- Welcome back to Stick to Football, brought to you by SkyBet. On this week’s special episode we are delighted to be joined by former Manchester United player and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Joined by former team-mates Gary Neville and Roy Keane alongside Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher and Jill Scott, the hosts start the show tucking into a special Norwegian stew dish, and it doesn’t take long for Roy to remind Ole of his miss against Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 Champions League semi-finals.
Having last spent time as a manager at Manchester United, Ole reveals what really went on at the club during his tenure, including how he nearly signed Declan Rice, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham and what it was like working with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The man who made the 1999 Treble win possible also talks about what his winning goal against Bayern Munich and gives insight into the dressing room, telling never told before stories of what hobby Gary took up as a player and which guest Ole nearly had a fight with in the tunnel.
Finally we end on a min-quiz between Ole and Roy centred around the infamous Champions League semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen; who will have bragging rights between the former United duo?

The massive uptick in passion when a United guest is on, from Roy; is so fascinating. Jamie barely got a word in sideways. He still burns for that club. Love it
Man, as a lifelong Liverpool fan I have to say the amount of respect I now have for Ole is massive.
Ole clearly cared a lot about the United job. He seemed really emotional talking about the final moments of his management there.
That's without a shadow of a doubt
Listening to Ole speak is exactly why I was sad it didn’t work out. 19/20 and 20/21 was the first time I really enjoyed watching United play post Sir Alex
Neville reading the texts from Keane and Ole had me in hysterics. The first 15 minutes were amazing! What an episode. What a group of people. My favourite show hands down. THANK YOU ❤❤❤
Keane reacting to Ole's miss like its happening in real time is hilarious
Ole comes across as an honest and humble bloke. The United hierarchy during his reign pretty much set him up for failure, yet he exited with complete dignity.
Tons of respect and love to Ole.
Well said well said
The heirarchy was bad, but it sounds like the players also weren't up for it. Imagine Sir Alex being sacked before 92 because players didn't believe in him.
@@Mubashir_AK agree completely. As Roy and Gary have said before, a lot of pretenders in the previous United squads.
Indeed, unlike cristiano, Ole exited with his dignity untarnished.
AND he came on in 1999 and scored that awesome winning goal in the massive Nou Camp. That takes mental strength and balls!! ;)
As a Liverpool fan all I can say is - I love Solksjaer. I imagine United fans feel the same way about him as we do about Kuyt. Top bloke - and I love his Norwegian/Mancunian accent.
Comparing Solskjaer to Kuyt😂😂😂
@fds3415 no real difference, to be honest.
Imagine a true club legend telling you "buy this player, he is the one" for 20 mill and Utd not listening to him, great example of where the clubs been since Sir Alex left. Roy what a legend, drives through the Norwegian snow for 9 hours to check on a mate, captain on and off the pitch even today.
Yeah, and then the next manager says "buy him" and they’re willing to overpay four times for a certain Brazilian right winger. That just sums up this club these days.

Fun fact: At 1:26 Gary asks “why is it that Norwegian stew is the same as scouse?”. Norwegian stew, or “Lapskaus” as we call it, is a traditional Norwegian dish, and alongside porridge, that’s what the vikings usually ate. The vikings often travelled to the UK to plunder, and more specifically, they travelled a lot to Liverpool since it’s close to the sea, and the vikings would travel with their ships. They brought porridge, and more importantly, they brought lapskaus. Lapskaus would later be shortened to “skaus” and then scouse, which is also the reason why people from Liverpool are called scousers!😄
PS: I absolutely adore Solskjær, he was my childhood hero, as I am a Norwegian and a die-hard United fan!
Interesting 😊
Sjømannskirken introduced lapskaus to Liverpool when an influx of Norwegian fisherman moved there
Northumbria or whatever was hit first by the Vikings
Roy Keane, still a superb captain. Visit Ole when he was sacked. Heart of gold.

Got the feeling they didn’t like each other much
This is a great interview and it sounds like Ole's learned a lot in retrospect. It also explains how United managed to get such a long unbeaten away run going but somehow kept stumbling at home. I wouldn't object to having him back under Sir Jim. It showed that he knew how to get his team to play to their strengths but allowed the pressure of Old Trafford to get him to play "the United way" to get the better of his judgment. Counter attacking teams can be just as exciting to watch as well as the United teams that he played in.
At last, someone brave enough to admit he wants him back at United. I want OGS back at United now. I'm 100% sure United would do much better
Every episode is absolutely brilliant, but this was the best of the lot. Ole was a "fan-tas-tique" guest, and as a United fan, it reminded me how much I wanted him to succeed as manager. For me, he's been the best in the post-Sir Alex period.
As always, the camaraderie is amazing between this lot; it feels like your sitting in the pub, listening to your mates chatting! I think Wrighty's bromance with Roy was challenged today with Ole next to him!
Ole will always be a legend. Came in and helped the club at a tough time. Stabilised the backroom and got the players believing. Never complained about the damn Yanks and always protected the players. Had to handle some big egos but he was always humble.
The most humble bit was when he said "I'm gonna be a success at this club with of without these players".
Finishing second with united is as big as winning a trophy in any other league
Let players do what they wanted, turn up late for training, criticising club in interviews, never dropping players for poor performances.
Yeah done well😂😂
I like the way he humbly accepted players not being captains or doing pressers. Humbly sacked. So humble.
A legend of a bloke, but a legend in general? How the standards have fallen 😂 he might be a borderline legend for what he did in the '99 final alone, but he's nowhere close to being a legend when it comes to his managerial stint with us

He's my favorite United manager in the post-Fergie era. Like he said, the inconsistency was appaling. But at least when we won, we hit a jackpot several times. And you can always see he's a humble, honest, and a good person. He was sacked too soon and the one replaced him wasn't even better than him.

Just to put it in a perspective, career goal per games ratio of some of the strikers considered best ever in PL:
Dennis Bergkamp: 0.36
Wayne Rooney: 0.41
Thierry Henry: 0.45
Gary Lineker: 0.49
Alan Shearer: 0.51
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?
0.53
Good to see ole again. Such an awesome and genuine guy. An absolute legend along with keane and........ Schmeichel 🤣🤣sorry garry I couldn't help myself. I'd love to see Andy Cole round the table... Another proper legend
I remember when GNev was getting hounded because he wasn't directly calling for Ole's sacking at Utd. He was critical and unbiased but still loyal to his mate
I'm loyal to my current manager il never turn on him didn't turn on ole Eirther
One of the best episodes so far. Not a Man United fan, but I have so much more respect for Ole right now. What a mindset he had.
Absolute beautiful gentleman Ole! Legend geezer!!! ❤
That was a very enjoyable hour and a half.
Absolutely loved this. Thanks so much!
I’m 10 minutes into the interview segment and I have to admit, it is INSANELY good so far. As a Liverpool fan it’s good to see his honesty about 5-0 and the other games near to his departure.
Yeah, they need to get Klopp on the show...if anyone can get the truth about his leaving, these folks can.
Really?? He talks about possession being 50-50 up until half-time. The stats say the whole game was 62-38 for Liverpool and as you were 4-0 up at half-time I find what he says hard to believe. He's deluded.
The last interview before he left had me in tears .. seeing him again has me emotional . I love everything about this man . Hopefully see you soon doing what you love Ole .. truly a legend
This is one of the best yet. What a legend Ole is.
This is AMAZING. This is so much fun and i wish i would be there to see and hear legends talking, as friends. This is GOLD
OLE IS A LEGEND. Could’ve turned man united around if he was allowed to. One of the very best he is, what a man👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I'd love to see him back as manager! United legend
Ole please come back.
I'd have him back now.
@@DS-tj1vh 100% agreed. Any day of the week. With Ole’s go-get’em attitude he’d have turned this miserable season around.
Literally by far my favourite video released and my favourite podcast. The people are so down to earth and they seem so comfortable to just talk about everything. The behind the scenes are always such a treat, nice of Ole to ask how Phil was doing, then getting grilled afterwards for the miss 😂😂
Without a doubt ole is a top manager, this interview has cemented that for me. Took over at one of the hardest times in the clubs history and achieved 2nd in the most competitive league in the world. Not bad if you ask me, not bad at all
Yo Big Props to the Chef for giving his team a shout-out while acknowledging the compliment on their food.
That's a selfless Leader Right there❤️
Bless your soul💯
