Let me correct myself! I said one serving, but what I meant was it is all cooked at once! Each jar is the equivalent of 1 box, so it is actually 4-6 servings. My apologies lol😁
“One batch”, I said to myself silently while watching and hearing you say that - with a smile, of course. Because a big eater might eat the whole thing!😂
I bought Chili Mac Hamburger helper and divided it into four portions since I live alone. I was shocked how little pasta they give you. Every time I made it, I got pissed that they are shorting me on pasta. I mean, I'm supplying the beef separately. All they give you is pasta and seasoning, and they short you on pasta? I vowed to start making my own, then along you come. Thanks for the start!!
Add extra dry noodles to everything you can. A smidge at a time, balance the water, seasoning. Quick rice also. Over some unattractive bread stuffs works too. You're right about them only supplying flavoring and a few noodles. I like this "from scratch" approach better, but until then the "extras" added to anything commercial will always be an upgrade. Take care.
I mean for me one box is a large portion of about 1 1/2 servings I never understood how a box was supposed to feed 4 even when I was a kid my grandmother made 2 boxes and 2.5 pound of burger to feed 4 people one of which was me a child and her and she never ate a lot the other 2 my parents were fairly normal eaters
@sqike001ton That depends on your age and how much energy you expend. When I was a teenager, I could eat a double cheeseburger, onion rings, a chocolate shake and still feel hungry. Now, in my 60s, I couldn't eat anywhere that much. The amount you eat tends to drop with age.
My first years of marriage, I made a lot of hamburger helper. I really like several flavors but I got tired of it. It was my overuse of making it that really caused me to learn how to cook homemade. I periodically crave Hamburger Helper. Thanks to you, I can make it without all the bad stuff now. Thank you
OMG Tammy I ❤you. I love hamburger helper but they don’t taste the same as they did when I was a kid, and the pasta turns too soft. I will definitely be trying these options soon. 😋
@70foolio nothings the same as we were kids! It's 2024,everything is fast, fast food, fast internet, fast everything,fast..Tim Hortons, fast caffeine, families are on fast overload, worked to death ! I once tried hamburger helper when a friend sent me some as its not available in the UK love the stuff thanks to your recipes I can now make versions of it whenever I want :)
Oh My Gosh!!! If you were right here I'd give you a big ol hug! I love this so much! I am a party of one and sometimes I get so sick of cooking for myself! Once I get these all made up it is going to make this old lady's life a whole lot easier & faster! You are a blessing! THANK YOU!! ❤❤
I love this because you can control the amount of sodium and you know what is in the mixture. Brilliant idea! Have you already made salad dressing mixes? I’m excited! New subbie!❤
Ooooo....I used to love HH. But lately, the boxed stuff just hasn't been the same as it used to be. I discovered as a single mom that I could get by with only putting in half a pound of hamburger meat. You honestly can't tell the difference. Also, how many servings do each of these make? It's just me now and I'm trying to decide whether I should cut it in half or cut it down to a quarter.
Me and the Wife spend about two to three months dragging our trailer around the central and western states. I am gonna have to show her this video. I think this is cool, we like doing things together and this looks like fun. Thank You.
Look for Knorr Boullion products, they have a tomato Boullion with chicken flavor that’s excellent. I live in California so we have a lot of Mexican food products in our large chain grocery stores, so you may find it in the “Mexican” aisle under Caldo De Tomate Con Sabor De Pollo.
Well I'm gonna have to make up some of these mixes. I can't get hamburger helper in the UK without paying for imported products, but I'd rather make it myself. I've made from scratch versions, of course, but never tried making a shelf stable mix for them! We'll have to try them out and see how we like them. If they're a hit, I'll make up several for quick, easy dinners!
I’m getting my first apartment with my bf February 18th. I’m so excited, but also so nervous. Couponing videos, canning, shelf stable meal prep, meal prep, so much has been helping. Thank you for being one of them
Firehouse Flavors is a company I buy flavored powders from for things like this. You can get tomato powder from them but also powdered balsamic vinegar, teriyaki, and Worcestershire sauce.
Spoiler allert. I love me some spinach in my lasagna, so try some defrosted spinch in it and cook it until well heated, ooh, dried mushrooms in the dry mix, or fresh mushrooms added to the mix.
Lassgna hh is also my favorite. Loved the cheeseburger one as a kid but they changed the cheese in it some years back & I don't care for it now so I'm excited to try a homemade version. JUST made that cheeseburger one tonight for my Dad...right before this video came on 🙃.
I made the stroganoff jar last night and made the hamburger helper tonight. I didn't drain the beef because I thought it was leaner than it ended up being. Paid for that later, but it was still tasty! Will make again!
Made this tonight. Good but needs more. 1) sharp cheddar or extra sharp. 2) increase cheese from 2 to 3 cups. 3) add 1tbsp of corn starch to dry mix. Ps if using nonfat milk powder, which is all my store sells, throw in a tbsp of butter when you add the water.
Thank you! For some reason you popped up in my feed today, and so far i have learned to make pudding mix, Rice-a-roni, and now Hamburger Helper. You have such a calm and fun demeanor. I love listening to you! Subscribed ❤

I will definitely be making these! Especially the lasagna one! I have some mini lasagna noodles that I got from WinCo (or Trader Joe’s, I’ve seen them at both places). Hopefully I can use the same amount as your bow ties.
I have never like hamburger helper but my husband love the stroganoff one. I like that I can pronounce everything in it from now on. Thanks for the shelf stable home made option.
Whenever I buy something like Hamburger Helper, I've always said, "I can make this at home." It will for sure taste better and have no preservatives and chemicals.
My favourite Hamburger helper was the beef stew. It saddened me when they no longer made it. These all look yummy! I've been wanting to get into making pantry-stable meals. This is a good starting point!

I just found your channel about a month ago. I love all the mixes you make up. I try and cook mostly homemade meals so we don't eat all those chemicals they put in out food. Thank you for sharing.
If your mailing address didn't say Louisana, I would have sworn you were from my part of Georgia. I'll be trying these out and encouraging my wife to prep these instead of buying boxed stuff. You rock.
According to Google, it’s 1/4 cup cheese powder for 1 cup of cheese. However, I would definitely test it out because some cheese flavors are very strong🙂
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m going to make these for my daughter & her hubby. They are going to love this. Plus my youngest to fill her pantry. Great idea’s 👍👍🙂🙂😊😊
Do you have a copycat for the Hamburger Helper Spaghetti? They stopped selling it & it was a family favorite. We always made 2 boxes of it & then dumped it in a tall casserole dish; added a a pound of shredded Colby Jack cheese; & then baked until bubbly good. It was even better on a reheat day with the leftovers.
I haven’t had any issues making this a week or 2 ahead and leaving it in the pantry. However, if you’re uncomfortable with it, you can always leave it out and just add it when you cook it😁
So you folks normally buy that dried so-called “Parmesan cheese” off the shelf and then store it in your fridge, do you? If not, then why wouldn’t this stuff she’s just made up also be shelf stable..?
@TalesFromAnEmptyNest what is the title of your other RUclips channel ? BTW I absolutely love your videos, I'm from Australia living in the USA and I love heating your voice ❤
Would you say that there are 4 servings per jar? I’m guessing by the hamburger amount, if you mentioned and I missed it 😊please excuse my lack of attention. I want to make these for Christmas gifts for busy moms. Thanks for investing in me and mine ❤❤❤
Our favorite is Chili Mac. I showed my mom how to do it because it's something our preferred store stopped carrying. It's a cup of large elbow, a pack of taco seasoning, 8oz of tomato sauce. I like to add petite tomatoes myself. I've even added chili ready beans.
Here's a couple ideas: Add a tablespoon of mushroom powder to the stroganoff mix Add noodle & sauce mix to hamburger first, then the jar is the right amount of water and gets all the rest of the seasoning powder out. Gonna be making a stack of these for my camp next spring!
The lasagna I would eat within a week or two because of the Parmesan, but it would last much longer if you choose to leave it out and just add it when you cook it. The other 2 should be good for up to a year if they are stored correctly😁
Thank you! Great video! What I don't understand is why you first put the dry ingredients into a bowl and then poured it into the jar. Why not just measure it into the jar?! You seem like such a practical person! I have grown to sneer at presenters who use containers they don't need to use just to have things look good! Thanks again!
I stopped buying H.H long time ago. I make my own version of it now. I am glad I stumbled up your channel. We did the stroganoff one, it was gone in a flash. My family stated it's a keeper! I will try your others as well!
Love your mixes! Have made a few and can't wait to make these. Question. Can I substitute powdered creamer instead of the milk? I have a big tub of unflavored creamer left over from hurricane season that I need to use. Thoughts?
Thanks! I’ve never used powdered creamer in place of powdered milk, but I’m not sure if it would work because most powdered creamers don’t actually contain milk. It would definitely change the taste and texture🙂
Thank you!! I love the lasagna "Hamburger Helper" but my favorite is Rice Oriental, which you can't get anymore but I see you have a recipe for that. I'll definitely be making that one! The pizza one was always good too.
I'm genuinely curious about the texture of these. I'm not a fan of actual hamburger helper because the texture if the sauce has been gritty the last few times I bought it. Are these smoother?
Thank you for doing these videos! One thing I have missed about using boxed processed foods is how easy they are. I am going to make these for my pantry for days when I'm not up to cooking as these look easy!

Hey! I love this idea. I've made stroganoff from scratch and this seems alot simpler lol. I was wondering how long these would last stored in the pantry?
Thanks! If you’re weird about not putting the Parmesan in the fridge, cook that one within a week or two. The others will be good for at least a year if stored correctly 😁
@ oh wow! Really? Yea I normally keep parm handy anyway. We have one of those vacuum sealers for the mason jars and I’m assuming that’s how you can keep them fresh for so long?

I’m looking into tuna and chicken helper😁
You need to try a dash of Worcestershire sauce in that stroganoff. Man it's good
I do add it my homemade stroganoff and it is delicious!😁
Turmeric in the cheeseburger will make it "classic yellow". Its what kraft uses in mac n cheese now

Our favorite is Chili Mac. I showed my mom how to do it because it's something our preferred store stopped carrying. It's a cup of large elbow, a pack of taco seasoning, 8oz of tomato sauce. I like to add petite tomatoes myself. I've even added chili ready beans.
That sounds really good! I’ll have to try that! 😁
Here's a couple ideas:
Add a tablespoon of mushroom powder to the stroganoff mix
Add noodle & sauce mix to hamburger first, then the jar is the right amount of water and gets all the rest of the seasoning powder out.
Gonna be making a stack of these for my camp next spring!
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing!😁😁
Thank you. This is a fantastic way for my brain to understand pants!
😁😁
Not gonna lie, I was skeptical but these look good, especially the lasagna.
There really good😁
If you have a neighbor who can't eat much you can do this too. Especially when they do so much for you.
Good idea😁
What is the shelf life for these? Thank you!
The lasagna I would eat within a week or two because of the Parmesan, but it would last much longer if you choose to leave it out and just add it when you cook it. The other 2 should be good for up to a year if they are stored correctly😁
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest What if you can them ? Would the heat hurt the dry ingredients ?
@ I honestly have no idea. I’ve never done any canning. Check google and see if you can find anything helpful there😁
@@StonewallJackson-n8wyou cannot can these. You could vacuum seal it with the jar attachment though.
@@StonewallJackson-n8w They could be freeze-dried.
You could potentially eliminate the tomato sauce by adding tomato powder to the seasoning blend.
You could😁
8:47 To my Scandinavian ears it sounds like you’re saying ”Hamburger, help her”, when you say ”Hamburger helper”.
Lol I can see that😁
Add Worcestershire sauce and mushrooms to the stroganoff, yummy
Sounds great!😁
These look amazing! Do you think ground turkey would work as well as ground beef?
I’m not Tammy😂, but ground turkey works just as well!!
Thanks! Absolutely you can use ground turkey😁
I have used turkey, pork, sausage, or chicken with HH, so I am sure they'll work here ❤
@ yep! Any of these will work😁
These ideas have gotten me quite inspired! Thanks sis. PS the coffee creamers are AMAZING
Thanks sis! I’m glad you like the creamers😁😁
New subbie! Love your ideas. Trying this for sure thx.
Thank you! Welcome to the family!😁😁
I need to find me a woman who respects pasta. One of my exes used to clown on me because I love Hamburger Helper.
Lol team pasta😂😂
Thank you! Great video! What I don't understand is why you first put the dry ingredients into a bowl and then poured it into the jar. Why not just measure it into the jar?! You seem like such a practical person! I have grown to sneer at presenters who use containers they don't need to use just to have things look good! Thanks again!
Thanks! You can do it either way. I just like mixing it in a bowl🙂
made the lasagna today and my son loved it. Very tasty.
That’s awesome! I’m glad he enjoyed it😁
I stopped buying H.H long time ago. I make my own version of it now. I am glad I stumbled up your channel. We did the stroganoff one, it was gone in a flash. My family stated it's a keeper! I will try your others as well!
Thank you and welcome to the family!😁
with the cheese burger i add chopped dill pickles and a little ketchup and mustard and it complexly changes it so much better
I’ve never added those things to mine. Might have to give it a try😁
I will be making these! I can’t handle all the processed stuff in Hh!
It’s so much better homemade! 😁
Powdered creamers are mostly dried hydrogenated oil and sugar with flavoring and coloring. It's has no nutrients unlike powdered milk.
Thank you!! I love the lasagna "Hamburger Helper" but my favorite is Rice Oriental, which you can't get anymore but I see you have a recipe for that. I'll definitely be making that one! The pizza one was always good too.
I know it! I’m always so sad when they stop making things I love!😁
I still buy Hamburger Helper occasionally so I will be making these. Thank you for sharing! How would you make Chili Mac Helper? I like that one also.
I haven’t done chili mac🙂
I'm genuinely curious about the texture of these. I'm not a fan of actual hamburger helper because the texture if the sauce has been gritty the last few times I bought it. Are these smoother?
These are not gritty at all😁
Thank you for doing these videos! One thing I have missed about using boxed processed foods is how easy they are. I am going to make these for my pantry for days when I'm not up to cooking as these look easy!
Thanks for watching! I love having these to grab on days I don’t feel like cooking😁
It’s just my husband and me at home now, and I love making hamburger helper for us, I can’t wait to try your recipes. Thanks again!
You bet, I hope you enjoy it! 😁😁
I just love listening to you talk. I am from the south. I live in the midwest now. 😢. I miss home. Your voice is so comforting. I made your strawberries and cream instant oatmeal and the apple cinnamon ( I added walnuts). I can’t wait to try making these hamburger helpers. Have you ever tried recreating the tuna helper? I will be making your one pot beef stroganoff this week. Thank you for sharing.
I'd like to be on the receiving end of that Stroganoff gift!😋
Lol it’s good!😁
Can you make it without powdered milk if you are lactose intolerant? Does it still work?
I’ve never done it without, so I’m not sure. However, you can get dairy free milk powder😁
If you vacuum sealer the jar,how long do you think it would store?
Google says 1-2 years😁
@TalesFromAnEmptyNest Thanks for the information.
@ yes and yes lol😁😁
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest gotcha! Also I was wondering for the Cheeseburger Mac, you could use a cheese powder sauce mix for extra creamy cheese huh?
@@thadimusgames3460 yes you can! I haven’t done it with the cheese powder, so I can’t tell you how much to add, but you can certainly do it😁😁
What a fantastic idea to make up the powder sauce into a 'kit'. Bravo!! I'll be doing this for sure.
Thanks! It's really easy and saves lots of time! 😁
