I'm not 'that kind of bike' person).

    Off road riding is forbidden in the land of KTM... It appalls me every time I hear it. Then this DesertX really has nothing over a Multistrada. (But I'd want one anyway)

      ​@@gokulkrishm51 yes. you're not allowed to go off the road anywhere in the country. most gravel roads are also forbidden (also for mountainbikers).
      you must be lucky to find a few kms of unpaved road somewehere in the country where you can legally ride on

    Did you find the engine smooth regarding vibrations on the saddle? Before buying my 850 GS Adventure I tried a Multi V2 but the two are opposites, I liked the handling of the latter more, but it was vibrating along all the rev range, while the GS was butter smooth at least until 5k revs

      Ducati engines are never really smooth. But the vibrations don't have an annoying frequency so it's fine

    One thing to note on this bike is that pretty well all of the reviews are on new machines. I have heard that the KTM890R is faster, that the Desert X is no good at low speeds and all sorts of comments that I think are premature. I have owned a Desert X for a bit now and it was between the Desert X and the 890R. Here is what I can tell you....once the engine breaks in the low speed clunkiness disappears, once the first service is done Ducati opens up the map (New and before the first service the fueling map has limitations) The bike basically has nothing past 6k RPM until after the 1st service. Once the first service happens it is a different beast and I assure you it is faster than the KTM. I found the Desert X to be more stable off-road than my Husky 701, easier to ride all around offroad. Yes it weighs more but it carries its weight better than other ADV bikes I have ridden including the 701. Because of the long wheel base it is incredibly stable both on and off road. I also own a 2021 BMW GS and while the GS is a better road bike it cannot come close off road. A larger windshield on the DX would make it very good for long distance travel...not as plush as a GS but I would have no problem riding it across the country but be able to do more.

      I assure you that press bikes are in top notch condition. They get broken in and serviced before they're handed over to the Journos. Ducati especially makes sure to only give the finest machines to the press ;)

    schaaf I have a question for you. How strict is the non road recording law in Austria from a riders perspective. Whenever I'm passing through Austria we're always told to take off our onboard cameras because you could get a ticket for it. Cheers man

      It's simply not true. Forbidden are permanently recording dash cams. Action cameras are legal to use

    I always trust your review because of your skill level and always riding the bike hard. Would you prefer this or the 890 adv for aggressive road riding? Assuming tires are the same and suspension is set

      Doesn't really matter. Both are performing in an outstanding way when riding fast on the road. The 890 has the better Quickshifter, the Duc needs less input on the bars

    What if you compare this machine against a KTM 1190 R ? Is it as topheavy ? Is your impression that it would handle much better offroad then a 1190 R ? It looks like it has more then enough juice. 👍
    But please ride safe. I can see that you have experience but sometimes it also depends on another factor to stay safe.
    So please ? We only would now this by your absense over a longer period.

    Austria doesn’t allow any off-road riding? I thought California was restrictive with where you can ride offroad and with what kind of bike!
