I am a metal head who loves all kinds of music, but this is one of my favorite songs from the 80's. It always makes me feel uplifted and happy. Great reaction.
Yep! You got it! Just change 'Kyrie eleison' with 'Lord have mercy' to the lyrics. He's asking for the Lord to be with him through his endeavors and life. Great song! Love the part at the end when the instruments drop off and the chorus kicks in.
"Lord have mercy" down the road that I must travel (Life!). YOU should appreciate that sentiment very well. Love that you're doing a lot more reactions every day and you keep doing some of my favorite songs from youth. Keep it up!
@@t.a.k.palfrey3882 didn’t say it was but the origins are from the Orthodox Church prior to the Great Schism when Rome was part the One Church and well before any Protestant denomination.
Yes, it means Lord, have mercy in Greek. This song /this prayer has touched many hearts - there’s something so raw & uplifting- how blessed we are to have such awesome music 💟
I had the opportunity to host a Mister Mister concert in 83. Hung out with them before and after the show. Very nice bunch of guys. It was my first Mother’s Day as a mom. Jen was 3 months old. She slept the whole time. And she got AKG’s for work. It was a good day.
Kee-ree-ay-lay-sone. Catholic and Lutheran churches have a structured service (liturgy) that has the "Kyrie" at a certain point before a hymn of praise.
I read somewhere that the songwriter said it is a meditative prayer that is not meant to make a religious statement. That it is realizing how insignificant our actions are compared to the universe.
As part of the Greek formula Kyrie eleison (“Lord, have mercy”), the word is used as a preliminary petition before a formal prayer and as a congregational response in the liturgies of many Christian churches. (Pronounced keeree eeleezon). Replace this greek with Lord have mercy in the lyrics and you'll see how it fits perfectly! 😉
Richard Page (singer/bassist) was asked to replace Peter Cetera in Chicago before Jason Scheff, but turned it down. And yes, it was a Christian prayer song. Even "Broken Wings" has a spiritual theme to it.
Thank you. I was about to type that but figured I would look for someone else stating this fun fact first. BP needs to react to *Peter Cetera* - _Living In The Limelight_ his most rocking song which makes sense since the lead guitar was performed by Steve Lukather from TOTO.
I saw Mr. Mister in concert back in the day and the Bangles opened up for them. Still one of my all time favorite songs and the entire album Welcome to the Real world is so good.❤
Mr. Mister was one of those bands that, while short-lived, hitting it big in 1985 with this song and "Broken Dreams". Their style & sound helped to define the 80's. Their music & videos were on constant rotation.
Kyrie Eleison is pronounced like "keer-ee-ay eh-lay-ee-son" and it is Greek for Lord have mercy. This is one of my favorite songs. Richard Page is a great vocalist and a pretty awesome human from what I've heard. Professor of Rock had a really good interview with him once. This song & Broken Wings are definitely on my playlist. Loved them when they came out & still do today. Some things are just timeless. I didn't know until recently that Page had turned down lead vocalist offers for Chicago and Toto in the past. Apparently, Ringo Starr was effective in enticing Page to join his All-Star Band nearly 15 yrs ago, though. I may be checking that out soon, too.
It's a great song regardless of what it means. If it has a message that resonates with you it just elevates it that much more. Lot's of us that aren't christian still love this song!
I had a girlfriend at the time this came out who loved this song - I heard it so much I refused to listen to it again - until now - actually a tune - composition is so 80s and cool lol 😂🎉

Having lived a life far from God until my late 40's I appreciate this song even more now. Thank you for this as I probably never would have tried to figure it out and just kept enjoying it as I did before.
Richard Page was in the Phoenix Boys Choir when he was younger (his mother was one of the Choir Directors). The Choir did a lot of songs using the Latin mass. This maybe where the idea for the song comes from.

Yep
And we loved it
Sure, but 90 % of the masses
I suspect, don't know it. So, it's never been referred to as a Christian Rock song.

I don't care one way or the other, it's still a banger. Fantastic song.
'Kyrie, eleison' that is to say, 'Lord, soothe me, comfort me, take away my pain, show me your steadfast love
As a kid growing up in the Catholic Church when much of the mass was still in Latin, Kyrie elaison was part of the prayer every Sunday.
My Anglican mother knew what Kyrie meant before my Catholic friend did.
The Latin Mass is still around. We won’t let it die.
"Kyrie eleison" is Greek, not Latin. And it's still sung in the Penitential Rite of the Novus Ordo liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church.
It means "Lord have Mercy". I remember it a bit from the end of the Latin era. Christi elaison is "Christ have Mercy".
Lord Have Mercy on the road that I must travel.. Not a better prayer for that. Epic Song
Yes, this song definitely deserves to be called epic!

In the Orthodox Church you will hear this prayer dozens of times. It is one of our most important prayers ☦️📿
It isn't only Orthodox churches where this Greek chant is used. It is used at Roman Catholic Mass and at Episcopal/Anglican Eucharist services.

In the catholic church too. At each mass -- sometimes in English/sometimes in Greek

That's probably the proper Greek, but in Catholic mass you'll generally hear it as either "Keer-ee-ay El-ay-ee-son" or "Keer-ee-ay El-ay-son".
