I remember them being called Death Metal in ‘85, but many would also call it Speedmetal, and also Thrash, but Thrash Metal, but Thrash alone was another term being thrown around for Hardcore Punk in the early 80’s.. that’s what I was into, cause Metal Hair Bands were just pretty weak. By the time, Slayer came around, we were relieved to see Metal was finally growing its balls back, and obviously influenced by the better Hardcore Punk bands of the early 80’s (which plenty of that stuff still hits harder than a lot of Slayer).
@@auscryptocurrency1162 😂😂😂 I guess my comment went right over your head there. I wasn’t saying you’re wrong, I’m just clarifying that I personally saw people being confused about it, even in underground music zines (which I was very involved with back in those days). So, I guess, yeah, you’re right, technically (in hindsight), but you’re way off as far as everyone being on the same page about it the moment it hit the shelves. Also.. if you’re so “old school” I’m assuming you should remember THRASHER skateboarding magazine which dawned in ‘81, right?? But then Slayer didn’t release anything till ‘83. Wtf?? 🤷 Would you wanna try to say the Thrasher skate crew were all ((strictly)) metal guys? You do realize that D.R.I. was being called a THRASH band, right? You think they were “metal”?? I guess Metal Blade Records did, but they didn’t tour with any metal bands that year when I saw em on tour. Why not? You DO remember Speed Metal, right?? Late 70’s-early 80’s?? Motörhead was lumped into that genrefication too.. but Lemmy came from fucking Hawkwind and before that grew up a devoted BEATLES FAN?? 😂😂😂 Venom and Voivod, Impaler and Exciter were considered Speed Metal too.. they were all happening around the same time too, so you see the confusion people had?? Maybe you fancy yourself as a sitting boardmember of the “Official Council of Metalheads” who’s gotta cry foul cause some Dude might call it “Death” Metal, not “Thrash” but to me it comes off as really petty and intellectually pretentious to rigidly classify and compartmentalize everything to begin with, because at the very beginning of any movement in music history, the very first guys who did it were just pushing boundaries and trying something NEW. It’s ridiculous that people wanna discard those periods of grey areas before all the asshole zine reviewers had a circle jerk meeting and decided to “officially” label it this or that. I remember people calling it all kinds of what I mentioned whether or not they had it “right” or not doesn’t really matter ultimately, does it? I certainly don’t remember any declaration appearing on their first LP when it came out saying “THIS IS THRASH METAL”.. I just remember it was generally a lower budget metal album by a band called SLAYER, titled “Show No Mercy”. But thanks for setting the record straight, all the same, pal. 🙄

Prepare yourself for Slayer. Angel of Death is about a nazi surgeon who did experiments on jews without anesthesia. South of Heaven isn't about Hell, it's about life hear on Earth. Silent Scream is about abortion. All are great songs with a dark subject matter. Music that parents don't want their kids listening to but now we are grown and are the parents. My daughter and son loves Slayer.
Someone's already said that this song isn't indicative of the entire Slayer discography. This song would be considered "radio friendly" Slayer. Mind you, it's probably the best to introduce someone to Slayer with. Just know it gets heavier, faster, and more controversial the deeper you go.
I was born in 1963, the youngest of three by parents who grew up during the depression and became teenagers during WWII…. I‘ve always been a musical person and played trumpet in junior high and high school and played in various concerts bands, orchestra and jazz band….I sang in a cherub choir as a toddler, a church musical as a teenager and off and on in a rock garage band in the eighties…knew and hung out with all kinds of guitar players and such during that time….. I embrace and enjoy just about every kind of music there is, at one level or another….why restrict yourself?!
The blonde guitarist (Jeff Hannemman) passed in 2013 from a fatal spider bite. The other guitarist played on the Beastie Boys songs Fight For Your Right and No Sleep Till Brooklyn because both bands were on Def Jam Records at the time.
You’re absolutely Stupid for not including Metallica, I don’t care what they became later on but in the 80s you can’t deny the music they put out!!! Pure Thrash!!!!!!
That drummer is Dave Lombardo. He's a monster behind a Drum Kit. There is a Live at Wembley version of "War Ensemble" here on RUclips that is absolutely amazing. You won't be disappointed. THAT is a representation of the REAL Slayer. Lead singer and Bassist Tom Araya has Perfect Hair.

Other great older songs “Use Me Up” and “Bad Self Portraits”. Can’t wait to see them in September!!!!!
You see what you miss out on when you don't listen to THIS Rob?!(me) 🤣 This song was my gateway into Slayer in the 90s when it was on Headbangers Ball on MTV on Saturday nights. Bought the album, loved Slayer ever since. Other great songs by them just off the top of my head: War Ensemble, Skeletons of Society, 213, Dittohead, South of Heaven, and Raining Blood. Sometimes for shock value they have some very controversial lyrics so I've avoided those I think with these choices. One of my personal favorites is New Faith, but I would not subject you lovely people to that 😅 Fun fact: The video for Seasons you just watched was actually filmed in part INSIDE the pyramids at Giza. The Egyptian authorities were livid when they found out palms had been greased and a band and film crew had been let in like that.
I saw these guys on a great 1999 Ozzfest Bill, they were a run away train and confirmed their reputation for extra heaviness in a take no prisoners vibe. Great song, they were awesome live. That Ozzfest was killer: Godsmsck, System of a Down, Primus with Les Clay pool on awesome bass, Slayer, the Deftones, Rob Zombie and the original Black Sabbath reuniting. Definitely a little hearing loss, was buzzing for a couple days, LOL! We were in the 8th row and the PA for that huge gig was very intimidating, we were bathed in volume all day and night. Tony Iommi stole the show and showed everyone there who the real boss still was in a jaw dropping performance, as soon as War Pigs started you knew everyone was on top of there game, Ozzy was excellent as well. Great show from everyone, Sabbath, Rob Zombie, God smack and Slayer were all beyond great. Check all of them out when you can, Rock On and enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
Just remembering the first time Amber heard a metal song and said (paraphrasing here) "I don't think this is for me." and now here she is, a year or so later, listening to Slayer and she absolutely "gets it".

@@CANDOKNOWHOW It's always been known as thrash, nothing else. I was around back then listening to it btw, not a millennial.
@@auscryptocurrency1162 😂😂😂
I guess my comment went right over your head there.
Wtf?? 🤷
Would you wanna try to say the Thrasher skate crew were all ((strictly)) metal guys? You do realize that D.R.I. was being called a THRASH band, right? You think they were “metal”?? I guess Metal Blade Records did, but they didn’t tour with any metal bands that year when I saw em on tour. Why not?
You DO remember Speed Metal, right?? Late 70’s-early 80’s?? Motörhead was lumped into that genrefication too.. but Lemmy came from fucking Hawkwind and before that grew up a devoted BEATLES FAN?? 😂😂😂
Venom and Voivod, Impaler and Exciter were considered Speed Metal too.. they were all happening around the same time too, so you see the confusion people had??
@@CANDOKNOWHOW I don't think i'm any authority, don't make assumptions mate. I'm just telling you it was known as thrash, still is known as thrash, you're the one writing a fekkin book about it lol chill man. I know there is grey area re genres for lot's of bands, but if you were to pick one genre, that's what they were, thrash. They never really entered "death" territory, that's a different ballgame.
Slayer songs to do next...
War Ensemble (the official video) it's what I put on when introducing someone to Slayer, Angel of Death, Postmortem with Raining Blood,,and South of Heaven with Silent Scream..those songs go together in the album with transitions you don't wanna miss...
Dave Lombardo is currently the drummer for Mr Bungle.
And live drummer for The Misfits
This was part of the Big 4 in the early 90s thrash scene: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax.
Some of their best:
*Skeletons Of Society* (very high on the list)
Screaming From The Sky
Point
Dissident Aggressor (amazing intro)
Spill The Blood (amazing intro)
South Of Heaven (amazing intro)
Raining Blood
Angel Of Death (no for the faint of heart but a jam)
SLAYER!!! FINALLY!!! Amber's reaction is everything I wanted! I already knew J would love this×
“Dead Skin Mask” & “War Ensemble” are great songs off that album.
But their best is “Reign In Blood”.
Always love to see Dave Lombardo get his props !The dude is a Beast !
Dave Lombardo, Drum Legend in his time!
This is one of my favorite Slayer sobgs. Thay said, it is movinc at a snail pace for Slayer. One of the Big Four of Thrash. I'm not sure if you are remotely prepared for early Slayer.
Tom Araya - bass and vocals
Keery King - guitars
Jeff Hannemam - guitars
Dave Lombardo - drums. His last Slayer album until returning in 2006.
SLAYER!!!!!!!🤘🤘 Awesome,thanks guys!!!!!
Poor kids aren't aware yet that this is Slayer's most mild song 😅😅😅😅
Yeah
When they hear the crazier madness jams... hopeful they keep the same energy 🤘🏽😎
Agreed
Right? It's their answer to'Every Rose Has It's Thorns". 😹
@@Godric_71 😂😂
Slayer had one of the best drummers and two lead guitarist that would create two different type leads in many of their songs almost battling each other.
Amber! I 100% agree about the light and dark!
Dave Lombardo is such a legend on drums there are YT videos just focused on him playing the drums during Slayer shows.
If you want to ramp it up to 11, give "War Ensemble" a listen.
WAAAAAAARRRR
ENSEMBLLLLLLE
🤘🏽😎
Song is ahead of its time. I remember this coming out in 9th grade. Still kicking my a**.
We're gonna see Amber in a Slayer shirt in about 2 weeks. 🤘🏼
oooh. I hope none of their church friends follow their channel.
"Inert flesh, a bloody tomb, a decorated splatter brightens the room" this song makes me so happy.
SLAYER!!!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed Slayer. Kings of Thrash.
Do"war ensamble" next please
WAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR🤘🏽😎
yes this is the only good song off that seasons of the abyss album it's the heaviest fastest and will really get ur head banging it was probably their last great song period
L o l
This is a ballad for slayer
Must check out
Angel of death
Is chemical warfare
Silent Scream
Die by the sword

With Mother's day coming, you should check out the song "Mother" by Danzig.
SLAYER
Line-up (1991)
Tom Araya - Bass, Vocals
Kerry King - Guitars
Jeff Hanneman (R.I.P. 20123) - Guitars
Dave Lombardo - Drums
Cheers from CHILE!!!
"Hear on earth?"
Slayer. One of the big heavies. Can't go wrong with this band. I love the atmosphere of this song.
Amber wants dark? She has to watch King Diamond - Sleepless Nights - Live at The Fillmore (OFFICIAL)
A DANGEROUS MEETING 🤘🏽😎
Welcome to the world of Slayer! 🤟🏻🤟🏻 Rock On! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Next dead skin mask its about Ed Gein
Someone's already said that this song isn't indicative of the entire Slayer discography. This song would be considered "radio friendly" Slayer. Mind you, it's probably the best to introduce someone to Slayer with. Just know it gets heavier, faster, and more controversial the deeper you go.
Reign in Blood!!
When KK still had hair!
The blonde guitarist (Jeff Hannemman) passed in 2013 from a fatal spider bite. The other guitarist played on the Beastie Boys songs Fight For Your Right and No Sleep Till Brooklyn because both bands were on Def Jam Records at the time.
Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Testament. My big four of metal.
I love how you cut out Metallica and put in Testament!! They do need to hear Dog Faced Gods or Return to Serenity though.
You’re absolutely Stupid for not including Metallica, I don’t care what they became later on but in the 80s you can’t deny the music they put out!!! Pure Thrash!!!!!!
Your big four, not "The Big Four"
@@auscryptocurrency1162, glad you were paying attention. I don't give AGGF about anyone else's favorites.
@@ShanePenn55, wow another internet tough guy. How rare.
Jay & Amber, You’ll love Lake Street Dive’s songs " Hypotheticals”, “Nobody's Stopping You Now” and “You Go Down Smooth”!!!!
The great voice of Rachael Price, talented musicians and harmonies!! They all sing and 4 of 5 are the songwriters!!! This US based band frequently tours North America, Australia, and Europe. Time for an Indie Band!! Other great older songs “Use Me Up” and “Bad Self Portraits”. Can’t wait to see them in September!!!!!
Odd video to bring up LSD, but I love it! They are fantastic. Caught 'em opening for The Avett Brothers, in Santa Barbara, CA. Just awesome.
So glad you got to early Slayer! One of my favorite thrash metal bands ever! Love you so much Jay and Amber!
You see what you miss out on when you don't listen to THIS Rob?!(me) 🤣
This song was my gateway into Slayer in the 90s when it was on Headbangers Ball on MTV on Saturday nights. One of my personal favorites is New Faith, but I would not subject you lovely people to that 😅
Fun fact: The video for Seasons you just watched was actually filmed in part INSIDE the pyramids at Giza.
Slayer- Raining Blood
Slayer - Angel of Death
Exodus - Low Rider (War cover)
Accept - Fast As A Shark
Fear Factory - Dog Day Sunrise
Amber is becoming such a metal head and I love it!
Just remembering the first time Amber heard a metal song and said (paraphrasing here) "I don't think this is for me." and now here she is, a year or so later, listening to Slayer and she absolutely "gets it".
Tom singing, Kerry on guitar, Dave on drums and the blonde guitarist was Jeff, RIP Jeff!
ALL of Slayer's albums are awesome.
Lombardo slays drums with some eclectic jazz players, he's that versatile. I've seen him with John Zorn, Bill Laswell, etc.
John Zorn’s Naked City stuff is Badass. Those of us who know, know. All is know is that must’ve been a really awesome show, I don’t even have to ask.
Tom Araya is the singer, and you should see him now. His hair has gone gray and he looks like Santa Claus now. LOL
I used to love driving late at night to this song on lonely, country back roads. Start off just cruising and when the guitars kick in my foot would be on the floor.
Grrrrreat pick guys! Welcome to Slayer!
Awesome you recognise the skills of one of the top drummers out there. Dave Lombardo is considered a God in the metal drumming community. Great to see they are on your radar now, you'll enjoy a lot of their songs. Slayer was part of what they called "The Big 4" back in the 80s, which also included Metallica
This is a good introduction to Slayer
I saw Pantera open for Slayer the day of my mother's funeral. Such a release of emotion.
