I think this cutscene is single handedly the best thing that 343 has made. The way it shows that no one realistically wants to fuck with Chief, and kinda just stand there.
Many people in the UNSC military idolize him at that point. For instance, Chief's the one who saved Lasky when he was still a cadet and the academy's planet was attacked by the Covenant some decades prior (Forward Unto Dawn movie events), so Lasky sort of knew him since he was a greenhorn.
To an extent, taking Cortana would have increased the chances of the didact winning by a significant margin. It’s more of a lose/lose situation for the UNSC.
@GoTi4No Mostly, people just don't understand military justice. It has it's own law and a good soldier would know the law, which outlines exactly what kind of order he or she isn't required to carry out. From that point, it's up to their trial to determine if they were correct or not. Sadly, in reality, an order to pull out of a fight even when you believe you shouldn't, is an order you'd be required to follow under any circumstances. If you refused to withdraw, you better save a village or something, because only being a hero will save you at that point. I've never played this game but I can only assume the Master Chief accomplishes something that overshadows his violation in this instance.

@@LWLProductions He doesn't outrank him within the standard rank structure. The highest ranking Master Chief Petty Officer/Sergeant Major will always be out ranked by the lowest 2nd Lieutenant/Ensign/Cadet. That being said, high ranking non-commisioned officers have high-ranking commissioned officers within their inner circle to call on and fix junior and even less senior commissioned officers. In this case, E-9 Master Chief could easily call in on OF-10 Fleet Admiral Hood to bitch slap O-6 Captain Del Río and back him up. The last "however," in this whole shit show is that since Spartans operate under the direction of ONI, any interference with their work can be punishable under their version of the UCMJ.
Why does everyone act like he's so old he is physically the same age as in Halo 1 in this scene Even if he wasn't frozen for 4 years that is still only 4 years
Highcom was not happy after this lol. HIGHCOM is the security council and Lord Hood is part of it. This office is the highest authority in Humanity which is the UNSC ( UNITED NATIONS SPACE COMMAND ) they control the entire UNSC. One of those council members include Serin Osman who was a spartan 2 washout that rejected the augmentation she was digging in the garbage for food at one point in her life, and now who the one who is the boss of ONI, the one who controls ONI. John use to tease her when they were children. Another security council member is Lord Hood who has soo much respect for the Master Chief even offering him position as Admiral which Master Chief declined. The Chief himself without any rank , his raw contribution to mankind is unparalleled which is Palmer says he does what he wants. So Master Chief could have had the status as Admiral and joining the office that controls all of the entire UNSC which is HIGHCOM , a unparalleled hero of mankind considering all his contributions from the start of the Spartan Program all the way to Reach, and Halos 1-4 and the post events in the comics like defeating the Didact , and the ultimate soldier mankind has ever seen. Do not blame Locke and fireteam osiris for fighting chief, don't even blame captain Lasky. In fact in Halo 4 spartan ops Lasky risked his entire position for telling fireteam Majestic to save Catherine Halsey, because Serin Osman the bitch who has insane authority and also a grudge against Halsey ordered the hit, when they came back and were debriefed, Serin Osman asked Sarah Palmer if Lasky had interferred and Sarah defended Lasky by saying he ordered fireteam Majestic as a contingency which is a believable lie. Sarah cares for tom and I use to think she was an arrogant bitch but now I see her point of view and shes not all that bad. The real enemy is Serin Osman , even seeing her profile picture insinuates she has extreme lust for power with that nasty power hungry grin. Just to give people a clear understanding HIGHCOM can remove or erase anyone in the UNSC. They were the ones who removed Captain Del Rio for this act here in this video ^^^ and appointed Lasky as the new Captain of the UNSC INFINITY , then palmer got promoted from Lieutenant to Commander in the UNSC. HIGHCOM ordered Osiris to bring Master Chief home, they won't kill Master Chief because hes too important and it can cause an uproar destabilization if that were to happen. That can cause all remaining Spartan ll's & lV's to go rouge. The order was just to bring him home back to the UNSC not kill him. Hes done waay too much for mankind and HIGHCOM knows this which is why they removed Del Rio in the place for leaving Master Chief behind. When the incident in New Phoenix happened this only gave Master Chief even more credibility because it all could've been prevented has Del Rio listened to Chief here and finish the Didact here. Master Chief knew if they attacked with full force here the Didact would've been finished.

I just want to know why he thought Palmer, a Spartan 4, could "arrest" Master Chief, a Spartan 2. Aside from the fact the S2's where the best of the Spartans just look at the fucking size difference.
Because his whole life, the mere concept of authority has allowed him to browbeat and snarl his way through anyone he wanted to. The moment that a piece of paper that says he's in charge no longer matters to the people around him, he flips out. A man like that, their entire world is bureaucracy and badges. No faith in humanity; only cares for control.
Those of you who don’t know the training it takes to make a spartan 2 disobeying an order like that is nearly impossible. The S2s were trained and drilled so shit was automatic for them. For John go willingly stand up and tell a commanding officer No takes a lot of will
Chief doesn’t even need to follow a single order del rio gives him, since he is still officially part of the forward unto dawn del rio has zero command of him
Chief has seniority so he can't really get in trouble anyways because he has done 30+ years of service not to mention save the human race multiple times
Yeah but then it delves into semantics. Most Navy regulations (barring extraordinary circumstances like an Admiral or Fleet Admiral being on board), the captain (or Commanding Officer, i.e a junior officer such as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander in the absence of the Captain) of a ship has final say in all matters regarding it due to de facto seniority. @@FireChicken747

This has always been a great cutscene. One of my favorites in Halo, in general really. And seeing Cortana vulnerable and plead for her life does something to me. She's typically sarcastic, very calculated, a complete smart ass (literally and figuratively), and won't bow to anyone, not even the likes of Gravemind himself. It was very concerning to see her so vulnerable like this (in a good way, of course). It just really drove home the stakes for her. She's dying, rapidly by the minute at this point of the game, and the fact that they threatened to end her _right here_ told me "Yeah...she's not gonna survive this game" (I know she's alive in Halo 5, but I still don't think that's really _her_ tbh).
Ikr but the good side of cortana died and left the rampant side of her cuz she did tell cheif that she was gonna try to separate her rampant side to continue of what was left of her idk how to explain this properly but im sure u get it... right?
The beauty of this scene is, if you know anything about Master Chief then you know just exactly how hard it would have been for him to refuse an order from his CO Ironically though, Del Rio could have prevented Halo 5 from ever happening
Not exactly. According to Laskey, Del Rio was relieved of duty for leaving Chief on Requium, which is ironic because Laskey was the person who allowed Chief to leave the ship, against Del Rio's orders, but in spite of that Laskey got promoted to Captain for some reason. Something tells me Laskey told the UNSC a different story than what actually happened.
@@liamdalemon1525 If you thnk about it, by giving him the Pelican, Lasky more like helped/made sure Chief have everything he needs to finish his mission...true, he let him go, and left there, but I guess that was obvious for everyone, that he's not able to stop him just like that...and technically - after Chief left - Del Rio left him there, not Lasky.
As "master chief petty officer of the navy" john 117 is responsible for fleet administration an is part of highcom staff, that basically makes him Lord Hood personal NCO. Even if Del Rio technically outranks chief due to him being an enlist nobody could simply arrest chief and easily get away with it, which is why Del Rio get fired later on. As long as Lord Hood, who deeply respects and trusts chief, doesn't officially order it nobody, not even ONI, can truly touch chief...
Master Chief isnt apart of highcom but is very respected by them and is a very nessesary asset to them. If anything Highcom wouldnt let anything happen to chief willingly due to how effective hes proven and is in essence a real world super hero to humanity in this. Oni did attempt to get rid of the chief after Halo 4 however that plan backfired and the ONI opertives in charge of framing him for a massacre at a embassy were quickly disposed of and chief was put back as the savior of humanity as the last surviving Spartan II and as the person who pretty much defeated the covenant by himself
Gotta respect Palmer for not taking in the Chief, for all the hate she gets, Palmer still has some good moments. Shame she wasn’t used more in Halo 5, because she was pretty badass in Spartan Ops.
Everyone needs a snickers in this scene. Del Rio because he is being a prick. Chief cause he is disobeying orders. Cortana cause she would kill everyone, and Palmer because she becomes a bitch in Spartan Ops.

I see a few comments saying Del Rio could’ve prevented halo 5 if cortana was decommissioned but she’s the only reason chief was able to defeat the didact. So if she had been decommissioned, the didact would’ve been able to use to composer on all of earth
But the point still stands lol. The only caveat being that humanity is more or less destroyed and the didact is dancing around the universe spreading the mantle of responsibility.
No Del Rio could have prevented halo 5 by agreeing with chief and putting full effort into getting the infinity combat ready. Cortana said that the didact could have easily been completly defeated with the use of the infinity and wiped that whole forrunner force. Plus chief wouldnt have been left behind and cortana wouldnt have gone batshit crazy. Del Rio easily could have prevented all of that
Im not willing to jeapordize my ship for the hallucinations of an aging Spartan and his malfunctioning A.I. "With all due respect, sir, I know what I saw."
Plus, the entire crew was willing to risk their lives. Even if they knew they were going to DIE, the infinity crew would have still have rather die than let the Didact take the composer. And the UNSC has the ADVANTAGE. All it took was some repairs or 2 and the infinity would have jumped back in the fight. All Del Rio had to do was take down the didact, and in shutdown, Cortana says that would have been ridiculously easy for the infinity to do. If anything, chief is right.
My favourite bit is Chief promptly just starts ignoring Del Rio and speaks to his second in command, understanding that Lasky is competent, and that somebody in the command structure needed the instructions. Man just full on tells del Rio to talk to his hand
Trying to detain Master Chief is like trying to detain an 8000 pound Bull. If I were there and I was in that conversation. I would be 100% on Chief's side.

So I'm guessing that Del Rio didn't hear about the Chiefs promotion to Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy? Meaning that he's the highest ranked person in the UNSC short of maybe Lord Hood. I mean I know Chief wouldn't know that, but someone in the room could of said something.
***** No, at the end of Halo 3 there is a thing that says that Chief was posthumously given the rank "Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy" not just Master Chief Petty Officer. which according to Halo lore is the highest rank in the UNSC, so John totally outranks this dumbass.
ClassicGamer102 yeah with that rank he’s entitled to advise generals and a captain thinks to ignore what he says idiot he may technically be higher ranking but come on an Lt knows not to mess with a first sergeant you should know better
ClassicGamer102 It is not the highest “rank” of the UNSC. It is the highest “enlisted rank” of the UNSC. He still answers to officers, but acts more of an advisor in that manner.
You dont have any idea what a master chief is. It's the highest level of ENLISTED rank. Del Rio is an officer, even the Lowest level officer outranks a master chief
I dont care what you think about halo 4, bad or good. Personally I love it. I am a diehard halo fan was playing since I was swaddled in a blanket at age ½. There is a picture of dad playing halo combat evolved and me on his lap as a baby. It is literally been there since I can remember. Halo 4 is amazing because of the deep lore implications. Who cares if 343 made it look wierd-ish. It is still halo in my opinion. The chief has been in stasis, wakes up to a covenant fleet and a forerunner super planet. Suddenly the planet eats the chief and the covenant fleet. And we meet the promethians. These badies are ancient human who were geneticly modified and fused with ai to help fight the flood. With these new enemies, the chief eventually finds the diadact, a warmongering forerunner looking for vengeance. The chief then has to stop the diadact. After a fewissions MC meets the librarian who informs him of the promethians and the diadact as well as the composer, a micro scale halo device that turns humans into promethian knights. The chief then races to defeat the diadact and the composer device. Now over the while journey, Cortana has been dying of AI cancer called rampancy. When the chief and Cortana reach the diadact Cortana splits into the many rampant parts she made, and foces the diadact to his knees, the chief then blows up a frigging nuke while on the composer to hopefully end it all. Cotana saves the chief, but she is lost in the process . The story of halo 4 is deep and it still feels like halo. It sets up a new threat in the promethians and sets the chief up to find a new cortana. It follows halo lore and yet people think it as a crappy halo. What made it bad, I couldn't tell ya.

Yeah Lasky was on his side from the beginning and Palmer didn’t want to catch those hands lol
Locke tried to square up against chief, and got absolutely annihilated.
That awkward moment where Del Rio turns out to be right about Cortana.
The whole red color is kind of a hint
There's a saying about broken clocks.
To an extent, taking Cortana would have increased the chances of the didact winning by a significant margin. It’s more of a lose/lose situation for the UNSC.

I mean, when THE spartan 2 decides he's going to disobey you, frankly you should review the order you just gave, cause spartans don't disobey orders.
This is why management so often lets things slide, so that the good workers can actually get the job done without getting hindered by too many protocols
@@LWLProductions really I never played this game but I have played the others
@@LWLProductions assuming his title "master chief" refers to master chief petty officer"
It would indicate he's the highest level of an enlisted officer as far as I know. As an NCO he couldn't go higher without going to an officer academy, which is what Laskey went to I think.
Plus, he's clearly a boots on the ground type, so I doubt he would ever want to be sat down in a position that's mostly desk work. Considering he's literally built different 😆

Even if he wasn't frozen for 4 years that is still only 4 years
2:00 Is a very smart thing to say when someone refuses to stay and fight

Also it's Master f****** Chief! Basically the god of Spartan 2s
Because his whole life, the mere concept of authority has allowed him to browbeat and snarl his way through anyone he wanted to. Del Rio - "By the hallucinations of an aging spartan"

And isn’t master chief a rank too?
Yeah but then it delves into semantics. Most Navy regulations (barring extraordinary circumstances like an Admiral or Fleet Admiral being on board), the captain (or Commanding Officer, i.e a junior officer such as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander in the absence of the Captain) of a ship has final say in all matters regarding it due to de facto seniority. @@FireChicken747

It was very concerning to see her so vulnerable like this (in a good way, of course). It just really drove home the stakes for her.

No Del Rio could have prevented halo 5 by agreeing with chief and putting full effort into getting the infinity combat ready.
