I HIGHLY STRESS that you watch the original "leak" video before watching this just to understand that yes, a new Virtua Fighter is indeed in development. You can find the link to it, and other VF videos mentioned in this vid in the video description. That said, this is basically just me gushing about VF, my hopes and dreams for a new game based off the fact that the franchise is returning. Everything here is my opinion only, I know some people won't agree with it but hey also, I kinda don't care cause this is what I want not you, make your own vid lol. VF is such a fantastic franchise and you really don't need to change the core gameplay, just the stuff around it! Give the video a watch, leave a like for VF coming back, and let me know what you think!
Okay, something you said thar BAFFLES me is the negative reception to Capoeira being represented in VF. Imagine saying that boxing or taekwondo couldn't be represented because Balrog was the standard or because Hworang was THE rep for that style. Doesn't that sound...strange. It's at least reductive.
I think Capoeira would be a great addition. There is a lot of close quarter resources and techniques that have yet to be utilized. Unfortunately, when Capoeira is put into a video game, it’s 90% kicks. I’m trying to get in contact with RGG studios to do the capoeira motion capture for them. Wish me luck. 🙏🏾 I think other styles that VF could use is 52 blocks, Silat, and empty hand Filipino martial arts. Lastly, huge fan of the channel. 🦧 ❤👏🏾👏🏾 keep up the amazing work!
“For a lot of people it’s hard learning one combo” FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE ITS HARD LEARNING ONE COMBO I’m so glad you said it. I can’t learn a couple combos sure, but the person I’m dating at the time or a friend that comes over it’s hard for them kg they’ve never played. So many fighting game channels forget what it’s like to be an actual beginner.
As a longtime fan...they need new voice actors. My friends laughed until they cried when they heard Jacky, Lion, and Jeffry's voices back in the VF4 days. Besides that, a permanent "guest" from the Yakuza franchise would help bring in new players. While I love the gameplay, few of the classic characters have that dazzle factor.
Its a longer video for sure, but I sorta really care about VF so its kinda gotta be! I just wanna build awareness about the franchise cause im a weird position as one of the larger FGC channels that I guess I can actually make a difference? I just wanna fly the flag for the franchise I care about so much lol. VF RULES YALL
@@RooflemongerI wouldn’t say weak, but at least let the ring out be like I’m Tekken. It should lead to another stage at the bottom. Basically make it 2 ring outs for the win in that matter. But don’t get rid of it, but, “Enhance” it to a more modern fighter. P.S. I’m all for ring outs.
People who don’t like ring outs are cowards. Gamers always claim they clamor for a new Soul Calibur & Bloody Roar, but the moment they get it they’d start crying about ring outs again (happened with SC6, like clockwork).
Kalaripayattu is an indian martial art with moves that require an inhuman amount of flexibility. I would love to see VF's take on it, and it would be an opportunity to add more indian characters!🔥
Fighting styles I would love VF to implement: *Silat *Tongbei *Gatka/Sqay (only weapon user in-game, wields a baton on one hand) *Shorinji Kenpo *Tang Soo Do (Due to the popularity of Cobra Kai, maybe have a character inspired by Johnny or Miguel) I'm sure VF will think of something spectacular 🔥
When it comes to flash, we don't have to worry with the RGG Team working on it. If we get counter hits that zoom in like heat moves in Yakuza games, I'm 500% sold.
Virtua Fighter is perhaps the most influential fighting game ever created, it became the blueprint for every 3D fighter and fighting system in many games.
I agree VF6 is going to need more flash than the virtua fighter's of the past but I hope it doesn't come in the form of particle effects like Tekken. I think Tekken looks stupid when you see giant alien particle explosions just because you punch someone. Like why does a jab cause fukin fire works. Even in SF6 with the big paint bucket effect is over kill. Virtua Fighter needs to feel big and intense without alien fire works and paint buckets. Screen shake, big sound effects, blur's and dust may suffice.
@@danielm5161If there's some effects It has to be congruent to what Virtua Fighter is, and i am sure the devs understand that, VF doesn't need to be Tekken but they do need to shake up things in order to make a dent in the world of fighting games. I also think single player content is incredibly important.
Seeing Virtua Fighter for the first time is a flashbulb memory from my childhood. It was immediately impressive and awe-inspiring in implication, as if the entire future of 3D gaming flashed before my eyes.
I think one of the things they can do around animation is making getting hit or blocking look better. To draw another comparison too tekken, when a character blocks a ewgf, they reel back and there guard is visbly forced upward. Or when you block a hellsweep, and the other character does that stagger animation. These animations have gameplay reasons, but they also help sell how much force is being put into the moves. When you hit someone with a move in Virtua fighter, if there isn’t screen shake, they look like there just kinda floating on top of your kicks and punches. I think that would go a long way too making combos look more interesting.
Thats exactly it. Since its confirmed its happening, leverage your assets! RGG has a big name, they are helping with the development, so go crazy with what they can bring
I would have loved to have seen ring-outs in Tekken 8. Call me a boomer, but my favorite part of VF back in the arcade as a kid was the clumsy, flailing ring-out-follow by the winner. Like you just keep punching until you too fall out the ring. Was hilarious and unrealistic but somehow seemed like the future of games.
As much weight system adds extra weight, it balances characters from one another, fighters like El Blaze and Vanessa have a lot of pressure but take a lot of punishment, while Jeffery and wolf are more simple in gameplay but can get away with more since they don’t get launched as high. If you really want to take out the weight system, then there need to be a counter adjustment to substitute and re balance it out.
They have to use their star characters, Kazuma Kiryu or Ryo Hazuki, they cannot afford ignore them anymore. Especially with how big the Yakuza is nowadays.
Looking forward to really grinding Venessa on the new game, no pun intended. As a Tekken guy, healthy competition from a strong new VF title will be healthy for the whole 3D genre.
I honestly want as little flash as possible added to it. Especially anything unrealistic. Most I would do is maybe sweat blasting off the characters as hit sparks like Hajime no Ippo.
I’d love for them to bring back Quest Mode like in Evolution, you can play online or against CPU’s if no one is in the virtual arcade and have cosmetics unlocked there.
Oh I absolutely agree with basically everything! I will say that technically Sarah is a Taekwondo character, although even though I play her, I never even knew that, lol. I mean she has Flamingo stance, but like, I need more than that. Also a CQC or Miguel's fighting style is from Tekken, would be cool to see! And for guest characters, Majima and Kiryu are easy picks. And if they wanted to go even deeper, bring my boys Akiyama and Saejima in this. Akiyama is our kick specialist, sorta self taught with a mix of Taekwondo, and Saejima is the best Grappler in the series. Other guest characters though, idk. I'm not too familiar with Sega's relations with other companies, that isn't named Tekken. If possible though, put my guy Raiden from Fatal Fury/KOF and/or honestly any character in SNK that isn't heavy Projectile based. Thank you for this video Roofle ❤
Basically I agree with everything you said LOL. The fans that care the most are the ones who actually bring forth ideas that could work and improve on what was already implemented successfully. LOVE the SOR guest characters / costumes idea. Maybe Shenmue too?
I think the weight system can stay but I think the character by character basis thing can go. the DOA method of putting them into one of these buckets works fine by me, working on one lightweight but not another is WAY more irritating to me
I'm kinda curious about this. I'm terrible at fighters, but I kinda think it would be more interesting if EVERY match-up needed unique combo knowledge. I think it would help make bad players like me feel less stupid for not being able to memorize/execute our character's best combo, as everyone would have to be more open to in-round experimentation. Not only that, but if you are playing someone who CAN combo you onto oblivion, then there is no "oh they are just doing X's broken combo" excuse and instead it's "wow, they know exactly how to play against this character, they must have practiced this matchup". I don't know if that's VF's style, but I would like to see it somewhere since I think it would feel more organic and less about muscle memory combo execution.
@@raspberrycordial5996 it SOUNDS interesting in theory but in practice it just turns into more knowledge checks to fail on the fly and a higher barrier to entry. i understand that yeah getting caught in a relatively simple, high damage BnB over and over isn't exactly fun (that's like half the fighting games i've played at this point) but a newcomer to a game learning one combo on like, wolf hawkfield in training and it working on literally nobody else in the cast would be a real buzzkill. again, i definitely see your point, but i think the DOA weights system is a better midpoint between the two
@@bigredradishwell, in practice, the way it actually plays out is more like you learn one basic combo, and it will work on everyone BUT Wolf & Jeffry, maybe Taka too. The game is packed w easy combos that work regardless of weight, stance & even counter hit in some cases For example w Akira: Counter hit ➡️➡️➡️P -> ⬇️K+G, P ->➡️➡️KK Works on every character in the game but Taka, even the heavies. Don’t have to think about weight or stance, and good damage. If you want to optimize for better damage, you can. Vs Taka, after the SDE just do ➡️➡️KK, or DLC It’s not hard. Learning all the deeper & harder combos as you go (if you want to) is optional, but allows you to keep exploring and learning over the long run. It’s a great system. One of the best things about the series IMO
Personally I would love to see a Wing Chun practitioner. I know we have Jacky but Tekken has Leroy Smith on top of having Marshall Law and Lee Chaolan. And I would like her to be a middle aged lady. We have so many beautiful young girls in fighting games but we don't have a seasoned veteran fighter representing the fairer sex. If you know the history, Wing Chun is a female name. It was actually developped by a group of shaolin monks to make it easy for people with a regular physical condition to defend themselves. The one of the nuns adopted a girl and named her Wing Chun and taught her that style. Later in life, Chun taught her husband that style and passed it on to his students as Wing Chun Kung Fu to honor the lady. That's why it was believed that the Wing Chun Kung Fu was better suited for women.
Maybe cinematic finishers could be implemented the same way as Mortal Kombat's Brutality. Where it's one of your character's regular moves but behaves differently when it closes the round.
Sega… it’s time to take back EVERYTHING these other fighters took from you. Sega… as innovators we know you can restore order back to the FGC😄 We seen what the VF characters look like in destructible environments and walls because they were the first. It’s time to over exaggerate them physically and make them larger than life. Not that it needs reminding but for those who don’t know what Virtua Fighters/Fighting Vipers brought to fighters that everybody use is too much to explain here. If this is true. I’m gonna cry so much tears of Joy.
I just love this in depth conversation about VF. I'll say weight system should stay even if it's just for those awesome one off animations. Also no Supers. Since RGG Studio are on board, I'd like to see a Tekken Force like mode. I mean it seems like an obvious thing to got in the game.
The weight-specific animations only really apply for Taka, like the hilariously modified Izuna drop. And I think if Taka were to be included in the next VF, his weight class should stay as a character mechanic and the character should be balanced around that. Agreed with no supers. No bars in general. As for Tekken Force, I really like VF4:Evo’s quest mode as a single-player implementation where you virtually travel across Japanese arcades and fight against famous VF player AIs.
Totally agree: Flash is desperately needed. There has to be an aspect of the game that catches the eye of a casual player walking by. Tekken characters have incredible presentation and personality. Most characters in VF "look" like they are stern, stout devoted masters of their craft. Like, right before they put their own spin on a punch or a kick. Based form. Great for gameplay, terrible for visuals.
The game is is 17 years old.. VF always had better visuals and bettr animations when it came out. VF should bring more modern hit effects than Tekken's IMO These PS1 flashes are outadated. There are tons of other solutions than Street Fighter/Tekken old school flashes
@@michaelromeo9567 Agreed. I do not like how Tekken's moves feel/animate/sound so I hope they don't copy too much from them. Plenty of other ways to spruce it up, especially given the superior animations.
I agree VF6 is going to need more flash than the virtua fighter's of the past but I hope it doesn't come in the form of particle effects like Tekken. I think Tekken looks stupid when you see giant alien particle explosions just because you punch someone. Like why does a jab cause fukin fire works. @@danielm5161 you are definitely a huge Tekken hater. I know that Tekken overtook VF and made the style of VF better, but that doesn't mean people like u can start shit-talking on Tekken like it doesn't deserve to get its recognition. I know people got different opinions but srsly, this is just being too biased. A Tekken x VF would be rly cool and would love to see these two games compete. Saying that Tekken is stupid just cuz it has aliens and robots is so stupid itself and complaining how the gameplay works and the hit effects. Both games are good imo but I will be Tekken all the way cuz that shit is my childhood.
Here's how they could do "flash/supers," have a flexible finishing mechanism. Make it so that if you start a combo and the enemy dies before the combo finishes, then you can not only continue that combo to its natural conclusion, but also you can more easily chain in things that would never work otherwise. Not only this, but also the camera gets much more expressive, zooming in on each hit and making a much more cinematic presentation than would make sense during a fair match. It basically lets you style on the enemy as a way of punctuating a match, but without actually changing the outcome of it.
I honestly always liked the mechanics and movement and the way grabs and teching worked in Virtua Fighter series, on top of the ring out stuff. I think all Virtua fighter really needs is just an update in character designs and art style. But I feel besides migrating over Kiryu to Virtua Fighter, they should just throw a huge chunk of characters from the entire Yakuza series, into Virtua Fighter. Would also be cool to carry over some of the characters from Fighting Vipers over to Virtua Fighter too.
Thank you for doing this video Rooflemonger! Long live Virtua Fighter! I think for styles it might be difficult unfortunately without finding unique styles like you mention oil wrestling. VF kind of designed characters covering many styles in one character. Like Jacky's JKD has Wing Chun trapping. Brad's Muay Thai having slips and ducks from boxing (slipping and ducking is very much against traditional Muay Thai style). Vanessa's Vale Tudo has much of Brazil Jujitsu submissions in it's DNA from both starting in Brazil. And Shara's JKD -> Martial Arts has a ton of either Taekwondo or Savate kicks mixed in.
The one thing I want change is the voice acting. Every time I hear Lion's voice or El Blaze saying "Hotdog!", I die a little bit. Or when Vanessa says, "who's ready for a combar seminar? No one talks like that. Don't get me started on Jeffery dumbass voice. "I'M THE WINNER!!!
I would argue that instead of supers, they should look at something like DOA5. In that game, if you stacked up hits right you could land a big crumple state that could be combo'd into a big charge attack. Landing the charge attack would send you into a big cinematic hit that sent you flying, and since DOA stages were wild, it usually meant you got thrown into something that explodes. You could counter the crumple though, which did a lot of damage and was easy enough to do if you wanted to call out the attempt. I think VF should think more in that direction, having something big and cinematic you can hit with, but there's counter play and conditions. That way, you don't need to limit usage through a meter, since your opponent's skill will discourage you from going for it in bad situations. I could also see something like Samurai shodown's various once per game big hits, or Soul Caliber 4's guard break kills. I think supers kinda killed Soul Caliber (only partially responsible), so I agree that supers for VF would be questionable.
VF isn't just a fighting game; it's a game ABOUT martial arts. That's what makes it different from other fighting games, which often just use martial arts as only a pretense.
1. Boxer (slugger) - K is more for movement options which can be used for strings. K+G moves for movement hit moves. 2. Taekkyon practitioner - Graceful and visually stunning choreographed moves. 3. Street Brawler - Lack of discipline with slow strikes but makes up for it with strength and brute force. Takes advantage of plus frames. Kick to the nuts, eye pokes to cause stun. 4. Capoeira - Have rhythm be part of move set design. The beats and timing of the moves can be inspired my famous SEGA songs. 5. Taekwondo - I was thinking about having Sarah add on more of Taekwondo with her move set 6. Bökh - I like the weight system so maybe give us another Taka like character. 7. Guest (Ryo Hazuki - Shenmue) 8. Guest (Axl Stone - Streets of Rage) 9. Guest (Kiryu - Yakuza) - Make him under J6 mind control 10. Guest (Hotsuma - Shinobi)
I mostly agree but if hate the hit sparks and explosions I like the cinematic camera stuff on key moves and situations I'd add more character voices and sounds also I'd add finishing moves not over the top like mortal Kombat but more like deadly advanced techniques from the characters also maybe add flash backs of the fighters practicing their deadly strikes in a quick flash as they execute the move like old school kung fu movies ...I also think the characters should interact with each other differently like in unique intros depending on who they are matching up with...I love virtual fighter it does need a more dramatic presentation style to attract new customers and to generate buzz when someone watches the game they have exciting things to say describe what they just witnessed.
29:50 Oh my god, Streets of Rage guest characters would make me so happy! The Sega Genesis was my first console and SoR2 was one of the first games I played on it.
True, but Janet played like Aoi in Fighting Vipers. I say give her whatever (if any) fighting style cops or military personnel run with these days.@@Rooflemonger
As a Puerto Rican, I think it'd be nice if they gave us someone who's nationality is from PR or the Dominican Republic or even Cuban. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think we've had any of those in a fighting game before.
I'm always a big fan of your VF videos. I'd like to see a new Pacific Islander character. As for supers... I don't know, man. I'd rather have just frame input specials that trigger a cool cinematic version of a special move. Or maybe a just frame that would cause a three camera angle view of a brutal special move. Kind of like how Tekken used to handle their replays at the end of a round. Or maybe a zoom in shot of the pain on the opponents face with a slow motion effect. One thing they definitely need is to add more sounds of pain as the fighters get hit. I don't think there's any sounds like that at the moment. And please hire some good voice actors to deliver those lines so we don't end up with what happened to Tekken 8 Steve Fox. Anyways... I'm also a huge fan of Virtua Fighter and I can't wait to see what they come up with. Thanks for the video, Roof!!! Peace.
I'm sooo glad you mentioned the Tekken 8 game engine emulating VF more than the other ones. We were JUST talking about this in the VF discord! Wow. Good analysis!
Loving the VF coverage. Some general thoughts. Completely agree about the throw system. I've always thought it was a fantastic system for reading and breaking throws without making throws effectively useless at high level. Just another mind game. Also agree with removing the weight system. I appreciate the attempt at "realism" but it always felt kind of unnecessary to me. For what it's worth I think that all of the characters, including Taka, should return. VF has an incredibly varied cast, and none of the characters feel like clones. Removing any of them would be kind of a bummer for me. In terms of new martial arts I'd like to see incorporated, I'd like to see the style from the Raid films Pencak Silat represented. As well as Savate. I'd also love to see someone take a stab at Bartitsu, the Sherlock Holmes martial art. I think VF's version of a gentleman fighter could be quite fun. Really I'd like to see a lot more character personality in the gameplay. One thing I think Tekken has always done better than VF is that in VF the characters are really just an avatar for that martial art. With Jacky and Shun being the main outliers. But even they are just doing impressions of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan respectively. Also why does no character in VF have an ass? I never noticed until Ultimate Showdown, but all of these characters who spend all day kicking, and not one of them has any glutes. Once you see it, It's incredibly distracting. Mostly I just want VF's gameplay to remain "pure". No supers, no heat actions, no comeback mechanics. VF really doesn't need any of that. (Of course I'd argue that Tekken doesn't either, but I've long given up that fight.)
One thing I'll add regarding throws in VF : keep them not being able to throw out of startup frames. It's a great throw protection for beginners/mashers and that nerfs throws a bit for players that would be the most mad about them. That keeps the whole knowledge check/mind game for players for players that know how to block (and teaches them not to fall asleep at the wheel on defence) Also, super important : let Jacky players keep mashing P+K+G before round start.
Thanks for such an in-depth video Valentine to probably my favorite fighting game series (other than Bushido Blade). My opinion lines up just about exactly with yours, and on the bits I didn't already agree with you laid out pretty compelling arguments. I want a new VF to succeed if for no other reason than it is the only fighting game I can think of whose poster boy is arguably the most impenetrable, difficult to master character in the roster.
I’m so enamored with the Virtua Fighter series, as it’s the pioneer for 3-D fighters. It’s probably the most technical fighter next to the UFC games. Kage Maru, Pai Chan, Sarah Bryant, Lion Rafale, Lei Fei, and Brad Burns are me mains, and I can’t wait to see what they can do on the new VF game.
24:08 Just what I thought. I'd be glad to have a British or UK representative in Virtua Fighter, which the series never had. An English boxer would be one of them. If not, I'd like to see an Aoi-inspired character, but wearing sundresses instead of kimonos since sundresses are accepted in western culture, but not for kimonos really.
All I want from a VF game is Arcade endings, some sort of Story Mode and a more flexible customization. Also all characters from the Ultimate Showdown including Taka and some new characters.
cool video, but I really think weight classes should stay. they add to the risk/reward of playing certain characters without having to make *every hit* more dangerous for them, the way different health values would. it's not really all that confusing, it just requires practicing more situations and keeping them in mind for different matchups. funny how everyone seems to love the "mental stack" when it involves monitoring half-a-dozen meters but not when it involves, you know, actually practicing something.
Loved this vid. I think weight should still be considered. It's accurate physics. Maybe weaken/balance taka by certain low moves for each character causing him to crumple?
For boxing characters, I want 2 styles: Peekaboo: Rushdown god with all the hate; Massive burst hits that set up more burst hits and a bullying combo-heavy inside game. The second: Philly Shell. Buuut, with a Grappling/clinch foundation; Uses jab to push opponent out to stand-off range, where their counters against strikes are optimal(and deal some burst damage). If the fight gets too close, use clinch with dirty boxing to do chip damage, but more importantly, reposition opponent and push them back out to standoff, or even out of the damn ring. I wanna see Silat Buka Lingkaran(SBL) in this game. Mixed aerials and footsies to close followed by chain throws/locks. Also counters strikes into throws, a la Bayman. I think VF4 introduced the idea of critical hits to the series. Or was that DoA 3? Whatever. Maybe for big flash and supers-without-actually-adding-a-super, enough crits in swift succession can do stuff like stun states, or even borrow the disoriented blur states that are staples in boxing games? During the blur state, the victim takes extra damage, but doesn't go down easy, allowing for the other guy to style on them. But if the victim survives blur somehow, they get a brief adrenalin surge with bonus attack damage and maybe even armor? I dunno. Also...Hear me out? Temujin from Virtual On. He drops the sword and fights this weird lateral running style , staying outside, and darting in for clotheslines, knees, maybe some lucha stuff. Punch him hard enough, and the cardboard armor falls off, revealing a cosplayer character....maybe inspired by former AM2 head, Yu Suzuki? Hello again, Vanessa, Jeffrey and Goh. I missed maining yall. I hope I can finally best those damnable Akira, Kage and Lei Fei mains with consistency.
I don’t think I want them to get rid of any of the legacy memorization nonsense. Not because I love that stuff, but because every other franchise has bent over backwards to become more accessible over the years, and I think it would be really neat to have a single franchised stand apart as the unnecessarily complicated one. I’m not sure that would sell any copies of the game, but I would appreciate it personally. As for guest characters, I know a lot of the Tekken cast may feel a little too over the top, but I think there are actually variations of characters from over the previous iterations of the game that would slot in quite well. Was it Tekken 4 where Jin went full karate? Give me that guy back.
They could do so much with this game. And bring it right back into one of the top fighting games, without changing its core. Brilliant video with great ideas. 👍
I think having a cinematic finishing move only accessible in a winning round would work to get that pizzaz factor in there. Make it more like a Fatality than a Super. You land it for style points and it looks super cool but it's not super functional or anything
Thing that I wish VF to be more grounded is to get rid that bouncy ragdoll animation from juggle combo. They can make it seem natural by make the character feet stick on the ground and look stumbled for a moment before touching ground.
Never had much experience with VF but you are right to mention the animation; top of the class! They can comfortably reuse that for sure, it looks awesome.
In LAD Infinite Wealth Zhao straight up says he spent his childhood playing Virtua Fighter at Arcades. As another guest: Han Joon Gi, and yes, make him a boxer like in Yakuza/LAD
The weight class shouldn't just be thrown out all together, but simplified for sure. No sub weight classes, only light, medium, and heavy. Learning 3 - 4 versions of a combo to me works because vf isn't about enabling combos as much as it's about the dance of the on foot hand to hand combat that takes place between combos.
ALL CHARS RETURN! If they want to change Brad to another character, but use his moves, fine. I just think the cast is fine as is. Just add on to it. Silat would be cool to see as far as styles.
I like the idea of the weight system, but I've never actually tried to play or optimize at VF in a competitive sense. Theoretically it seems fine to me, because if you want to can choose to simply learn the universal combos, and then start to optimize over time, but it's possible it is just too much depth for depth's sake.
You say Yakuza was keeping it alive, but I remember another game holding the torch for VF. I think you gotta at least consider a Dead or Alive guest character. The game was literally built on the bones of VF, even using the same engine originally, and they had VF characters in there for about 10 years throughout the lifespan of 5 & 6. Though it seems DoA is dead now, it would be kind of ironic to have the opposite happen.
Yeah many don't remember or forget that DOA owes it to VF and OG fans knew it came full circle with 5 included VF characters as guests. DOA1 was built on he VF2 engine and it's legacy still persists to this day that DOA can still be played entirely using three buttons. Even DOA6 can be played entirely with 3 buttons since the Special button is a glorified macro too.
I love Kung Fu/Stance and Drunken Kung Fu type character's. I've tried but just can't get the hang of Lei-Fei. I'm decent with Shun but Lei-Fei gives me fits learning.
@@ManiacMonkboon what helps me with characters who have multiple stances is to go through their move lists at least once every time I play the game. V5 final showdown has the dojo that lets you play through each character’s move list. But that could just be me. I enjoy memorization and labbing in fighting games
@@nicholaslandolt8912 Thank you. I have every VF game sans the one on Genesis. I've been through the move list for Lei-Fei multiple time's. I just suck armadillo ass with him when trying to play as him.
I think any guest character makes sense as long as they can pull it off in game. Yakuza is the go to besides the obvious links cause its mad easy to transfer the characters over. If you did streets of rage as long as they have axel/blaze etc be more "brawlers" and keep some of the more magical/fantastical elements light then it could work
@rooflemonger I agree. I imagine bringing kiryu and yagami over from yakuza would just be seamless. Another idea I have is to give kage a joe Musashi costume
its the simple fact that overwhelmingly the biggest complaint about VF is the lack of visual flash. To the point it can only be counted as a negative if you are making a new game and trying to sell it to a new audience. I am totally fine with it the way it is, but if im looking to sell copies of a game, things have to change.
Tbh i only know VF as that Yakzua mini-game i play occasionally so i appreciate this video. Cool to hear from someone much more familiar with the series
It's funny you mention VF being the "Yakuza Minigame" because while I was always at least aware of VF games, the first one I ever played was in a Yakuza game but couldn't figure it out at the time cause I didn't really play or like fighting games. Fast forward many years later I'm playing Yakuza 7 as someone who is way more experienced in fighting games and was even pretty good at FighterZ and Tekken 7 and I'm having THE BEST TIME in VF5 with El Blaze and Vanessa being standout favs, and unable to play any other way cause I'm only on PC lol. So I'm really excited at the prospect of having a DEDICATED VF game (hopefully)on PC in Virtua Fighter 6!
I think goh definitely has to return. I also hope fof a complete combot style character creator where the player can choose the moveset and strings. If this is going to be an online game the more customization the better imo.
I don’t think throws should be changed Roof. VF is one of the only fighting games I can think of where strikes beat throws straight up. If you read a throw you can go for a huge launcher and take a chunk of your opponents life. VF is heavily based on yomi.
I agree with a lot of the points you made in the video. Virtua Fighter certainly could use a bit of a fresh coat paint when it comes to the visual department, getting rid of the weight system and having more SEGA IP integrated with the game can also help as well. Also, a martial art that I don't believe is covered in VF is Krav Maga which I think would be interesting if their isn't already a character that uses it.
If I see an official announcement from Sega I'll buy a PS5 to start training my Akira and Shun, haven't gamed for almost 10 years but a new VF would bring me back.
Styles I'd like to see: capoeira, because I'm biased towards my art. And how about a street brawler who doesn't know any martial arts, but is an experienced fighter
I'm not gonna lie I've barely played VF so it'll be fun to try it on PC I've heard a lot of good things about it and it's nice seeing a new big 3D fighter
Here's what I want
1) rollback
2) crossplay
3) massive offline mode
4) guest characters
5) Free to Play
@@FoolsGil rollback and crossplay are already confirmed
I disagree about the weight system.. it's the thing that separates it from other fighters..
“For a lot of people it’s hard learning one combo”
FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE ITS HARD LEARNING ONE COMBO
I’m so glad you said it. I can’t learn a couple combos sure, but the person I’m dating at the time or a friend that comes over it’s hard for them kg they’ve never played. So many fighting game channels forget what it’s like to be an actual beginner.
If VF takes Arcade Quest mixed with Yakuza I'm sold.
Got one of the best fighting games series and one of the best open world games series.
It would go a long way to recast the voices since some of the actors arent exactly youthful sounding these days
Agreed, also been a fan since 2 and voices need a re-do for sure. Also, have them speak their native languages
The silly voice lines are kinda part of the appeal though. Especially Lion and Jacky. I'm twice the man I used to be!!!
Shinichiro Miki will definitely be in Virtua Fighter same goes to Minami Takayama.
Being 17 years old and relatively bland character wise, I don't think many people are pining for the OG voice actors.
I love VF also but the 1 thing I never liked was being able to parry while your getting hit😢😢
@@richardcypher5452 Being able to parry in hitstun? I’m not familiar with that mechanic. Can you explain?
Please don’t get rid of ring outs. Please don’t get rid of ring outs. Please don’t get rid of ring outs. PLEASE don’t get rid of ring outs.
anyone who doesn't like ringouts is weak, there I said it.
@@priestwilliamson2135 the ringout leads to a stage at the bottom, called hell, where you die.
Hahahahahahahhaha😂
People who don’t like ring outs are cowards.
Gamers always claim they clamor for a new Soul Calibur & Bloody Roar, but the moment they get it they’d start crying about ring outs again (happened with SC6, like clockwork).
Kalaripayattu is an indian martial art with moves that require an inhuman amount of flexibility. I would love to see VF's take on it, and it would be an opportunity to add more indian characters!🔥
Fighting styles I would love VF to implement:
*Silat
*Tongbei
*Gatka/Sqay (only weapon user in-game, wields a baton on one hand)
*Shorinji Kenpo
*Tang Soo Do (Due to the popularity of Cobra Kai, maybe have a character inspired by Johnny or Miguel)
I'm sure VF will think of something spectacular
🔥
When it comes to flash, we don't have to worry with the RGG Team working on it. If we get counter hits that zoom in like heat moves in Yakuza games, I'm 500% sold.
Something tells me that's the _EXACT_ RGG was hired to work on Virtua Fighter lol
Virtua Fighter is perhaps the most influential fighting game ever created, it became the blueprint for every 3D fighter and fighting system in many games.
Not only fighting games but 3D games in general. It was the first to have more proper human 3D models and with great animation.
I don’t think VF was even the first 3D fighting game. I have to disagree with this statement. Tekken and VF play very differently.
RGG studios has great brand recognition for a generation that wasn’t around for VF
I know it's really unlikely, but the idea of Saejima in VF unlocks something deeply primordial within me.
wolf but on crack cocaine
It would be interesting to see how the most complex combat simulator out there translates an untrained street brawler
"Massive Fire" intensifies
They have to use their star characters, Kazuma Kiryu or Ryo Hazuki, they cannot afford ignore them anymore. Especially with how big the Yakuza is nowadays.
@@franciscor390 ryo lol?
Looking forward to really grinding Venessa on the new game, no pun intended. As a Tekken guy, healthy competition from a strong new VF title will be healthy for the whole 3D genre.
I honestly want as little flash as possible added to it. Especially anything unrealistic. Most I would do is maybe sweat blasting off the characters as hit sparks like Hajime no Ippo.
SEGA needs to do with VF what Capcom has been doing with SF. Put Yakuza, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Shenmue, Judgement characters in VF
yes yes yes yes yes. Maybe even throwing sonic in there somehow. No idea how that would work but that would be massive
Just yazkuza and SOR would be enough...no need of sonic...he would be out of place in that franchise
add some of the Fighting Viper , Last Bronx , Shenmue, Yakuza and Streets of Rage characters. They need to catch up to the size of Tekken roster.🙂
I think it's a good thing their lineup is small means they won't be cutting anybody for the sake of new characters which we'll be getting anyway
They throw Picky in there, I'm sold!
I'm with this take. Not only does it solve the Flash problem, but it also gets the roster closer to a modern roster size.
Honestly the size of the roster helps keep matchups manageable to keep in mind
DAYTONA CAR FIGHTER
I’d love for them to bring back Quest Mode like in Evolution, you can play online or against CPU’s if no one is in the virtual arcade and have cosmetics unlocked there.
They need to strike a deal with the Baki franchise and bring those characters into the game. It would blow up.
Throw in Kengan while we're at it.
Sarah is Jeet Kun Do technically, the style is very free form and not just "be bruce lee ripoff" which is what jacky is.
Gato from KoF would be sick dude. VF and KoF characters have met before, in DoA, so here’s hoping for some awesome guests
The game is packed w easy combos that work regardless of weight, stance & even counter hit in some cases
For example w Akira:
Counter hit ➡️➡️➡️P -> ⬇️K+G, P ->➡️➡️KK
Works on every character in the game but Taka, even the heavies. Don’t have to think about weight or stance, and good damage. If you want to optimize for better damage, you can.
Vs Taka, after the SDE just do ➡️➡️KK, or DLC
It’s not hard. Learning all the deeper & harder combos as you go (if you want to) is optional, but allows you to keep exploring and learning over the long run. It’s a great system. One of the best things about the series IMO
I played VF forever and had no idea about that weight system. this was incredibly insightful, thanks
Im going to admit that you singlehandedly hyped me tf up for vf with all the content you’ve been putting out lately!
Love to see the Lost Judgment and Yakuza characters as guest characters in VF!
I wish more games had this, its so sick xb
I notice that in VF5US height also matters as in some combos won't work on shorter characters like Shun Di and El Blaze.
Sega… it’s time to take back EVERYTHING these other fighters took from you. Sega… as innovators we know you can restore order back to the FGC😄
We seen what the VF characters look like in destructible environments and walls because they were the first.
VF should bring more modern hit effects than Tekken's IMO
These PS1 flashes are outadated.

@@Okamiera I said I don't want over the top alien particles effects in VF6 just because you punch someone i.e. tekken
Most early fighting games are about martial arts. They just had background story too.
What i love about Virtua Fighter was true 3D fighting gameplay without using bar power, install power & special move technique
Just imagine a new VF with something like the battle hub in SF6 with rotating sega arcade classics being playable
I agree with that, probably running on the same upgraded version of M2engage as the Yakuza games.
That's a good idea!
Yeah and hopefully you can invite friends to play with you. Was disappointed in sf6 that you can only local play. Why?
A new VF is looooong overdue. I never realized the last game was 15 years old until watching this video.
5. Taekwondo - I was thinking about having Sarah add on more of Taekwondo with her move set
6. Bökh - I like the weight system so maybe give us another Taka like character.
7. Guest (Ryo Hazuki - Shenmue)
8. Guest (Axl Stone - Streets of Rage)
9. Guest (Kiryu - Yakuza) - Make him under J6 mind control
10. Guest (Hotsuma - Shinobi)
Ring outs are funny. Give me the REAL back throw incident!
7:02 Classic Wolf! So cool!
I'd love to see reworked Fighting Viper characters and Janet from Virtua Cop.
Vanessa is already the virtua cop character lol. She was actually originally designed for virtua cop 3, then got transplanted into VF4
True, but Janet played like Aoi in Fighting Vipers. I say give her whatever (if any) fighting style cops or military personnel run with these days.@@Rooflemonger
I been waiting for Axel and Blaze in VF my whole life and I don't know why I haven't gotten it
I love the get weird section. You are 100% correct. Use your ips. Push character creation!!!
18:45. Taka was excluded from VF4 because they couldn't get the animations right. It wasn't about his special weight class.
The hit spark flash /camera angle changes in Tekken 8 is a huge turn off, hoping they don’t go in that direction
One thing I'll add regarding throws in VF : keep them not being able to throw out of startup frames. It's a great throw protection for beginners/mashers and that nerfs throws a bit for players that would be the most mad about them. That keeps the whole knowledge check/mind game for players for players that know how to block (and teaches them not to fall asleep at the wheel on defence)
Also, super important : let Jacky players keep mashing P+K+G before round start.
Bring the legend Segata Sanshiro into the game and lean into it. It would be so sick
What if they brought the VIRTUA to VF and had a VR headset mode? Virtua-Boy in 2024 lol 😂🎉 Great video! Always enjoy your fighting game insights.
I agree on pretty much everything. I like Brad. I don’t think the hits should be too flashy. I like it cleaner.
Glad it's coming back as my whole family was playing, wife, kids, grandma. Hell even the dog wouldve played if he had opposable thumbs
All I want from a VF game is Arcade endings, some sort of Story Mode and a more flexible customization. Also all characters from the Ultimate Showdown including Taka and some new characters.
VF needs a boxing character.
Rooflemonger talking 45m about VF? Instant watch from me!
cool video, but I really think weight classes should stay. they add to the risk/reward of playing certain characters without having to make *every hit* more dangerous for them, the way different health values would. it's not really all that confusing, it just requires practicing more situations and keeping them in mind for different matchups. funny how everyone seems to love the "mental stack" when it involves monitoring half-a-dozen meters but not when it involves, you know, actually practicing something.
I agree.
Yes!! Removing it would be awful
Anyone who's played VF for more than 2 hours would agree with you lol.
Loved this vid. I think weight should still be considered. It's accurate physics. Maybe weaken/balance taka by certain low moves for each character causing him to crumple?
Sega needs to hire rooflemonger. If they do everything he said, I'll be the buying and playing VF for a long time
Thank you so much Rooflemonger 🦍. Keep fighting the good fight. Zoomers must know about Virtua Fighter !
Cant wait for new VF! Thanks for making this vid, Roofle. This game deserves so much hype, spread the word!
Wa, no Kage footage.
Huge fan of ring outs. Voldo main in sc. I always love the awareness of the stage that makes ring outs interesting
My favourite fighting game!
As long as Lei Fei comes back I'll be stoked!
I gotta have my Kung Fu stance characters in Fighting games
I love Kung Fu/Stance and Drunken Kung Fu type character's. I've tried but just can't get the hang of Lei-Fei. I'm decent with Shun but Lei-Fei gives me fits learning.
@@ManiacMonkboon what helps me with characters who have multiple stances is to go through their move lists at least once every time I play the game. V5 final showdown has the dojo that lets you play through each character’s move list.
But that could just be me. I enjoy memorization and labbing in fighting games
As for leifei, seriously i want 3 new stances and a low throw to beat fuzzy guarding lol
@@nicholaslandolt8912 Thank you. I have every VF game sans the one on Genesis. I've been through the move list for Lei-Fei multiple time's. I just suck armadillo ass with him when trying to play as him.
@@nicholaslandolt8912 Thank you. I typically do that as well with all Fighting Game's. I just need to practice more I'm guessing.
DLC fantastical stages and costumes would be amazing.
Do you think it makes sense to bring a streets of rage guest character on as well since they are making another game for that franchise as well?
I think any guest character makes sense as long as they can pull it off in game. Yakuza is the go to besides the obvious links cause its mad easy to transfer the characters over. If you did streets of rage as long as they have axel/blaze etc be more "brawlers" and keep some of the more magical/fantastical elements light then it could work
@rooflemonger I agree. I imagine bringing kiryu and yagami over from yakuza would just be seamless. Another idea I have is to give kage a joe Musashi costume
I agree with 90% of this video but I don’t want vf to look like tekken in terms of flash cause vfs charm is in the realism for me
Facts
its the simple fact that overwhelmingly the biggest complaint about VF is the lack of visual flash. To the point it can only be counted as a negative if you are making a new game and trying to sell it to a new audience. I am totally fine with it the way it is, but if im looking to sell copies of a game, things have to change.
@@RooflemongerThen include a “classic” visual style mode for old fogies like me. Particle Puke turns me off more than actual puke.
I'd be very happy if they kept all 19 character's and added 7 more. I love Eileen's Monkey Kung-Fu.
They should add Knuckles as guest character. Do like a stylised redesign of Knuckles to fit the art style
I'm not gonna lie I've barely played VF so it'll be fun to try it on PC
I've heard a lot of good things about it and it's nice seeing a new big 3D fighter
I think a krav maga tall guy would be dope or maybe a Lethwei/traditional muay thai
