I was in that crowd, at 17. The summer between high school and college. Our backs were to that tv screen in the center of the crowd (I didn’t even know there was a monitor the other side ... we just thought it was lights and rigging or whatever). Tom was definitely a highlight on a day full of highlights.
You witnessed one of the greatest shows ever! If not the greatest!
That is soo cool, must have been a unforgetable event
Lucky man
Best performance at JFK?
@@jamesrobert680 my favorite was Led Zeppelin. But so many great ones, Petty, Thorogood, Clapton, Cars, Pretenders, Simple Minds, etc.
Words cannot describe how much this man is missed. Sad way to go. Rest in peace Tom
My favorite Tom Petty song, easily.
Me too
just nobody ever cooler than Tom - EVER
They loved playing live, you can feel the joy of every member of the band & see absolutely how much fun they were having❤❤
Who remembers Live Aid? I taped it off the radio, I still have the tape. I was 8 then I’m 44 now. Still love The Heartbreakers.
I was in my first job out of college, they said Phil was gonna do a set at Wembley and then do a set in Philly! I was blown away, great times. Tom is the best!
I taped it on my betamax. And I still have it
I watched it on MTV and recorded it on cassette while they played it on the radio. I was all of 19 years old and wanted nothing more to be in the front row of that audience
Tom Petty had some nice Rickenbacker guitars! He had a good taste for instruments! He was a great player!
Tom Petty didn't age, he just kept getting better.
I was there that day, this brings back many memories. I love Tom Petty & will miss him forever. Seeing this clip makes me think of Roger McGuinn's sunglasses and Gram Parsons' famous Nudie Suit
And that Rickenbacker, too!!
The glasses, the guitar, the voice - thanks Roger McGuinn (who turns 80 today)
I was fortunate enough to see Roger 6 years ago in a very intimate theater & he still gave an incredible performance. A true musical legend!
He always looked so 😎 Cool
Masterpiece! RIP Tom Petty, what a loss.
RIP Tom ❤️🙏🏻 One of the most recognizable voices 🙂
Just watching these videos brings tears to my eyes. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are and were one in a million!❤
No one ever believed that Live Aid would happen and when it did it was phenomenal!
Concerts like this don't happen anymore the world is a different place now
Miss Mr. Petty so much, more than I expected. He is in a better place
Great performance by one of the best bands of all time.R.I.P. TOM
Killer mutton chops! Mike Campbell yo just can’t say enough. He wrote Boys of Summer for Don Henley. That’s how great he is. He would never talk about himself.
Boys of Summer isn’t much to write home about. Almost any Heartbreakers song is better than it.
He actually offered it to Tom first and he passed because he felt it was too synth-heavy. And then we promptly get "Don't Come Around Here No More." So figure that one out. Lol
Mike wrote the music Henley wrote the lyrics
Mike is one hell of a guitar player
@@samwecerinvictus. It’s a brilliant song.
Such a great time for music... I miss Tom Petty... love those guitars and the band... and the horns just blow the roof off of the place... (even though the stadium never really had a roof :) ...
Tom didn’t need the horns but still amazing performance!
The time when everything was simple, mobile phones was not a distraction for social gathering everyone is enjoying the moment being together every second was valued.
Oh gosh, I absolutely love this music. Tom Petty, it goes without saying, is amazing. Mike Campbell's lead guitar is phenomenal.
I remember watching this on TV when I was 11 years old. I had never heard of Tom Petty but I was blown away by his set (Wow! 🤯 Who is this guy!?) I begged my Mom that we go to the record store to find some Tom Petty albums 🙏 And a couple of Days later we went! We ended up buying Tom Petty "Hard Promises" & "Southern Accents". I still own those records... And they're still in VG+ condition 🕵️♂️
I was 21 and had to work till 5pm. I worked in a department store and every chance I got I went to the electronics department to watch it on the TV's : )
Live Aid was one of the Best Concerts of the 80's..
A Concert like this is what we are missing today..
I’ll 2nd that!!
Agreed but it just wouldn't be the same 😔
Couldn’t do it because music today sucks.
@@TJInTheVille there are great current bands. They just are not on radio or Pop
Mike Campbell excellent guitarist
This song saved a life. I saw it. God Bless Tom.
Took me til 2022 to really appreciate his sound. What a talent. Thanks to Sirius XM Tom Petty Station. RIP

Tom was such a great person and musician. He was lovely. 💖
TOM PETTY: true LEGEND.
If you're here watching this you'll love the version that's on RUclips with Tom and the Heartbreakers and Eddie Vedder on vocals.
Thanks -- that was awesome!
Most successful concert in the 80’s. I’m 27 and still single at the time. I have the greatest generation ever ❤❤❤
Iconic songs....never knew what iconic meant, but if it means the music of Tom and his crew defined a generation? I'm not sure about that either. How does anyone define the greatness and genius of their music, that inspires millions every day? I will miss Tom Petty, I wish him peace, and his family and bandbros....thanks for the jams
Such a talented musician. Miss him
Tears of Joy to see Tom Petty LIVE in concert !
Yes!!!!!!! Tom petty was the only celeb I really felt. Long live petty!!!
TomPetty&HIS Band Members Are SO Cool 😎🎸 😄 😆 😀 😍!RIP! TOM!
How Many more songs have Tom Petty and his Friends?
It's the hardest part!
One of the firmest foundations of great & bra e American revolutionary musical heritage ❤
He didn't even have to tell the audience to sing it with him!!😊
Founding member of The Byrds Roger McGuinn glasses and guitar. Original drummer Stan Lynch, background vocals. Second bass guitarist Howie Epstein who replaced the original bass guitarist Ron Blair. Blair returned to the band after Epstein passed away. RIP.
RIP Howie and Tom
It would be so easy. Going back to that
Rest in peace Tom. You are loved and sorely missed.
Only 68,000 views hopefully that goes way up!
Wonderful. And it’s great to see Stan.
Wow listen to those horns!! This man speaks to me with every lyric!! Love ya Tom!

Soon the hardest part is over 8-9 weeks we should be back to life as we know it
@@desperatemohammedantheworl5833 You could do your part by getting vaccinated, as I and many millions of Americans have. But it sounds like maybe you're one of those folks who doesn't "believe" in the virus. Can't help you there. Best of luck to you and your covid vulnerable body.
Probably not going to be over till everyone gets COVID
@@legotitanic150 that's not gonna happen.. Not in my country at least
@@danswang Covid-19 is real, I've had it. It was essentially an afternoon slipping into the what I'd describe as the equivalent of 3 days of the worst flu I've ever had followed by about 2 more days getting better. Like around 99.95% of cases in my age group I didn't die and like around 99% of folk in my age group I didn't require professional medical treatment.
No I'm not getting the vaccine. I see no need. Why would I want a rush developed vaccine which last time I checked no brand of was to any significant degree certified to actually protect you or others from covid-19? Being a human being in reasonable health I'll trust my immune system thanks. After all it worked perfectly fine the first.
Plus there is the simple fact that as I pointed out this nonsense started off as simply "a few weeks to flatten the curve" has turned into 14 month of misery and economic destruction, all over a virus that kills around as many folk as a particularly bad flu season.
I've been saying from the offset the way to deal with this pandemic is to help those who need to (and more importantly want to) shield while letting the rest of us get on with our lives.
Wawww
I was there......
UAUUIUUU
SHOWWW
TOPPP
I told you!
🇧🇷✌🏼🇧🇷❤🇧🇷BRAZIL
The horn section kept drowning out Benmont on keyboards
Üks parimaid Tegijaid ses valdkonnas. 😏🎤🎸👌
no cell phones
That suit tho
Are you with me? Perhaps he was talking to his band members.. haha
Oh my, those horns were definitely not needed in this song.
Once Stan Lynch left it was over
nah it wasnt over
Stan was pushed...but, Mike.....brought them back together...
❤❤
He looks like some weird kind of hippie here.
I like this version, but I prefer Linda Ronstadt's version
ur joking right?
