In my experience, time you spent procrastinating feels even more stressful than actually doing the work without accomplishing anything, and it takes time away from actually enjoying yourself and the moment

Whenever I find peace doing so little, someone always interrupts my peace by saying, "Why don't you try to find a better job," or "You should start thinking about your future" and whenever I tell them I feel great, I don't need to think too much about it somehow they feel offended.

    We can only start to think this way because we are becoming a society of abundance. It wasn't always like this. Hunger and deprivation, scarcity and insecurity, etc... were the rule up until even one or two generations ago. Everyone needed to work very hard just to survive. But work has become a little like food: we as a species evolved to overeat and gorge on food whenever we could find it, because you never knew where your next meal would come from. And this was an approach that helped us survive. But in this recently evolving society of abundance, it is leading to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc... We have to consciously and deliberately learn not to overdo it before it makes us sick. Work is the same.

    It starts with controlling attention (which is what meditation is - a bunch of techniques for controlling attention). Once you have even a little attention you become aware. And one of the fist things you notice is we all spend so much time thinking about the past or planning the furture. We miss where the real experence of life is and that is.... the present moment. Be like the cat or dog. Live in the now.

    • @zile8869
      @zile8869 16 дней назад

      @@michaelcarey299 The definition of greatness is "having a large amount of importance or significance".
      To be great, means your life actually matters. Cause if it wasn't for you, things would be drastically different! This means your actions have more meaning than it otherwise would and your life has greater purpose.

      @@zile8869 Ok. I'm reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius a Roman emperor and famous stoic so I guess he can be described as great. I admire your ambition but not sure it is worth it if you are unhappy your whole life...Are you making any progress towards greatness?

    I feel like the cat watching the humans 😂 But also watching life around me. Sometimes I don’t get the ‘stuff’ that people go and look for to do out of fear of being bored. What do you mean ‘bored’? Life is happening right under your nose but you’re not aware.. you’re distracted.. you are missing the miracle because you have this notion that just being present and observing is ‘doing nothing’ and that’s ’boring’. You’re overstimulated.. the whole human creation has become an overstimulated creation numbing us for the nuances and subtle wonders of life itself. Life isn’t a DO-thing. Life is happening, whether you do or not..
