@@anisbara4531yes. Punk confirmed it on the Ariel Helwani podcast. He and Page had went over a script of what they were going to say and then Hangman went off script. That’s why he said he wasn’t gonna embarrass him on Sunday but today because Punk was gonna look weak not having any comebacks because he wasn’t prepared for the shit Adam was gonna say
The look on Punk's face when he asks why Page is taking this personally, is very telling. He seems genuinely surprised that Page is acting the way he is
Page knew his reign of terror as the worst champion in AEW history was coming to an end and couldn't accept he was also a fake cowboy with a one dimensional horse shoe gimmick shoved up his skinny indy a$$
After the Ariel interview, I actually feel sorry for Punk, having this dropped at his feet on live TV. What an absolute pro, for not only handling Adam Page, but dominating him. THAT is a champion.
I actually dig punks response, to be thrown under the bus like that and to think of something with a bit of coherency within a drop of a hat is why he’s so good on the mic.
It's like he went from confusion to professionalism. He had to be thinking "why are you acting like this" then had to get into the mode of "ok we have business to do, let me try to get back to telling a coherent story.."
Listening to Page it felt like seeds were being planted for a Punk heel turn/nobody knows the real Punk. Watching back it definitely feels more real than that
“I told you what I was going to do to you, I said I was going to destroy you. I said I was going to annihilate you”-ADAM PAGE. he didn’t give punk very much to work with. In fact, I think punk was very nice here considering what it seems like happened, which is that after weeks of Tony Kahn gushing about how great Punk has been for business, the kids from Reseda got hurt feelings and got in Page’s ear. Masturbatory bret hart matches sounds like something they would say. They wanted him out because he took the attention off of the boys and put it on to the men.
He also tried to give Hangman his props even though he got blindsided by him, I don't blame Punk for burying this company because they're really children.

It’s very interesting watching this after the mma hour interview. You can see punk slowly realize what is happening. I’ve always been 50/50 about punk, eventhough I’m from Chicago myself, but this has pushed me to be a complete fan. What a boss having to think on his feet like that. I can’t even imagine the pressure. It’s interesting cause I remember watching this live and felt like it didn’t feel right, that something was definitely off the rails with it only to find out that that’s exactly what was going on. Also, Al Snow’s comments about why this was such a disservice and a betrayal of trust in a business that demands it really set an interesting tone too with it all. It’s almost like punk is searching to see if he can truly trust he will do the job still. What a pulled back curtain moment honestly and a part of pro wrestling history. I had no idea that’s what I was watching live. Makes you think how many more moments there are like this that we never will know about
Such a great comment and I agree. I was just thinking what a pro Punk is here to actually cut a great promo from Page's dogshit shoot promo. Punk made that interesting for the fans. Page was heated and just wanted to get his point across which didn't make any goddamn sense 😂 Also, I'm pretty sure Page wasn't supposed to give punk a right hook. Dude was all over the place.
This is the single biggest promo in recent history. This is the promo that led us to Brawl Out. This is where AEW began to lose its luster. Right here. This moment.
@@ChoClateMilk2 No this is where Clique behavior prevailed because Hangman believed Punk got Colt taken off TV, and wanted to be the cool kid and not say anything that him and Punk went over, and Punk had to improvise on the spot because he was so confused as to why Hangman was taking their match so personally, but sure, Elite were right the whole time lol

@@ChoClateMilk2 Okay but again, stuff you go over vs just going out there and changing the complete point of the promo are two different things. Punk literally had to come up with something cuz Hangman was making no sense
He knew what he was talking about, it’s just that in kayfabe he needed the audience to know a reason why he was mad so that it made sense. Punk and heyman talked several times that shoot promos only work if ur tying it back to the storyline. When it doesn’t tie back, that’s when u get the expression “going to business for yourself” That’s what hangman was doing here.
Yeah because Hangman wasn't man enough to actually talk to Punk like an adult backstage and chose to come out and scream and yell in riddles in front of the world. Punk realized what Hangmans problem was and couldn't believe what a little coward bitch he was being lmao.
Bc hangman went into business for himself bc he knew the elite weren’t as over or as good of wrestlers as the likes of punk danielson and MJF. Hangman had a worse title reign than moxleys interim reign. He was cool with FTR who the bucks hate, he wrestles with psychology unlike omega, he was the draw not them, so the elite and Jericho spread lies to meltzer.
Update: One Year Later and nothing has been the same since this promo aired, it changed everything about AEW. If they ever make a Dark Side of the Ring episode about the "Fall Of AEW" this would be the start of the end moment.
It really doe, from Punk's face and his sort of confused and uncomfortabable posture after hangman talks about workers rights, you can tell he felt some type of way, and was waiting for his receipt, which he gave him
It also didn't help Punk broke his foot a week after he beat Page at Double or Nothing, diving into the stands. If that didn't happen, Punk likely has another great summer like he did in 2011. Instead, that kinda killed his momentum and he ended up dwelling on Page's stupid comments in this segment.

It’s so interesting to watch this with context now, knowing this was not planned. CM Punk looks so much better coming out of this now. CM Punk is trying to be so respectful in this promo, Hangman is the one going crazy, saying he has no respect for Punk, just bitching about him live on tv, this was so unprofessional, blindsiding Punk with this, can’t really blame Punk after this. Hilarious that Hangman claims his promo was going to destroy Punk, when in reality it destroyed AEW
All of us, lol. I can see the moment Punk was caught off guard when he says to Hangman, I don't know why your taking this so personally, Hangman was going off right at he start of the promo
I’m digging the whole "Punk is actually the villain here, but the fans just don't see it yet" narrative. Saw a tweet last night that punk wearing black and Hangman wearing white was no coincidence. Crowd is split right now, as it should be, but regardless of where the title lands come Sunday, I don't think it will be split for long. Punk will show his true colors and Hangman will look even more like the biggest grassroots babyface in the company. I think even if Punk wins it's only so that you can add prestige to the belt AND later on make Page the only 2x champion. The next few months should be some damn good TV!
Page should never hold the belt again until he ups his game. Terrible promo skills and charisma, very boring champion. A glorified indy wrestler. Nothing about him suggests a larger than life champion. Chalk and cheese here vs Punk in all facets of pro wrestling skills
Hangman Page will be the man remembered for destroying the biggest period in the history of AEW. They’d never been bigger before and they’ll never be bigger than this again.
Even when Page went totally off script and punk had to think on the fly, he still had some great lines in that promo. Like “this house that you built… It was constructed with lumber from trees that I chopped down”
The fact that Punk is asking Hangman to shake his hands, something that MJF, the biggest heel in AEW wanted Punk to do, and the fact that he is playing mind games with Hangman by making him angry, planning for him to be punched by Hangman only to get into Hangman's head. Also the fact that recently, he has been using the "Am I the good guy?" part a bit, I have a feeling Punk is turning heel at DoN. They are all reference to his likely heel turn. Both MJF and Kingston said Punk is always acting like a good guy when in reality he's the opposite and now Hangman's also saying Punk has been doing "the opposite" and has no respect for him, Punk might snap and turn heel.
Bullshit. I still smell a work. You look at Punk's entire body of work since he arrived in AEW. He was having fun. Dude straight up said he "fell back in love" with pro wrestling. Fast forward to the "Media scrum". I have zero doubts Punk was setting up future matches between MJF, Hangman and maybe even Omega by talking shit. The Colt Cabana stuff was addressed because he was tired of being vilified for it, but everything else came off like typical Punk promo schtick. Then I believe Punk finally got the official word regarding his arm injury and being out 7-8 months. So what now? Couldn't do the "interim" shit again. Had to come up with something different. Hence the locker room "brawl" with the ELITE. Hear me out. It'll make sense. You see, I also believe Kenny came back too early as well and still needed more time to heal. They were able to finish their PPV matches but knew backstage they were going to need significantly more time off. So TK "strips" them of the belts and has matches that will drum up interest and ratings while giving his stars more time to heal. As far as the brawl goes, I already dug up several links that proves that there were ZERO police reports or interactions following the brawl (contrary to what was reported). The only headscratcher I have is why the Bucks were included. Probably to sell the work? Maybe they've been a little banged up too? I personally will always be in Punk's corner. I'm starting to thing Hangman is lashing out at phantoms at this point, because he's clearly seeing something that isn't even there.
Hangman is like Captain America here. I'm not comparing them, but we can guess why Hangman is doing what he is doing. 1. He's afraid. CM Punk is like the only guy in AEW who can take over his place. Before CM Punk debuted, it was only Hangman in everyone's mouth. 2. Hangman is actually a bad guy, who's only realizing that now. Think about it, he didn't like his friends getting all the success, so he left the group. Then found some drifting lovable losers who helped him get to his success, and as soon as he became the world champ, he left them too. Hangman is a loner, and when he dislikes being lonely, he wants the world to come to him and caress him, and when he dislikes that, he leaves. He does what he likes, regardless whether he hurts anyone or not. But god forbid someone hurts him. 3. Hangman's identity is that belt. Think about it. His identity used to be his friends, it was The Elite. Without that he was nothing, but he wanted to be something. So he left the group, and failed, and his identity became a beer bottle. The Elite symbolized his incapability. The Beer 🍺 symbolized his failures. The AEW world title is the only thing that symbolized his success, that made him feel good about himself. He doesn't like the idea of losing that as well, making him bitter and cold. I can't wait to see Hangman lose the belt because he is so much fun without it. I can't wait to see him mad and angry, both at fans and everyone else. I can't wait to see Dark Order say the truth to his face, that Hangman's biggest enemy is Hangman himself and he can't do anything about it. He is just that. That's his character. And that's a fucking interesting character. I also can't wait to see Punk show the world his real self. I can't wait for Omega to come back and it's Omega vs Punk. I can't wait to see the crowd finally realizing that Hangman was right all along, as bad as he was, Punk was worse. Hangman has embraced his inner shadow, meanwhile Punk will put everyone under his and keep them in darkness. That's who Punk is. When his shadow isn't accepted, he projects his shadow onto others. Hangman believes Punk is a bad guy with bad examples, and Punk believes everything about Hangman came from his superior offering. I personally don't want to see these two resolving their conflict in a random tag team match against Team Taz a year from now. AEW has been very dry when it comes to building connections, all the wrestlers are either in factions, or in tag teams, or simply feud with each other for months and forget about it. Having Hangman and Punk do this long time 'two anti heroes contradicting each other' would be so much entertaining than having them feud for a month, then a death match or two and then moving on. Something big needs to happen in AEW, something that threatens the norm. Like a Nexus return or a nee faction destroying AEW, attacking everyone from the commentators to the referees. This should continue randomly with no clues or solutions, Punk would try to be the leader and call them out, but Hangman would preach everyone to keep an eye on him. Punk then could retaliate by saying "Not even your friends can trust you, why do think these people would?" That could lead to another layer in their rivalry.
The promo that Adam Hangman Page cut tells me he’s dropping the title to CM Punk. Either Adam Hangman Page or CM Punk will turn heel after Double or Nothing.

Punk tried to give him an out by making him shake his hand and Page wouldn't do that and then he hit Punk for real on that final shot, which is why Punk is just staring at him like wow you really just did that. The question now is if Punk did his Hangman shoot without Hangman knowing. It’s very interesting watching this after the mma hour interview. You can see punk slowly realize what is happening. Also, Al Snow’s comments about why this was such a disservice and a betrayal of trust in a business that demands it really set an interesting tone too with it all. I'm loving how when Punk talks, there's both cheers, but an audible undercurrent of booing. And when Hangman speaks, you hear the boos, but you also hear the cheers that get louder as he gets more impassioned.
People are getting into this and neither one of these men are boring the fans.
These two men have so much in their tank.
@@XXsirstrawhatXX There was kind of a funny tweet I saw about that:

Kingston: Punk is an asshole!

@@TOP0PERCENT Interesting analysis, but I'm not sure how that would make him like Captain America (Unless there's some character arc in the comics that I'm not aware of where Steve is super jealous and insecure)
@@Lunacorva I forgot to add that CM Punk is like the Tony Stark to Hangman's Cap. Not necessarily similiar characters, but their conflict seems so.
Punk then could retaliate by saying "Not even your friends can trust you, why do think these people would?"
That could lead to another layer in their rivalry.

For how short this feud has been, it has been built to perfection imo. Both guys were brilliant in this segment, and I adored the contrast in their characters. With Hangman being paranoid of Punk while still having that fire in him, while Punk was much more calm and respectfull but also looked kind of scared of him. The "I will defend AEW from you" was such a great line, and it tells me that Punk, may not be the hero some people think he is. Maybe Eddie and MJF were right about him...

This promo honestly did feel weird when I saw it. It's obvious now that Page actually doesn't like Punk and aired out a lot of feelings he actually has about Punk. Punk tried to give him an out by making him shake his hand and Page wouldn't do that and then he hit Punk for real on that final shot, which is why Punk is just staring at him like wow you really just did that.
The question now is if Punk did his Hangman shoot without Hangman knowing. Him saying the apology must be as public as the disrespect makes me think that Page apologized for the promo but Punk didn't feel like it was enough and that's where a lot of the backstage issues are stemming from with people taking sides.

If this was what they were going for to begin with, then yeah it’s a hell of a line. It wasn’t though. That’s why Punk was confused and why Shiavone looked so concerned after Page gave up the mic.
