As a hair dresser here since 1976, I truly endorse everything Margaret just stated. For my own silver hair I use the Generic Shimmer Lights I purchase at Sally, have done so for years. Keeps my hair shiny, healthy and no yellow. Before I blow it out I put a little "Lotta Body" sprayed in (hair is fine and wavy/curly) then a spritz of Fanciful Silver Lining. Hair spray I cannot do without as my hair will fly all around and collapse. The compliments come left and right, amazing how people will stop me in a store and say, "great hair!" Thanks for educating people Margaret!.

I use a purple shampoo, rinse it out, add purple conditioner, and leave that on until I've finished my shower (shave legs, arms, pumice my feet, exfoliate)and that's enough time for it to deposit some color. My hair is completely silver/white, so I have to be careful not to leave on too long unless I want lavender hair! I then use a heat protectant, blow it dry, add a couple of drops of 100% argon oil from Trader Joe's and, if I need to, a spray wax to piece it out. I do buy all my products at my salon. Did my hairdressing apprenticeship almost 60 years ago!

@@dixiesmom4633 Yes - it's an Australian brand - Kevin Murphy, and it's called "Touchable". I love it - adds a little grip for piecing out, but doesn't build up or discolor your hair. Not cheap - but lasts a long time, and really works!

Thank you for this one, my son was explaining the ph issue with hair products to my dear daughter in law recently.I allowed my kids to experiment with name brand vs . Off-brand products as they were growing up. They don’t fall for packaging hype. I am a retired Quality Assurance Professional and will be the first to tell you ,many name brand products and store brand products are exactly the same except the package. They are made in the same place a company will do a run of its own product ,then switch packaging and run a batch of the same stuff in a different bottle. The clothing & food many factories are the same. They sell some of their products to other companies at a higher price & package it in the other brand it forces the other company to have the same products at a much higher mark up. A company will sew 5000 pairs of name brand jeans, then maybe a 1000 at the end have different tags sew in & on them. Later at a fashion show for the Industry the exact same Jeans will be rated much higher for just having the band name on it. Side by side on identical twins some folks will say the name brand jeans are so much nicer just because of a tag & yes of course the higher price tag. Ok , not talking about knock off that a completely different story. They are much cheaper versions made elsewhere and use cheaper materials to make a product that is actually a fake of the original. But buyer beware. Many good purple shampoos out there …

Margaret, thank you so much. And I was wondering why my hair was so flat. Constantly looking for products that wouldn’t weigh my hair down. When it’s humid out my hair hangs limp, so I’ll lay off the conditioner for a while and check the ph on my shampoo. I’m silver white. Took me literally years to get it ( I’m 71)! Margaret, I go to the beauty shop once a week (mainly to get my hair washed as it has become hard if not impossible for me to do myself) and that is enough for me as my hair is sooooo dry it is all white. Hairspray is about the only hair product I purchase regularly. I do roll my hair with heat rollers if I am going out anywhere but that’s it. I am a big hair lover (80’s) and still tease the top. I enjoyed the info you gave us and am wondering if I should buy a special 4-5 PH shampoo and take to the shop with me.

I used to have hair like a horse but age n cancer n radiation and now I have more fine hair n less of it. Would love to hear suggestions and yes brands. I'm brand lame. Many times if they are not listed it’s because they are “off”. I look them up online and if I still can’t find it, I call their customer service or contact number. Often they will say it is proprietary info (not) which I consider another red flag.

#2. Do you need to wait till your "Hear" that is the correct pronunciation. Lol. Has a certain percentage gray before trying a purple shampoo. I'm about 25% @ 61 yrs old. I've covered it with the great Naturtint all natural products for years. I have psoriasis n I haven't been to the hairdresser for a color job in 4 decades. It burnt my scalp.

A product that has a “good”Ph usually has it on the box, but you can sometimes find the info online. When your grays start to bother you, that’s a good time to try a purple shampoo. Different for everyone.
