I won a Saturn in an essay writing contest in middle school. I loved the janky games and the feeling of discovery that came with finding new titles. Because the system shit the bed I was able to buy lots of games after the stores stopped supporting the Saturn so I had a big library. This makes me want to try and dig up my old stuff. Thanks guys.

Man virtua fighter 1 to virtua fighter 2 is just a great leap visually. It really shows what people could do with tech if given experience and time to understand the system.
Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally, Daytona 500, Panzer D, Mech Warrior 2, are all great memories. I may have only had a demo for some of those games but you never forget your first, console.
Virtua Racing blew my tiny little mind way back in the 90 in the arcade. I put so much money into that game. I'd love to see an HD remake on the PS4, but retain the untextured polygonal look at 4K 60fps.
i am 28 years old. Grew up durring the saturn / 64 generation with only a psone. Had the library backed up is why lol. But i got into saturn collecting a year and a half ago. Just for the street fighter games/series originally. Now i got panzer dragoon saga, radiant silvergun, in the middle of ordering battle garegga as we speak. Just the whole 9 with saturn. What a slept on amazing system. My new second favorite console of all time! Best retro controller period of all time! This simply was a system way ahead of its time and under appreciated. Its so disappointing but thank god this was catered to globally besides US.

I used to leap at the chance to watch every Giant Bomb video, but they have failed to replace any of the cast that left with anyone I want to listen to. Increased Rorie time hasn't helped. Always abrasive, never funny, Debbie Downer status.

I heard this was too hard to program for. Something to do with the hardware architecture. Morever, the critical mistake was that there was no proper AAA Sonic game for the console.
It's....really not true that the Saturn wasn't designed for 3D. I've read extensively about the development of the Saturn and the 32X and I've never heard anyone from Sega ever say this. I've only ever seen this as speculation because the system has 2 CPUs and 2 video display processors, which is a weird setup, leading people to think that the extra chips were added in to give the system stronger 3D capabilities. This doesn't make sense as something to do at all and on top of that, Sega used a similar design in the 32X, which was in development before the PS1 was announced. In fact, they intended the 32X to act as a sort of introduction to programming with multiple CPUs so devs would be more comfortable with the Saturn when it launched. Besides all this, Sega hoping 2D would be the future is totally inane. Sega based all of its business decisions around its arcade division and they were one of the early pushers of polygonal games in the arcades. Why would Sega hope to extend the life of the Genesis with the 32X, which was primarily designed for 3D, and then return to 2D with the Saturn? The Saturn was, from inception, intended to push polygons. Unfortunately Sega chose an architecture that was difficult to work with and most devs didn't have the time or skill to take advantage of it. The beta Shenmue footage is a good example of what a team who knew the system could do.
Saturn was the first console i installed a mod chip on. If I recall it just plugged into the disc drive ribbon cable and you just had to solder power wires

Every console since the 16bit generation was sold at a loss. Only the Neo Geo made money from the actual hardware. The 32X could have been Sega's most successful console I think. There were alot of quality developers at that point who supported Sega and if it was always supported alongside the Saturn I think it would have grown a library over a 5-7 year cycle which could have been the best of all time... Maybe if it got Sega Rally or Daytona it would have taken off. The Saturn is such a sad pathetic mess of substandard 3d. Sega needed to develop and AAA Mickey Mouse 3d/3.5d platform game which wowed with it's sound and graphics. But they gave the flagship mascot to shitty Traveler's Tales and gave you Bug and crappy Panzer Dragoon and crappy Nights into Dreams.

Port Begging(a NeoGaf trait) and two, SEGA doesn't own the Virtual Racing IP anymore and nobody is interested in picking it up.
There's a Switch version that's almost exactly what you're describing, minus the 4K part.

Nights does not require the 3d controller. Its just better with it.
