Just a small tip that I did that’s been helpful for me is I zip tied the alligator clip cord and touch probe cord together about 6 inches down from the probe so whenever I grab the touch probe the alligator clip is coming with it and I can’t forget to clip it before probing. Lol

I just wanted to say thank you for your videos because of you I picked the shapeoko xl and it is a great machine!

Jason, I believe Ben said that the light should go out in his tutorial and then you said it should go out I about fell out of my seat...and then you corrected yourself and said no it should turn red. I was glad for that. I got a project of 60 small serving platters for a friend and this thing is going too make life a little easier for me. Thanks for the great video and keep up good work.

Hi Jason, I had flash backs of the dam contortions needed to install and hold that limit switch! One thing I did was to move the control board outside the enclosure. It helped when I installed my JTech Laser (from Texas), its cleaner, and when you need to trouble shoot something and they ask you what light on the board is flashing you can see them. Look forward to your next adventure, cheers from Canada.

I got mine with my XXL. Ordered it through Matter Hackers.
This thing makes setting up the machine a breeze. Worth the $130.

Great job. Gotta have a touch probe no matter which machine you have. Thanks for posting a clear and honest update procedure.

I used the same screw to fasten one end of the crocodile clip, but for some reason there was no continuity between the board and the screw. Fortunately I tested this before actually running the machine so I avoided embarrassing crashes. The solution was to just fasten the the crocodile clip to the board mounts (as the holes of the PCB seems to be connected to the ground plane as it should).

I have seen you use vcarve to design but what software do you use to actually send to the cnc to cut? FYI.. Amazing content

Are there any software license issues with V Carve Pro if I have a copy of the software on 2 computers and move files with a thumb drive?

I'm getting a "Not Found" error every time I try to download the GRBL Update from the Carbide 3D site (link you provided above). All links on Google take me to the same site and still the error persists. Has this been relocated elsewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Man finding this touch probe reminds me of a different probe from recent news. It's turning up zero, impossible to find.
Shapeoko needs to allow the use of other cheaper ones with Carbide Motion.

Well I think you can use others. I'm not too sure how they work, but I know other people use aftermarket stuff. Hell for that matter a lot of people suggested to me to just use foil and alligator clips. If you get on the shapeoko / nomad unnoficial users group on facebook it seems like there is always someone selling one or willing to part wit theirs for a decent price.

for the love of god DON'T LISTEN TO THIS GUY when it comes to grounding the alligator clip. don't put it on that bolt holding your belt in place. it's going to cause you headaches trying to retighten it to the right specification. just run that ground into the control box and use the bolt on the top left stand off.
