Junkyard Score Revives my Broken Project Car

- It can be a bummer to have your project car break down on you, but scoring the exact parts you need at the junkyard is always great!
My Acura Integras are usually very reliable. Unfortunately due to a power steering line failure last year, oil leaked into the alternator, causing it to prematurely fail. Luckily that line has been replaced already and this failure did not occur mid winter!
Later, we pay a visit to the RC Drifting track and help set up a scale version of Japans Meihan Course C as well as dialing in my Yokomo YD2S RC Drift chassis.

Just a heads up ,here where I live we have a shop that rebuilds alternators for around 50 bucks and even offer higher amp options for the rebuild ,might be worth looking into

I always pull the alternator from the top. The trick is you unbolt and move the brake master cylinder out of the way slightly. It makes it a 10-20 minute job usually.
I've never tried this method! I'll have to give it a shot!
Sometimes it's a little risky in the rust belt, but here in north Georgia it's pretty safe to do.

You can't get a 1996-1997 Accord EX wagon in 5-spd. Only the LX model. You could get the 94-95 EX in 5-spd though.

You can swap the plugs from obd1 to obd2 it’s just 3 to 4 screws super easy.
In the uk the accord wagon is called a aerodeck and was common to see on the road but rarely see them these days

You should probably fix that fluid leak. It probably fried the diodes. Also keep the pulley and the bolt just in case .
You should of considered making a video about rebuilding said alternator, i think that could of been fun.
they are extremely easy to rebuild. if the bearings sound good replace the brushes and you can usually get quite a bit more mileage out of them

Not sure if it’s different for sedans but you don’t have to pull the alternator out from the bottom. It can be pulled from the top with some finesse

Mike! the b series alternators are interchangeable you just have to wire in the plug for whatever alternator you end up using.

How I diagnose an alternate is by starting the car and unplugging the battery while the car is running, if when you unplug the battery and the car turns off then the alternator is bad, if the car stays on while you unplug the battery then the alternator is working fine

I had power steering oil leak on my car. Oil was dripping to the alternator and everything was okay. When i fixed the oil leak the alternator broke in about 2 days. I bought another alternator from junk car. It was oily too. I put it in the car and it broke in 2 days like that old alternator :D. I think the alternator was addicted to the oil :D :D :D
