Considering also how many of the human lifes in Halo are somewhat expendable... cortana survived through it all. ever heard of the "survivor complex?" how humans fare when others die and they survive a tragical event? John has survived many parts of the spartan program, where friends died in augmentations, Samuel died to save him in the first covenant incursion, many marines die every day in front of him, when repelling covenant attacks, many perished in the composer, many on the hands of the flood... and Cortana accompanied him through all of that... she was indeed even more than a machine, more than a person... she was a meaning: That there is hope
Say what you will about 343 Industries' Halo games...but this scene right here was quite possibly the greatest interaction we've ever gotten between these two and I believe it to be peak video game writing/acting.
Such an emotionally strong scene we are experiencing here. Cortana saving her beloved John once for the last time. But this ultimate sacrifice allowed her to have her greatest wish come true: to finally be able to touch and feel the man who was her sword and shield all along. And on the other side we have a spartqn, John 117 a conditioned man who has been forbidden and suppressed of all emotion in order to become a lethal weapon. And despite the many tortures and psychological manipulations, even the most inhuman of humans is Breaking down, the. Now unable to hold back what he was never supposed to feel again, his emotions surfacing, facing the impending loss of the dearest being he's ever known. The impossible "love" story between an AI and a dehumanized human
The horrors the Chief has faced. Countless enemies, losing friends, disobeying direct orders, the flood. A man who can go through anything and come out on top. And he couldn’t look her in the eyes when they were saying goodbye.

The disbelief, the anger the fear, the desperation as he tries to ‘convince’ her only to realize the inmevitable.
Dude I just came back to watch this and I don’t remember chief showing this much emotion. I bout teared up man I mean hell it even sounds like he’s about to tear up in some parts. Top tier acting and writing man.
