It's a really cool bike! It's certainly not perfect but it's exciting to think about what the future could hold with refining the technology. Just imagining a crisp inline 4 cylinder screaming in the canyons and then silently cruising around town in scooter mode, lol.
Having to come to a full stop to switch in and out of full electric mode is really a poor design. I guess it's ok if you spend a long time in a city (but then I guess the battery range must not be very big), but you'll end up not using it when you're just crossing a town if it's only a few kilometres long, while benefitting from the noise reduction would have been great in that situation. Anyway, thanks for this honest short review.
That's actually a great point. For cars, the tire noise outweighs engine noise at moderate city speeds, so an electric or an ICU are almost the same noise level for pedestrians. But for bikes, having the option to shut off the ICU mid-ride when you're going through a habitated area should bring immense noise benefits. Tire noise is basically irrelevant in comaprison

A very decent go at hybrid tech on bikes I think. Will make for a cool option for cities that will start allowing electric-only transport within them - and still looks pretty enjoyable to ride once in sport mode. If only we can sustainably manufacture & dispose of batteries & motors...
You idiots only worry about "sustainability" when it comes to batteries, none of you were ever out there crying about the oil industry. And motors? An electric motor is mostly a lot of copper wire and permanent magnets. "If only we can dispose of copper wire," when people are ripping it out of the walls to sell to recycling plants. You don't have a god damned clue what you're talking about.
Not for me, at least right now, but im interested to see how it develops. Im alot more pessimistic for ev/hybrid full size motorcycles like these compared to cars and trucks.
electric motor mated before gearbox is a inefficient way of execution in my opinion cars usually integrate separately or on final drive more efficient and also less clunky but I feel this has potential with correct execution
It looks like a very good commuter bike, or at least it could to be. Acceptable performance on freeways, and in or around cities where the traffic becomes dense, switch to electric and avoid the heat and noise from the engine (and that awful sound, sounds like a lawnmower). Probably will have some teething issues and the fact you cannot change modes while riding is annoying, but it does have potential. Later they should also make a Versys style version of it.
14k for a 450cc😅 it's not that I'm against the tech buy if its going to be the trend to double the price for small displacement bikes it would be a No no for me.
that bike seems to make a lot of Fun somehow 😁..... i would like to testride one. the only thing that is sad is you need to be under 25kmh to switch from pure EV to HEV Mode (no need to fully stop, its possible between 0-25kmh and throttle closed).... it would be very cool if you can switch between the modes at 0-60kmh because it would be much more useful and safer when you leave the City.... sure you could switch to HEV at the last Traffic Light in the City.... but the added possibility to switch between 0-60 would be much better anyway its a cool piece of tech........ im pretty sure Kawa will figure this out in the next Gen HEV Bikes....
If I was commuting from home every day (from the agglomeration with faster roads through our capital city with slow moving traffic) I would probably buy one of these. I think it would cut the fuel consumption in the city by a lot since the speeds rarely exceed 30kmh and the electric motor seemed to be able to handle that. But definitely wouldn't buy one of these for fun. :D It's more like a workhorse. But I really like the idea of hybrids. Hopefully they can improve the tech and put it in bigger bikes.
What are the performance numbers on this thing? I Google them and get nothing but the mpg figures and how fast it will go on battery only. All of things most riders could care less about. I guess this is just a proof of concept. Will be a hard sell in the US.
The parallel hybrid approach gives more of the sound and feel of a traditional motorcycle. What’s going to fry our brains is riding series hybrids where the engine is not part of the drivetrain, but just a generator for a more powerful electric motor.
No, it doesn't. 180 degree parallel twins never sound good. They sound like souped up lawnmowers. The only reason I tolerate the Ninja 500 is because it's so light and cheap.
That’s like a hybrid corolla. Its not great but it gets the job done. Imho hybrid systems has a better future than the electrics. Its good to see hybrid bikes
What are you talking about? Honda DCTs have had the buttons to shift gears on your left hand for as far as i can remember. They even make a shifter-style button for your left foot....?!
@@Driftuner what are you talking about? Read my comment again. By the way, Schaaf will know what I’m talking about. No one has even invited you to this comment, what do you want here?
I can see a use case in a big scooter used for commuting to the big busy city. But other than that, no. It just adds weight and complexitiy. Better add 100cc, much cheaper.
If the bike could go at least 100 in all electric and could last for atleast 20 KM. Then you would have a winner. Make the shifting the same as with any other bike and it would be great
I want someone to make a bike with about the same power as a grom but in electric form (that isn't one of those underpowered Chinese e-grom clones) I love riding my ebike around town, but that's limited to around 25mph
Hats off to Kawasaki for actually releasing this bike to the public, but tbh, it just reaffirms to me that hybrid drivetrains are a dead-end and a waste of time in motorcycles.
I don’t think a hybrid makes much sense on a Ninja sports bike. Would think a cruiser would benefit more from a hybrid system. It would be different if the battery assisted the engine in generating more power, but it only works in hybrid mode below 40 mph. The Eliminator is half the price and gets 70 mpg cruising at 60 mph. Try to get the Kawasaki Eliminator 500 and see how it does in the twisties.
fuel-consumption definitely is not a pro-argument, indeed there's combustion only which need less. But it's the complete silence in town that's a killer feature

electric motor mated before gearbox is a inefficient way of execution in my opinion cars usually integrate separately or on final drive more efficient and also less clunky
but I feel this has potential with correct execution
definitely!
Indeed, I'm also hoping to see this inside a Versys.
14k for a 450cc😅 it's not that I'm against the tech buy if its going to be the trend to double the price for small displacement bikes it would be a No no for me.
Thanks for sharing!
that bike seems to make a lot of Fun somehow 😁..... i would like to testride one.
the only thing that is sad is you need to be under 25kmh to switch from pure EV to HEV Mode (no need to fully stop, its possible between 0-25kmh and throttle closed).... it would be very cool if you can switch between the modes at 0-60kmh because it would be much more useful and safer when you leave the City....
sure you could switch to HEV at the last Traffic Light in the City.... but the added possibility to switch between 0-60 would be much better
anyway its a cool piece of tech........
im pretty sure Kawa will figure this out in the next Gen HEV Bikes....
Agreed! Thanks
0:25 You be you Schaaf xD
Standard forks on this bike and it sounds like a jet ski. Let’s see if these sell
the standard forks do a fantastic job though. Recently rode the Z500 against its competitors. ABsolutely sublime suspension, standard forks too.
Seems Crazy Fast for a 500 cc ... it's really fast
Thanks
3:53 dont think I didnt see your glove has a hole in it. The reviews not getting you enough money?? Be smart
I hope it won’t cost too much when maintaining
The electric part has no maintenance. The combustion part is just like any other 450cc 2 cylinder bike
You left those silly trikes in the dust 😅 Pegs touching down early aren't they?
Not really, it's just that the bike's stability and geometry is very confidence inspiring to go low while keeping things safe
I seemed to have missed the fast-ish bit, unless you were speaking about the one straight bit.
Your mum told me not to go any faster and for obvious reasons I listen to her
@@Schaaf Patronizing poes.
If Kawasaki were to put something like this in the KLR I would definitely consider it
Interesting bike! Maybe the future of a liter bike would be a mt09 engine with a big motor!
oooh yeeaa!
Ninja 7 Hybrid .... wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤
I think it will be a hard sell everywhere. But it's great that a manufacturer is showing some balls
The parallel hybrid approach gives more of the sound and feel of a traditional motorcycle. What’s going to fry our brains is riding series hybrids where the engine is not part of the drivetrain, but just a generator for a more powerful electric motor.
interesting thought indeed
Like the New Honda Jazz😮
Wow actually sounds good.
not in person, this is bike is getting A TON of help from the microphone... it is just another 180º crank bike...
No, it doesn't. 180 degree parallel twins never sound good. They sound like souped up lawnmowers. The only reason I tolerate the Ninja 500 is because it's so light and cheap.
@@aluisious they sound like wet farts
thanks!
The bike Kawasaki made that nobody asked for. They make this crap but not a modern KLR/adventure bike.
Next upload Duke 390 please 🙏🏻🙏🏻
That’s like a hybrid corolla. Its not great but it gets the job done. Imho hybrid systems has a better future than the electrics. Its good to see hybrid bikes
it's definitely more appealing but I don't know if it's the right way to go, we'll see
The switch from electric to gas 🤤
Hybrid motorcycles are smart. Batteries need to get smaller and lighter for full electric motorcycles to really take off.
Yes, why not.
It will be enforced before it happens. Wait and see.
yea
Holy Army of the Mighty Keyboard Warrior ... LOL 😆
;)
Imagine they had a inline 4 one that just boosted the zx4r engine into the upper range like a turbo lag
That would be neat indeed
All these Honda DCT’s, and this is the first bike for you to use buttons to shift gears. How was this even possible to happen?! 🤣🤣 Great video. 💪🏻
@@CROtourer oh yes, i misread your comment, now i get it, sorry. Invited?! LOL welcome to the internet kid 🤣
@@Driftuner some character who can’t even properly read comments calls me a “kid”. Fucking serious?
@@CROtourer had a bad day there buddy? You seem pretty stressed out man
I can see a use case in a big scooter used for commuting to the big busy city. But other than that, no. It just adds weight and complexitiy. Better add 100cc, much cheaper.
But not more silent ;)
I like it. Sounds cool to me
thanks!
Kawasaki híbrido combustible y electric power!!!🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
woohoooo!
If the bike could go at least 100 in all electric and could last for atleast 20 KM. Then you would have a winner. Make the shifting the same as with any other bike and it would be great
I want someone to make a bike with about the same power as a grom but in electric form (that isn't one of those underpowered Chinese e-grom clones)
I love riding my ebike around town, but that's limited to around 25mph
that would be cool indeed
Gracias!
Hats off to Kawasaki for actually releasing this bike to the public, but tbh, it just reaffirms to me that hybrid drivetrains are a dead-end and a waste of time in motorcycles.
Probably, a fun one though
A turbo boost button!?! Yes!
Indeed!
Motorsound better than most of the actual bikes WTF 😂🙈
Not as bad as I thought.
Interesting but still too expensive.
And really goes like hell oO?!
for a bike with an engine this small it indeed goes quick
looked like nasty gear changes when electric only
they're also clunky in hybrid auto mode
basically ticks every box except charging port. don't really feel the need to waste gasoline on my daily commute.
The motorbike is really powerful
