  • 1989's Sung pour Homme is a classic men's fragrance that is clean and relatively long-lasting cheapie cologne. So why don't I love it?
+++ It's Alfred Sung, not Albert Sung. Sorry about the mistake!

Sung Homme is in the same vein as Preferred Stock and Giorgio Red, rather than Irish Spring. I'm glad you didn't exactly affirm the similarity to Irish Spring. I agree that there is a remote resemblance, but it's more similar to those others I mentioned.

Thanks for the comment! I haven't tried Giorgio red yet and had only a brief spin with Preferred Stock.

I got a bottle of Sung Homme because of the reviews that compared it to Irish Spring soap. I was sorely disappointed. This lacks the bright mossy greenness that makes Irish Spring smell "Irish" and evocative of the spring. To this day, I'd like to find a fragrance that actually does smell a lot like Irish Spring, a common claim that's made about several fragrances. So far, the only one I've tried that seems in the same general ballpark is Jaguar for Men (the green bottle that first came out in the late 1980s). I've settled on the Jaguar because I think of it as an upscale version of Irish Spring, almost as if Irish Spring were an okay-quality but cheaper imitation of the Jaguar.

I heard that Phoenix Artisan's Accoutrements makes shaving soap, aftershave and EDT that is an "homage" to Irish Spring. Haven't tried it yet.

Gracias for el comentario!

@@classicalgrooming Colgate Palmolive used to make it, and in the United States it was called Irish Spring, now it is made by Genoma-Lab, the interesting thing would be to know if Colgate Palmolive still manufactures it in the United States, but yes, it is an excellent soap.

Patrick by Fragrances of Ireland is much nicer and the best Irish Spring stand in.

Nice review. I was thinking about buying a bottle, but after your review, I am thinking not.
