I respect Dan's willingness to ask stupid questions a lot more than people pointing them out. I wonder how many of you also don't know basic shit and never will because you were too afraid to ask? One day Dan might know something that you don't, and it'll be hilariously ironic.
Yeah pat yourself on the back, knightly defender of idiots who apparently skipped any kind of education. Asking stupid questions is nothing to be proud of.
Well, if 90% of questions asked are too unrealistic, ofcourse the general answer will be "no". The devs and their game have limitations and deadlines, you can't expect everything at once. And especially big things like space warfare. If they were to add everything everybody wants them to add, it would be a diluted game. A jack of all trades, master of none. And nobody wants that.
You know, I don't understand why people get mad at Dan for his dumb shit. When he called chickens mammals, sure I thought "Wow Dan you're pretty dumb". But no part of me gets angry at him for it. I'd just want to explain what makes a bird a bird or whatever. He's ignorant, not stupid; if people explain shit to him he seems perfectly willing to learn stuff. Then again people get mad about fucking everything. It's kinda disheartening.
I think it's more that he's in a position of privilege and he comes across as a moron so people think 'HE got into the industry that I love and I feel like he doesn't deserve it.
LOL, I'm in my early 40's and don't know this information either. I mean, I'm sure I learned it all in school at some point, but never had a reason to retain it.
IDK how much anxiety has afflicted Dan but I imagine the reason he acts this way is so that he doesn't enable his own anxiety which is always why I've always just chuckled at Dan's lack of knowledge. Perhaps he's not this misinformed in reality. It would make sense to me though. Overthinking things tends to be a common psychological pitfall for people with anxiety. Over analysis, the inability to move forward because there is a focus on thinking and acting correctly in the present. I've met a lot of people with severe anxiety problems who tend to not really be into the whole thinking constantly thing.
I love these Quick Look videos. I like an experienced player explaining the mechanics to new players and listening to the dynamic. It makes it exciting for some reason.
But it doesn't have a mountain of things to do. During the 1 hour I've seen so far they run around on empty planets and shoot at things to gather stuff so they can go to the next empty planet to shot at things to collect even more of the same stuff. Sure it look sort of cool to explore planets and fly trough space.... but in the end it just a lot of non content.
+Simon May people don't understand that you can do way more than what they've seen having seen only one hour of gameplay... it's better not to try and convince... it's like if it doesn't have witcher style quests and gameplay there isn't anything to do for them... it takes imagination, you actually have to make your own narrative to it... wanna be a trader? you can! wanna be a space pirate? you can! make your own story, folks...
+fenrif that's nice. isn't really a bad thing... thanks for sharing! can't wait for the game! gonna be awesome to use my imagination for once in such a long time in a game instead of the story and everything else being laid out for me! can not wait to discover everything! have a nice time with your games, man! I sure wouldn't judge you for liking a game I don't, nor would I say that game is stupid or boring for EVERYONE. I realize my opinion isn't the only one out there, and people have different tastes. have a good time!
Dan, everything with mass has gravity, even you. Its just a tiny amount. If you have something as big as the moon it adds up. Earth is huge, so it has a lot of gravity pulling you down to the ground. Moon is smaller so has less. The moon does not have enough gravity to pull the water of the oceans up to itself and overcome earth's gravity, it can pull it up a little. So the water forms a kind of hill pointing to the moon on the side the moon currently is on. Since the earth rotates the water hill moves along around the earth's surface. That's where the tides come from.
Really all three of them have to be about as dumb of people as I have ever heard talk in general. I loved their like Kirble Space Program stuff... but man how far off they were with some shit some times... astounding.
Interestingly, there are actually two tidal bulges that are formed: one on the side of the moon, and one on the opposite side as well. The first is from the moon pulling the water, and the second is from the moon pulling the earth more than the water on the far side.
if i remember correctly, they way star wars explained hyperdrives, is if u dont run the numbers, "we'll be smeared accross several differient star systems."
I like how you stated your opinion respectfully rather than calling the game stupid like it's a fact and anyone who buys it a pathetic moron... this comment was refreshing to see...
I was actually just talking to a friend about this. About half of this video is them not talking about the game......that's not a great indicator of entertainment.
I love the tangent that Vinny and Dan go on while Alex just kinda plays. I believe the duration of this quick look was just a vehicle for another one of Dan's learning lessons.
MrRukale But you still only mentioned one other space exploration game, Elite dangerous, which was shallow trash - so I'm not seeing your point - this genre seems wide open
MrRukale You thinking space engineers, starbound and Eve are good substitutes makes your opinion incredibly untrustworthy. Go do whatever you want, hating on a game just because it's the thing to do right now.
Listening to Dan's science questions and Vinny's inability to explain phenomena REALLY makes me wish I was there to explain things to Dan, haha. The gravity discussion drove me insane!
So depressing seeing so many people wanting this game to fail. Can't people just appreciate people find enjoyment from different things, I'm just excited to see something new and unique.
Mainly because of the hype. I was indifferent towards this game, it's looks repetitive and boring, it's just not for me. But after seeing a comment that stated "This will revolutionise gaming" i started to become really cynical it, because it feeds into the hype/pre-order culture.
the game is exactly how we've seen it in all those 500 videos they released along the years. cool or not, to think it was something else is just plain stupid.
Could you explain what it is you find interesting with what you see? No, I'm seriously curious to hear what you like about it in as much detail as possible :)
For reference, tides work by gravity of the moon. The moon does have gravity, as does any other object with mass, although it is quite far away so we don't feel it(although we still are affected by it). So water gets attracted to the moon a little bit, and as we have a lot of water height, that is enough to make a relatively small difference of a few meters of water height, i.e. tides.
+Casepb does the moon have gravity and are chickens mammals are question you should know the answer too by the time you're in middle school. It basic knowledge
oh man, submarines or other vehicles would really add something to the game, base building too... Or maybe just a big capital ship as your home, with hangars for smaller ships and a bigger jump engine. This game has the potential to be awesome.
I feel like they didn't explain this game at all. 90% of the time they were babbling about nonsense, instead of the game. I don't expect in depth analysis, but this is more like a "let's play" rather than a "quick look". If you guys can't be bothered to research, or even talk about the game while recording these, you might as well stop making them.
looks pretty much like i was expecting, i'm cool with this. the only thing that irks me is the draw distance/pop-in, and the FOV, but hopefully there's some kind of work around for that with the PC version.
Just played from 11-2..I say meh. I enjoy a grind, UT this game is repetitive. I appreciate the visuals and finding new planets, but it seems pretty basic. You collect materials with a too small inventory, so you can fly to another planet, to collect materials to fly to another planet, to collect materials to fly to another ooooo intelligent life. Ok, now same thing. over and over and over.
A moon can have an atmosphere. What separates a moon from a planet, is that a moon orbits a planet, or at least any celestial body that's not a sun/star. Planets, on the other hand, normally orbits a sun/star. But just as with everything else, it's not that simple. There are for example things like rogue planets, planets that once orbited a star, but was cast adrift by whatever caused a gravitational push strong enough to throw a planet out of orbit. And then there's Pluto, which isn't a planet, but isn't a moon either. But it is a satellite still, orbiting the sun. And, not satellite as in some technical device we sent up in orbit, but satellite as in one celestial body orbiting another celestial body. I haven't heard of rogue moons though, but I'm sure that we wouldn't call our moon a rogue planet if it suddenly was ripped away from us and sent flying without aim away from our solar system. Fancy stuff. Do I sound like a wiseacre know-it-all? Because I really want that. Because I don't know it all and I don't want that to show.
Asking stupid questions is better than not knowing things and never trying to learn.
It's great that he's willing to ask stupid questions. I just wish less of the stupid questions were happening during quick looks.
+AbraHaze84 I totally understand that, if he doubled down on a "and I'm proud of it" stance I'd hate him.
Dan is also pretty much just acting dumb, he also has written books about anxiety and... alligators..
Here's the abridged version of the video
'Can you do _____?
'No.'
yeah because nobody listen3d to what yhey said you can and cannot do
DooMest because everytime someone asked sean he'd just say 'we dont' want to spoil anything'
What Sean really meant was it wouldn't be ready until launch day. ;)
+MrChapinz just accept reality!
no man's sky is shit and you are in denial
oh my fucking god that FOV
where you guys stuck zoomed-in or something?
there's FOV sliders
Pretty sure they said that they're working on adding FOV sliders, they aren't in the current build.
Definitely for PC.
Custom FOV coming to PC version on 12th
You know, I don't understand why people get mad at Dan for his dumb shit. When he called chickens mammals, sure I thought "Wow Dan you're pretty dumb". But no part of me gets angry at him for it. I'd just want to explain what makes a bird a bird or whatever. He's ignorant, not stupid; if people explain shit to him he seems perfectly willing to learn stuff.
Then again people get mad about fucking everything. It's kinda disheartening.
It's pretty incredible you can reach his age without knowing that the moon has gravity, and that chickens are not mammals.
I think it's more that he's in a position of privilege and he comes across as a moron so people think 'HE got into the industry that I love and I feel like he doesn't deserve it.
It really fucking pisses me off when people get mad. SO FUCKING ANNOYING!
LOL, I'm in my early 40's and don't know this information either. I mean, I'm sure I learned it all in school at some point, but never had a reason to retain it.

"Is feathers different from hair?" - Dan Ryckert, 2016
Someone put that on a shirt. It'll be the new "People like grapes."
Did Dan go to school as a child?
I believe so, but he is the man that didn't know how to cook eggs until his 20's
He came out of the womb as a 20 year old man child.
he was a film major apparently
Didn't he grow up in Kansas? Unsurprising.
@wisdumcube Was he dead or alive?
I love these Quick Look videos. I like an experienced player explaining the mechanics to new players and listening to the dynamic. It makes it exciting for some reason.
I sense a common theme here.
"Can you do--"
"Nope."
"Is this in the game?"
"Nope."
With a game like this that has a mountain of things to do, the things that stick out will be the things you can't do.
+Simon May cool rhyme
+Simon May people don't understand that you can do way more than what they've seen having seen only one hour of gameplay... it's better not to try and convince... it's like if it doesn't have witcher style quests and gameplay there isn't anything to do for them... it takes imagination, you actually have to make your own narrative to it... wanna be a trader? you can! wanna be a space pirate? you can! make your own story, folks...

The midgame* conversations on this video about mammals versus birds versus eggs is fucking hilarious.
+Strix both hilarious and sad...
Strix Yeah, 100%
This game would be a lot more interesting if a commentary track of Vinny and Dan played the entire time I was playing.
Procedurally generated Dan and Vinny sounds great.
Wtf, chickens lay eggs dude! The only mammals that lay eggs are the platypus and the easter bunny.
Dan, everything with mass has gravity, even you. Its just a tiny amount. If you have something as big as the moon it adds up. Earth is huge, so it has a lot of gravity pulling you down to the ground. That's where the tides come from.
That Dan guy has to be the dumbest dude I've heard talk on youtube yet
Dan doesn't know lots of things. He's good at wrestling and metal gear trivia though.
Really all three of them have to be about as dumb of people as I have ever heard talk in general. I loved their like Kirble Space Program stuff... but man how far off they were with some shit some times... astounding.
People Laugh at dan now, laugh at him when his PMC comes knocking.
This game looks really tedious to play. It's cool as a small budget game but I wouldn't pay $60 for it.
so wait for a sale. easy peasy.
+AStandsForFrench nah dude just get it on amazon for $48 with prime
I like how you stated your opinion respectfully rather than calling the game stupid like it's a fact and anyone who buys it a pathetic moron... this comment was refreshing to see...
it'll be on sale on eBay for next to nothing very soon.
From 1,300 to NextToNothing in 60 seconds. :D
No man`s turd. looks like crap. Jeez worse than a wii u game.
That's where you're wrong kiddo
Oh no, colors! An art style that isn't black on brown?! Must be a bad game.
Same goes for your blanket assessment of all wii u games.
Fuck off, Wii U's awesome.
Link?
"are there grenades?"
"can you shoot your way through the planet and come out on the other side?"
dan ryckert, asking the important questions XD
Oh my god. Listening to Dan talk about how chickens are mammals because, "they're covered in hair." makes me weep for my country.
I like the parts where Vinnie and Dan ask serious questions or make serious suggestions, and Alex just ignores them
next time someone makes a scifi game, i want my spaceship to come with a tape deck.
this video would have failed it's elementary school science test
Holy shit. Are any birds mammals? You learned this shit in first grade, man!
go back in time for an hour, I would go back to myself at 12 with a 2016 sports almanac.
"I PAINTED MY DOLPHIN ALL THE WAY GREEN, HE DIDN'T KNOW SHIT."
Man. Giant Bomb Science Talk with Dan Rykert is a hell of a thing.
My eyes actually lit up when I saw this in my queue!
I like how even the press thought players could meet up in the game. No Man's Lie.
Vinny trying to explain space to Dan is the best thing.
It's telling how they seem to have completely ignored talking about the game in the last 30-45 minutes or so.
I was actually just talking to a friend about this. About half of this video is them not talking about the game......that's not a great indicator of entertainment.
Dan and Alex quicklooks forever. It's like Pinky and the Brain. I love it.
"If you go into that factory will you get a mission Fallout-style?"
Vinny pls...
I love the tangent that Vinny and Dan go on while Alex just kinda plays. I believe the duration of this quick look was just a vehicle for another one of Dan's learning lessons.
Geeze... the comments on this so far. Just watch the video. Game seems highly original and innovative
show me a few of those exploration games that do it better.
Looks just like Starbound but in 3D. You even have a matter manipulator.
No? You actually couldn't have a similar experience, they are very different games.
Listening to Dan's science questions and Vinny's inability to explain phenomena REALLY makes me wish I was there to explain things to Dan, haha. The gravity discussion drove me insane!
I'm 99% sure Dan is from another planet.
So depressing seeing so many people wanting this game to fail. Can't people just appreciate people find enjoyment from different things, I'm just excited to see something new and unique.
And so are you ;)
You see, proper constructive criticism and "Hurr-durr, this game is so bad!" or "I knew this game would flop", are different things.
Lots of people enjoy being negative, especially when their RL identity is not on display.
This is by far the best commentary of NMS I have heard so far! Nice one boys!
Cant wait to play! We get it at midnight tonight in EU
Man why did I even scroll down... people are such downers. I think this looks great.
It's "cool" to hate on No Man's Sky
Mainly because of the hype. I was indifferent towards this game, it's looks repetitive and boring, it's just not for me. But after seeing a comment that stated "This will revolutionise gaming" i started to become really cynical it, because it feeds into the hype/pre-order culture.

No, I'm seriously curious to hear what you like about it in as much detail as possible :)
[RBRI]Khaela Are you asking me? This seems like a great game for me to chill on at night before bed and explore and trade on. It seems perfect for me.
God the FOV is awful. I really hope the PC version comes with an FOV slider, otherwise I doubt I'll be able to actually enjoy this.
Yeah it is. But i saw a lot of people asking HG on twitter about it. Really hope they fix it.
Sean answered in an AmA yesterday that FOV sliders are coming along soon.
Fabien Von H Awesome news
The crying about fov without doing research, it has literally been said multiple times.
***** Links ?
Dan is an incredible human being, and he will never cease to amaze me.
For reference, tides work by gravity of the moon. The moon does have gravity, as does any other object with mass, although it is quite far away so we don't feel it(although we still are affected by it). So water gets attracted to the moon a little bit, and as we have a lot of water height, that is enough to make a relatively small difference of a few meters of water height, i.e. tides.
It's incredible how little these guys know about physics or biology.
hurrr durr does the moon have gravity?
'Murica!
That is basic knowledge that every human should have. Questions like "are birds mammals?" is something maybe a kid in elementary school would ask.
+Casepb does the moon have gravity and are chickens mammals are question you should know the answer too by the time you're in middle school. It basic knowledge
Yet they somehow knew all the classification levels of species... but didn't know chickens are not mammals...
How does Dan not know how the moon and the tides work?
This looks super chill and fun. I'll definitely be playing it. This was also one of my favorite QLs in a while - the rapport was perfect!
This also seems like a really good game to just put on a podcast while playing
"Plutonium. That's on the periodic table, right?"
>
oh man, submarines or other vehicles would really add something to the game, base building too... Or maybe just a big capital ship as your home, with hangars for smaller ships and a bigger jump engine. This game has the potential to be awesome.
The synthesizer while warping reminds me of Joel teaching Crow about making a new-agey soundtrack with a wall of keyboards.
dan doesn't know what a fucking moon is
anyone else enjoy that little fumble through biology?
The comment about Gods studio flooding got totally overlooked!
Looks fun, glad they will be adding base building to, looks perfect for that.
Country boy Dan discussing the definition of a moon, always a joy.
Giant Bomb, I love you guys! Great quick look, thank you!
Dan's Ace Ventura dream caught me off guard and made me fucking howl with laughter. Holy shit.
Goddamn, that's some narrow-ass FOV.
The game will quickly become boring imo. The only thing that will stick with players are the beautiful vistas and the design as a whole.
Came for the space exploration, stayed for the room full of grown-ups scratching their heads over whether or not a chicken is a mammal.
this game came out right as my school was starting
"Chickens are mammals, and they lay eggs." -Dan Ryckert 8/8/16
How does Dan not know what a chicken is, but then instantly figures out that numbers puzzle? What a savant.
I love the fact that alot of the GB community has yet to realize Dan is a MASSIVE troll,,, oops
Dan and Vinny bouncing off one another is amazing.
No Man's Sky needs Necromorphs.
interesting fact: platypus are one of the the only 5 mammal species that lay eggs, part of the group monotremes
So, Dan really didn't know the moon has gravity? That is truly astounding.
The day I find out Dan is 1 year younger, knows nothing of science, and yet makes way more money then me..... sigh.
Can i..(as in me) roleplay as starlord from guardens of the galaxy! Also once you get a pet does it come with you everywhere or just that one planet?
just when i think dan cant reach a new level of "what the fuck you're not that dumb Dan" , he transcends beyond the imaginable lol
"Moon has gravity?!" What a great QL.
9:57 What does god need with a starship?
do not i repeat do not buy ship, you can actually find crashed ship, its rare, but you can, and you will save millions of units that way.
This looks like it would get pretty boring after a couple of hours.
Hahaha I love how Dan is basically the anti-Austin.
"Are chicken mammals?"
"Does moon have gravity?"
Dudes, seriously.
Guys, Guys, Guys. Everything with mass has gravity. The more mass, the more gravity.
It's why I'm attracted to ya mamma.
That FOV, that aliasing.... holy crap
What is the FOV on this?
1:33:55 Oh, I see, Dan is the Rain Man. It all makes sense now.
But... is it Frog Fractions 2 or not?
That's what makes up the center.... of a Tootsie Pop
yo jesus, you mind signing my bible?
Okay, Giant Bomb. I'm ready. I'm here to be let down. Bring it mother truckers!
You go through a portal, nothing can come back.. oh except your reality show broadcast.
i wanna have physics classes with Vinny as a teacher
I don't care much for this game but I just fucking love listening to these guys.
There is nothing to explain. It is an exact ripoff of the mobile game "Out There" with slightly better graphics.
Let's play... quick look... same/same ?
Quick Looks existed even before RUclips was around, you know.
At some point Dan and Vinny are just pitching Adult Swim shows about time travel. Haha.
i knew this would flop lol
It literally just came out
I have heard nothing but good things about this game from people who have played it.
It just released
You know fuck all kid
***** Can you explain to me this obsession with people wanting a game to be bad. Just so they can call it shit.
"Chickens are mammals"
Dan Ryckert 2016
This literally just looks like Oregon Trail in space. But with less dysentery.
2:30 no, you're a good video gamer
I don't watch much stuff from Giant Bomb, but did this guy seriously just ask if a chicken was a fucking mammal?
Are the graphics this bad on PC? Looks like it was made in 2004.
looks pretty much like i was expecting, i'm cool with this. the only thing that irks me is the draw distance/pop-in, and the FOV, but hopefully there's some kind of work around for that with the PC version.
No Man's Sky is like the VR of video games. Everyone who has played it has very good impressions of it. Everyone who hasn't is highly skeptical.
Do people generally find you to be a sketchy person, in person too?
OK
Who was the deep voiced tidal explanation guy? I only know Jeff at GB and I quite liked this dude's candor.
I learn so much from Dan
Been waiting for this
I wish Alex had played the Quick look from the beginning.
