In this video, we explore the experience of time, aging, and nostalgia. Why do we often look back on and long for our past, even for when times weren't great? How can this phenomenon negatively affect our lives, and what can it teach us about how to live better?

"Youth is the most precious thing in life, it is too bad it has to be wasted on young folks" is such a powerful quote. I think we should embrace and accept that there was and there will be some disappointments in our lives and just try to be the best versions of ourselves. On our deathbeds ( if we are lucky enough to have ones) we will have to choose between being thankful to our lives or having a last day of existential dread.

    • @Ziziwai
      @Ziziwai Год назад +37

I think eventually, you’ll experience both thankfulness and existential dread when living the tail-end of your life. There’s so much to think about, yet there’s no real reason to think about it so deeply when your life is close to its end.
I imagine the closing in of death gives way to the most intense feelings you’d ever have in your life.

Sometimes there really aren’t proper words of solace, there isn’t really the perfect way to offer words of comfort, or a way to find something that makes the pain any better. People will really say the same things over and over, I think people try and acknowledge the way we feel with grief, but it doesn’t really alleviate grieving.
There’s not any warmth that can break the cold when we lose someone we really love. It’s like we don’t just lose them, we lose a piece of ourselves. I’m not sure if we ever really get it back, maybe it just feels that way. However, that piece of them still exists within us as long as we carry that memory of them … It’s kinda like in this video, PoW describes the “picture” and how we look at it through the scope of time; we cherish the moments for however long they last, even when the reality is that they’re ever so fleeting. Nonetheless, we still capture it. We still live for the moments. We still remember.
Possibly, that’s the hardest part … Remembering. Either way, “what is grief if not love persevering?” (Laura Donney). It’s both a gift and curse, how we love despite knowing time is limited, perhaps that’s why we remember in the first place. That we understand not the truth to life, but hopefully we will have the strength to carry on when we do … That those pieces, even when we think they’re broken, help carry us on to fully and completely put together a complete picture, and maybe that’s when we will have the proper solace, or clarity, or at least … I hope so.
Anyway, sorry for the long rant. This is all just to say keep on keeping on Jen. I love you, even if I know not who you are ❤

I’m signing up for a Marathon for the summer of 2024, and I’ve decided that the title of this video will be on my “bib” during the event. It holds so much meaning to me and I hope at least one other person during the event can relate to it when they read it.

Regret is pointless and a waste of time, the decisions you make, good or bad, make you the person you are and give you the knowledge and skill to pass on your wisdom to others. We all remember those certain individuals in life who told us something when we were younger and discarded what they said, only to later in life recall what they said and we say to ourselves they were correct.
Never have regeret, its a fools errand.

This is a very sad way to view life. Time is an illusion, I’m 25 now, some years fly by, others seemly last forever! As time progresses and memories fade it creates space for new memories and also allows old wounds to heal. Imagine the horror of vividly remembering every moment of your life. You can remain wrapped up in the past or you can shed the old and continue reinventing yourself equipped with the lessons you’ve gained. Such as a Phoenix, we too must burn in order to be reborn. The impact your life can have can’t be understated. Don’t waste it with this mindset. Wandering through life as if nothing matters and it’s all slipping through your fingers. Some days you may feel that way but I argue if anything in life is an illusion, it is that. you’re more important than you’ll ever know.

Ah, the channel with the constant existential crises.
I have spoken about some of these things elsewhere. I might as well do it here more directly.
The last shutter snap of my life has already happened long ago. I am nothing more than a corpse awaiting its death.
I never did anything with my life. I always ran away from every challenge or risk. Every time I ever took responsibility for anything, it was always a disaster or became a disaster, and nothing came out right. I was, am, and always be a coward and will die a cowardly death.
I have never grown up. I realize there is a part of me that never wanted to.
I could never understand nor enforce any structure or discipline in life, because I am also extremely stubborn and obstinate. Sarcastically, I love the quote popping up all over the place that is: "You either live with the pain of discipline or the pain of regret". Perhaps they do not realize that due to genetics or other factors, for some, there is no option. In a real strict family, the person will have no regrets because they were born in fire and never knew a day without discipline. Or, like me, the other way around, and has no ability nor mindset to even try any discipline.
I cannot let go of anything.
I also do not forget (at least events but not necessarily good at remembering things for tests when I was in school ages ago).
And that has also led my mind to constantly torture itself as to what I should and should not have done.
No, I do not think most people have a talent. Most people, in truth, are boring, insipid, and have no scientific talent or creative genius. They just merely exist. At best, people have children, hoping one day someone in the family line will become a "great person". All of this is just another con game to say, "follow your passion, find your true talent!" That is laughable.
I am north of 40. I never had a career, just odd jobs. I lost any nerve to pursue anything more, knowing I did not have the intelligence, will, or mindset/attitude for it. I have never married. Only had one girlfriend my entire life, and that was in desperation. Never asked someone out. And it is way too late to try now, especially to learn things I should have seen, learned, and understood decades ago. I do not have any children, thank God. I want my family line to end.
    For yes ...
I wish I was never born.
Life would be somewhat better if a lot of us were not born and pollute humanity and our planet.
I wish Death to finally take me so that at least the elements and molecules needed to create me were returned to their proper place. I have stolen them long enough.
The only thing I can say or do is two things. First, is to say to the rest of the world: "You are so lucky. You are rational and strong. You made it through various times. You created some place for yourself. You should be rewarded." And second, that I and others like me are merely instruments, examples of what not to do in life, to teach and shield your children from.
When I think and say that, I tend to think of the scene in Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" between the Ghost of Christmas Present and Scrooge. It is when the Ghost parts his robe showing two waifish and emaciated children, Ignorance and Want, with the word "Doom" written on their brows. The idea is repeated with the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come at Scrooge's grave. In both cases, the effect is the same to which I am screaming out loud to the rest of the world, "Don't become me! Do anything else but not this! Heed my warning and do not go down this same path. Leave now and save yourselves!"
    An extremely self-loathing creature.
For yes, the only thing I will allow myself to be called is a creature. Something created, forced into being. But I am not and was not a human being nor a person. A person means to relate to another, which I was incapable of doing.
So, this creature salutes you and says "good luck", since you were always better than me. It was always to be this way.

Thanks for sharing your experience. To err is to be a human. Even a criminal is a human. We are a species granted the curse/blessing of self analysis. Your capacity to comprehend & self critique already shows that you are self aware beyond any ordinary being. Its a part of show. Try to find a solace in being human in all its shame & glory.
Your not alone with these thoughts & life.

Death is the most beautiful and honorable gift that we can ever receive. It is the reason why we came here, and it is the only thing that will allow our lives to mean anything. Were you afraid to be born? Maybe. Are you glad that it happened? I hope so. Well, death will be a very similar transition. It is natural to be apprehensive about changing times and new experiences, but don't fear. You will be exactly when, where, and what you are meant to be. Don't judge yourself for it... embrace it in the moment, for all things are temporary, and most things will be remembered as beautiful experiences, that deserve to be valued and even cherished! Stay present, and fearlessly stay true to yourself and your pursuit of joy! Then, when you go to the next series of moments, you'll look back, with no regrets, and know you did it right!
