AVON's Mesmerize: A possibly SEDUCTIVE fragrance by AVON
Avon's 1992's Mesmerize is a bold, some might say seductive fragrance, that is inexpensive to wear. It does have similarities to another polarizing fragrance...

      There are some rumors that say that it was initially developed as a mouthwash, then reformulated as an aftershave. The scent description is not far off, but the main note to my nose is pettigrain, which has a floral and herbal scent to it. It's nice.

    I’ve always liked their Wild Country Cologne ( even in the newer formulation ). Should I take this for a spin, usually I don’t like things that are very fruity? Thanks for another excellent review, sir. P.S. You’re right, Scents of South Jersey will HATE this. Thanks again.

    • @classicalgrooming

      Thanks for the comment! Mesmerize is not very fruity, at least to my nose, so I wouldn't think that would be a problem for you, but it does have a heaviness or dirtiness that may turn some people off. I can't say whether this would be for you, it is nothing like Wild Country, but I find it to be a good buy for the price. Your Mileage may vary!

      Good for you for trying it out! I'm sorry that it wasn't your thing. The modern aftershaves are not as good as the Faberge Brut of yesteryear, but even then the drydown had a "powdery" aspect to it, so it still might not have been your cup of tea.

    This one was the first balm or anything like it I ever tried. Severe irritation after a double edge razor shave prompted me to take a trip to a local store, and I found this Sensitive Postshave Lotion, took it home and applied a small amount. It worked as I hoped; or at least far less irritation upon applying it. Not at all greasy, either. Very strong fragrance, but I did not care. I just wanted to get rid of the burning irritation.

    Looking back on that comment about the products I wanted you to try--you *CAN* try those pomades like Royal Crown, Dax Wave and Groom, Murray's (super hard to wash out), and some of that stuff, but I would definitely be careful and vigilant while using those because it can be hard to wash out, especially the Murray's. I would definitely recommend trying the Pinaud Clubman Styling Gel though. Very easy to wash out and it actually makes your hair feel silky smooth when you wash it out, at least for me anyway. It doesn't crunch up that much either. I used it everyday and it always got the job done and was very basic and easy to use, sort of like the Brylcreem and Groom and Clean.

    Nice to see Aqua Velva Musk finally reviewed on here. Skin chemistry is really quite something. To my nose it smells very clean, but when out in a breeze I get a lot of soap and powdery notes after the initial application. It's a reminder of my late grandmother, both in the perfume I remember on her as a child and in the soap she stocked in her bathroom. I just found out she wore Estee Lauder - Beautiful. Am I the odd one out here? Also, regarding Aqua Velva ads, google the ad called Bring on the Blue, and watch your day brighten up.

    • @classicalgrooming
      @classicalgrooming Месяц назад

      No, I can see a connection. Where Fragrantica lists "powdery notes" for AV Musk, I'm getting some of what I think is carnation and ylang ylang which were both big in women's fragrances and soaps back in the mid 20th century. Thanks for being part of the channel

    • @jeffreyrainey1015

      @@classicalgrooming I was thinking about AV's masculine marketing for products like these, when there was simultaneously a lot of that crossover in perfume and cologne profiles that you're talking about. While today's fragrance marketing is very intentional with the promise of courtship, perhaps the point of old ads like these was to help men improve their sense of self. Because regardless of whether others love it or not, you love it, and want to wear it. I know I certainly do. With that being said, the old Ice Blue ads were pretty blunt. :)
