Tough day at the office, those front sprocket nuts are always a pain, even on new bikes. I purchased an impact gun just to do the job the second time around.
Thanks. I have little experience of advanced stripdown and your common sense procedures like clutch higher noise level when released and in neutral gear would be useful to myself.
Another great video. No offence meant here but I was howling watching you remove that front sprocket nut, been there done that, the second one I did I was prepped and ready for the hard fight with the grolly bar, but I was lifting the grolly bar while standing on the rear brake pedal, I was not expecting it to give up the fight as fast as it did, so fast, in fact, the grolly bar smacked me in the mouth. I'll say I expected you to remove the front mudguard just to stop it from getting damaged, but it looks like you got lucky, I expected the engine to smack it.
Nice video as always! Are you honing the cylinders? Might as well of you're cracking the engine open. New rings with old pistons, or get a big bore kit. I got a Wiseco 923cc kit, installed it myself. One mistake I made was that I used fully synthetic oil to break in the engine... One is supposed to use mineral oil for motorbikes/wet clutch. Nevertheless, it works great, no issues. But I did a hard break in! I didn't even let her idle, just started up, rode around the block, varying the revs all the time, then ripped as much as humanly possible on public roads. It works amazing! Burns NO oil! I'm actually amazed that I managed to accomplish this with no mechanical background. I love working on the 9R! I know the bike in and out! I've got a couple of dirtbikes as well, which I find horrible to work on, not like the Kawa...
I’ll reuse the original pistons assuming that they are in good condition. Naturally I’ll be replacing the rings and will hone the cylinders as it aids with the bedding in procedure. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
@@HalfdeadRider Yeah, maybe... «Everybody» says that mineral oil has to be used for break in. They might be correct, but my ride-it-like-I-stole-it approach with full synthetic oil worked great👍 The bore and hone was done by a pro motorcycle mechanic, using a Sunnen hone to finish the job.
@@nitramh24 there are specialist run in oils I think, they are thinner oil hence the run in needing to be gentile. It's to allow piston rings etc to run in without too much stress. If you want the best fully synthetic oil formulated for bikes, get Motul 7100. After doing an oil change in mine using it, the engine runs up to five degrees Celsius cooler depending on ambient temps. The other benefit of fully synthetic oil is that it does not lose it's viscosity at high temps like other oils, perfect for performance engines.
them front sprocket nuts are known to be a bitch, mine was the other way, only finger tight, great vids so far, looking forward to the engine strip down !!
Another good video. yep be good to see Engine strip. The frame is it being painted, powered coated or Cerakoted. as with swing arm and maybe forks too ?.
Hi Kev, apologies for not messaging on a relevant vid but….. I’ve bought myself a vtech 2004 after coming from 2000 pre vetch. Long story short I went to pick up a Haynes from a bloke off marketplace and we ended up chatting for a couple of hours as he’s had vtechs for years and exposed a few of the weak points on them and mentioned the harness and rec etc and basically told me that you make them and sell them? He’s done his and said it was total piece of mind and many peeps sing your praises for them as you can tell the quality. He sent me a Facebook link but I’m not on Facebook so wondering if you for 1:do make and sell them And 2: how the heck do I get one? Many thanks mate and all the best Liam

I really enjoy being in your company. I like the no bullshit approach. Thanks, Kev - I'm a fan!
A bit late tonight was in the back garden drinking wine and singing 80's tunes 😂
Very enjoyable video Kev - you're making good progress!

My back would have gone pop lifting that lump off the floor, that's a job for the missus to do, lol.

@@KevsShed Looking forward to the process! You'll end up with a stellar bike when you're done!
Fully synthetic is best, mineral oil is the worst as it has impurities, semi synthetic is a good in-between.

I bought 2000 zx6r and brought it home and here's a surprise. The fuel pump does not work, maybe I can find some help on your channel?

I’m getting the frame and swingarm powder coated, along with the fork lowers and a few other bits too. Should look sweet once sorted 👌🏻
Hi Kev,, is this process similar for zx12r?
Unsure mate, I have never worked on a ZX12R, I did this on a ZX10R a few years ago before I had this channel and it was pretty similar.
