Hearing Brad share his memories of one of the greatest games of all time(FF6) exactly on the music intro, was the best part of the video. Man I love nostalgia.
I would say that the three I can remember off the top of my head would be: 1. Super Mario All Star + Super Mario World 2. The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition 3. The Orange Box There are probably even more, but those are the ones I have enjoyed the most.
these games give me flashbacks to a time when i had no bills to pay and my body was still growing and not dying. i can feel my body dying now. oh my god. my body is dying. somebody do something. we are all dying. sweet jesus someone do something. WE ARE ALL DYING! SOMEONE HELP ME IM DYING.
You are thinking too negative; you are maturing and growing. You shouldn't worry too much about your age and instead should worry about how you spend your time here on planet Earth.
You mean it goes with blues/greys? Well, I guess the purple grid does go with those colours, yes, and, of course, it also goes with yellows/oranges/browns/golds (which are seen a lot, too). And it goes with blacks and whites, which are also seen a bit. Then again, it is Nintendo. They are masters of colour.
I'm not sure I understand the hate for the way DKC looks, I mean yeah pixel drawn sprites tend to be easier on the eyes and it's fine to prefer them but I think the CG look in Donkey Kong still looks good, rough in places but the style is still there to me.
that star fox 2 game looks sick, shame it didnt come out when the snes was still out back in the day,i think it would've been a sick addition to the consoles history
It still annoys me when people hate on Super Punch Out just because it isn't the NES game. It's meant to be in the tradition of the arcade Punch Out games. It's not supposed to be little mac. And it's awesome. In other unpopular opinions, Yoshi's Island is phenomenal. It's better than Super Mario World. If I get an SNES classic that will be the reason.
Yeah, most of these games look infinitely better with the CRT display. I'm guessing they never tried it, did they? (Edit: oh good they at least did with DKC! I skipped over that.) I'm the exact same as Jeff when it comes to these collections and I generally never mess with the CRT mode, but once you try it, you realize it's a goddamn must for LOTS of these -- especially games with pre-rendered graphics like Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario RPG. It smooths them out dramatically and they look just like they used to. I played the entirety of SMRPG in 4:3 and now I'm really sad about that :( So this is just some advice to people who may have only recently picked up an SNES Classic. Don't make the same mistake as me.
Pretty sure Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a completely different game to the Genesis Ghouls 'n Ghosts despite looking/playing very similarly, much like Sparkster.
I think the PAL version has Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3, but I can't remember. This must be the American version. You should check Wiki or Nintendo.
Just got myself a real SNES and Donkey Kong Country 1 boxed for about the same price as this. In theory, this deal is much better, but the fact is 21 games is not good enough given the fact the SNES has nearly 2,000 games and over 400 for PAL Uk alone! It's better to just buy real SNES games for 10-20 each over a few years. This didn't even have the first Street Fighter 2 with my childhood bonus stages! I got that, too (World Warrior, complete boxed). Also, love hardcopy/boxes/artwork! You should buy a real SNES and Donkey Kong Country 2. It will cost about the same as this SNES Classic. Good luck! :)
@@TheClassicWorld Or you could just hack it (so easy to do, there's guides all over youtube), and get any and every game you want....I hacked mine and got over 160 games so far.
So, in Final Fantasy 6 there are two named characters at the start: Wedge, and Vicks --- Vicks is PROBABLY supposed to be Biggs, as the duo of Biggs & Wedge recurs throughout the Final Fantasy series. This is an odd translation error.
Yeah, Ted Woolsey is notorious for not staying as true to the source material as other translators. He also translated Chrono Trigger, and the Ozzie, Flea, and Slash characters were originally named Vinega (vinegar), Mayonne (mayonnaise), and Soiso (soy sauce), respectively.
tt128556 It's an intentional tribute, Vick's was definitely a mistranslation. There have been "Biggs and Wedge" NPCs in a lot of the Final Fantasy games, and Dissidia even references the translation to "Vicks" directly.
dang that sound emulation is rough imho. you can REALLY hear it on studio monitors. i wonder why they couldn't have just used the old sound chips, they still exist. OPL soundblaster chips still exist too! (early dos pc stuff). look fun overall though but probably not for me. thanks for the vid
The SNES uses a custom sound chip from Sony made specifically for the SNES, so it's not commoditized like the Yamaha OPL synths you brought up. It would be expensive for Nintendo to get Sony to make a new run of those chips.
ehafh I have no clue what you're bitching about. The snes classic sounds very comparable to what the OG version sounded like. I guess it's true, people must find something to complain about.
Man... I really want to play Super Mario RPG. I never played it but I loved Thousand Year Door so I would love to check out the OG Mario RPG. Also, I really hope Switch VC includes GameCube games. I really want to play Chibi-Robo and a lot of other really quirky titles from that console.
I just beat it for the first time. Second time I've played through it, as I originally bought it on the Wii VC but only made it about halfway through the game back then. It's pretty dang cool, but nowhere near as good as TTYD or the original Paper Mario, for that matter.
Looks good still but the face cgi/silicon graphics look doesn't hold up like pixels/hand drawn. Game still plays nicely which is what counts. I see where the duders come from and it's just their opinion, wouldn't get too beat up over it.
ruclips.net/video/JZMroQOtS_U/видео.html This is the piano guy Ben mentioned. He actually was in a car accident a while ago, but he seems to recover well.
SNES is the best system hands down. I mean, including super famicom games, what they could do late in the systems life was amazing. Take for example Megaman & Bass vs Megaman 8. Same graphics and runs perfect and MM&Bass is a far better game than Megaman8.
Seeing Starfox and Starfox 2 (which I've never played, having started on 64) made me realize that Nintendo just keeps making the same exact starfox game over and over.
Game is slippery as hell, the whole game feels like an ice level. I played thru 1 and 2 back when they came out but my interest was fueled by hype back then, nowadays I find the games hard to enjoy.
I would play a ton of Mario RPG and every now and then I would boot it and my save file would be gone. I never beat the game cause my cartridge was defective.
It's a nice looking collectible, but Nintendo trying to sell an emulator in a plastic box with built-in games that they've already been overcharging people for on virtual console is just sad. The original game developers don't get royalties, guys. Just buy a USB SNES controller, download an emulator, and link it to your tv.
A Roadie it's interesting that you say that. In DKC3, in Wrinkly Kong's Save Cave, sometimes she'd be playing an N64 and a version of the Peach's Castle theme could be heard in the background. I dunno if I agree with you that it was inspired by DKC, but there is that little connection between that song and that series.
25:00 - I love their reactions when Jeff skips the Final Fantasy VI intro.

No Super Mario All-Stars is a bummer, SMAS+SMW might be the most essential and best game bundle ever created on physical format
I would say that the three I can remember off the top of my head would be:
1. Super Mario All Star + Super Mario World
2. The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition
3. The Orange Box
There are probably even more, but those are the ones I have enjoyed the most.

Its looks to me like the grid background color is the complimentary color of the average color on the screen. It's a nice little touch.
You mean it goes with blues/greys? Well, I guess the purple grid does go with those colours, yes, and, of course, it also goes with yellows/oranges/browns/golds (which are seen a lot, too). I plan on buying one of these in the near future, along with a NES and Genesis mini.
Yoshi is a sweetheart it breaks my heart when y'all make fun of him

Super Mario RPG is one of the best games of all time and I want you all to know that in this here comment section.
Its the best Mario game
Derek Stone
So is Earthbound so shut the fuck up
Could not agree more.
That's almost illegal what you did there, closing megaman x just as the spark mandrill theme starts playing!
Question: Can you play an EU SNES Classic Mini on a US TV?
Does anyone know what 'old man playing the Mario theme' clip Ben in talking about?
I'm not sure I understand the hate for the way DKC looks, I mean yeah pixel drawn sprites tend to be easier on the eyes and it's fine to prefer them but I think the CG look in Donkey Kong still looks good, rough in places but the style is still there to me.

that star fox 2 game looks sick, shame it didnt come out when the snes was still out back in the day,i think it would've been a sick addition to the consoles history
Donkey Kong Country is a great game with a banging soundtrack. I've never disagreed more with Jeff about something.
ff3 and earthbound but no chrono trigger is baffling to me
MakeWarHarmlesser - that's probably due to some weird fucked up contract stuff with Square Enix and other platforms.
It's only because Earthbound and FF3 are better.

Got mines, anyone figure out if adding roms with hakchi2 messes up the overlay?
From what I gather hackchi uses snes9x not the official nintendo emulator. So super mario world is a bit laggy
Does the sound cut out a bunch for anyone else?
Its a shame they didnt include an enhanced version of Starfox 2, that had a better framerate

The crt filter on the Nes mini is poor but it is the only way to play on the Snes mini in my view. Donkey Kong looks horrid without crt.
