He takes it like a man, and props to him. He doesn't let his ego speak for himself. The man is in control of his emotionals when he gets mocked by the likes of micha
richards. As for the fans... it's almost as people either never seen him play or they somehow relate the fact that because he flopped as a manager, he is also a flop player. I think Rashford as well. You don’t go from a 30 goal season to being a bad player next season. And you don’t do it on your own. Often players has fluctuations in their outputs: Giggs goes 13 goals to 1 early on. Scholes had a run 14, 9, 2 in the Premier League. And these guys were in a team overflowing in goal-scorers. They were a team, not just loading it all up on the shoulders of one bloke.

If he was carried by Beckham then how come he made his England debut over a year before Beckham and was at Euro96 which Beckham wasn't and Beckham's last major tournament with England was no later than G.Neville's and Beckham left ManUtd in 2003 G.Neville would have a further 8 years at ManUtd 6 of them with Cristiano who certainly didn't carry Neville as Gary had to do all the defensive work now and Neville put in more crosses for Cristiano to tap in than Cristiano put in for his attackers when he was a winger.
Neville made loads of key assists. So did his Brother to be honest but Gary did it for England as well he gave Shearer an easy headed chance to score vs Scotland in Euro96, gave Gerrard the same in Euro2004. He assisted AndyCole's winner in 99 to win the PL. Even 4 years earlier in 1994/95 last day he assisted ManUtd's equaliser vs WestHam which would've turned the game around and won ManUtd the title if Cole & others had finished good chances to score the winner. He also assisted Sheringham's equaliser vs Arsenal in 97/98 the only other title he lost in the first 9 seasons in the PL when ManUtd were without Keane & Irwin at Highbury Nov97 2-0 down got it back to 2-2 from that assist and only lost the game & with it the title because Scholes was denied a stonewall pen at 2-2.
But GaryNeville also won the hardest format of the ChampionsLeague there has ever been.

"Just Failed.. haha" despite the fact you won all there was to win? Despite the fact year on year you performed consistently at a high level? Cmon Gary... You were a DAMN good player who I watched for years and years. Stop downplaying how good you actually were because of clowns like Carragher and Richards....

Richards was so good at City they replaced him and sent him packing first choice they got. He retired because nobody wanted him while Nevile only left Sir Alex Fergusons United team because age and injuries caught up with him.

Neville was brilliant. I'm not a United fan but always had huge respect for him. He was a dogged performer. Laser focused, hard tackling, a willing runner and a reliable team player.
Probably the most underrated player in his position of his generation.
Cara making Neville the butt of his jokes is ridiculous and Micah is smoking his own hype to think he was a better player.

This video is an over-correction. I grew up watching him and he wasn't rated then either. Yes, he's had a better career than Micah Richards and has been more consistent, but to compare him to Zambrotta or Zanetti is not accurate - he couldn't play in midfield like they could, he wasn't technically brilliant, just sound with the basics and rarely injured. Reliable. In the top 3 for right-back careers in PL. Not in the top 3 for right-back ability though.

I’ve had that conversation with so many friends and work colleagues, who is your all time best premier league 11. The team changes a lot based on personal opinions and some club biases, the midfield is usually the most debatable area of the pitch with Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Keane and Viera etc. The one common denominator though is always Gary Neville at RB. Whether they’re Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal fans it’s always Gary Neville without really having to think too hard about it. He was the most consistent RB I’ve ever seen, it’s a shame that the younger generation don’t seem to realise how good he was, and also people like Micah Richards can be so delusional to think he was a better player.

With Sir Alex, if Neville was not good enough then he would have been a squad player like Wes Brown or be sold. Nevile could defend, cross, pass and was a professional player that gave his heart for the club on and off the pitch.

Great video Sam - totally agree. He essentially started the overlapping attacking full back trait in English football. Was also a phenomenal crosser, particularly when heading towards the byline. Crosses were never too high or too low - always (mostly) perfect. Criminally underrated but he only has himself to blame for playing himself down.

I'll never not cringe at ex-players like Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher downplaying Neville's abilities and career. He's not exactly done himself any favours with the way he talks about his career, but Richards and Carragher are severely lacking in self awareness. Neither of them were great players.

He was a bit of a Djokovic of Football, he didn't do anything flashy or remarkable, but he absolutely nailed all the basics and had no weaknesses, that is what made him a great player, and is also what makes him overlooked and forgotten vs his flashier contemporaries. He never scored an overhead, or from half way, the women gravitated to the supermodel he played next to etc, but Mr consistent he was, thorn in every team's side.

Am a Liverpool fan but i generally like to see things objectively cause i care about good football first , people tend to 1 - follow the narrative of a player more than what actually happens or happened when they play/played and 2 - people get stuck on the flashy things in the wrong way , take Suarez and Zlatan for example they were flashy but they were that all the time diffrence is most players that people think were better than someone like Neville had only a few glimpses of that flashyness and then an empty unimportant void of mediocre play where as Neville was by default a better than average player playing week in week out better than average without the doing or needing to do anything more cause what he already did by default worked like charm , even Suarez and Zlatan that i mentioned were for the most part of their careers in non-perfect teams and sometimes they had to pull out the extra flashy stuff to compansate for their teams overall lacking play as attackers , Neville didnt need to do that yes but also no one else that ever played football would also need to do that in that United team , now show me which players could do what was actually needed in that squad and that could do it just aswell as Neville , spoiler there arent a lot of names and arguably they could be more liabilities than assets in this case .

Bloody good vid, needed to be said. Many of today's younger fans never saw him play, and many of the older ones can't see past their own bias and tribalism (ABU) to admit he was a great player. As a United fan of similar age to Gary, I followed his career closely for many years, and while I played right wing for much of my own playing career, it was when I finally got my chance at right back that I felt most comfortable on the field - and I think it had a lot to do with having watched Gary play. He remains one of my all-time favourites, and in my books, one of the all-time greats!

i mean yes neville was an above average, functional right back whose uber-professionalism and loyalty to utd kept him at the top of the game, surrounded by superstars as he was, im not having a go in any way, his aggression and spirit was something to behold and every team needs that water carrier type player, especially back then...but thats it, he wasnt world class, one look through our 'golden generations' international efforts can tell you that, he was ruthlessly exploited many times at tournaments....still a great player, and even better pundit imo
also whats this guy on about with the trent 'unwillingness to track back' comment? yes he's caught up the field a lot but thats because klopp almost plays the lad as a winger, one thing that i thought was accepted by now is that there are no passengers in klopp teams, trent being caught upfield is so obviously by design that i thought it went without saying...keep up lad

I always actually question if people who actually criticise players from even 20 to 30 years ago realise their is actually little difference in terms of overall ability but they get more interested in a but of stats and numbers that weren't even being recorded then and too much emphasis is being put on having them rather than the end result. Before you even said he had more assists that all the players you listed combined I would have guessed that too since he was one of the most accurate crossers in the league after Beckham left. You also don't consistently play that many games over nearly two decades for the top team if you aren't better than others that could have been brought in. But as you said it's because he has said that he wasn't good himself that others have kind of went along with it without even remembering how good he was or never seen him play.

I have supported the greatest football team for over fifty years and Gary is hands down the best right back we have had in that time. I`m used to as all United fans are, the unhinged hatred and pure jealousy towards our glorious club and their attempts to rewrite history and constantly put us down. An idiot in his twenties told me the other day that Roy Keane was over rated and only looked good because of his team mates ! I was going to kick off and go full Scottish on him but instead I shook my head and quietly told him if you believe that you are delusional and know nothing about the great game and should never speak again. I hated Stevie G. As all United fans do. That's our job but I respected him as a player because second to being a Red Devil I`m a football fan. People that don`t respect are not worth listening to or talking to.
