Always had a soft spot for Mr. Mister, as they were formed in my hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Sadly, they only lasted eight years as a band (1982-90), and only two of their albums got any traction with listeners. Both "Kyrie" and "Broken Wings" hit #1 in 1985. After that, they hit the Top 10 with "Is It Love" (definitely should be your next one), and then had another hit with "Something Real". To this day, Richard Page's vocals still give me goosebumps. Also - as you heard in the song, the title is pronounce "KIH-ree-ay"... NOT like Mr. Irving. :) Also also - When are you gonna do some more Richard Marx? "Endless Summer Nights" and "Angelia" are both great songs. I'll also remind you, Jay, that you've only done "ya boy" Corey Hart twice, and it's been a while. "Everything in My Heart" is a great song of his.

Guys...sorry to tell you, the song is pronounced "Kir-e-a." The full phrase of the song that Richard Page sings is "kyrie eleison," Latin for "Lord, have mercy," and as told here, it's used as part of a prayer in the Catholic Church (and since my dad was a Catholic Deacon, I KNOW what I'm talking about). This song has religious elements and lyrics (which Richard Page and company used quite often) backed by a rock-pop beat that is just freakin' infectious. I'm glad you guys have discovered Mr. Mister, probably one of the BEST underrated rock/pop bands of the 80's. Richard (the bassist), Steve George (the keyboardist), Steve Ferris (lead guitarist), and Pat Mastellotto (drummer, who later joined the Rembrandts ("I'll Be There For You" from Friends)) only lasted til the end of the decade, but they were very critically acclaimed. Get your ears and find "Welcome To The Real World," the LP/CD from where "Kyrie" comes from, I promise you won't be disappointed. The title of the song is pronounced "KEE-ree-yay", the phrase is "Kyrie eleison", which translates in Greek to "Lord, bave mercy" and is pronounced "KEE-ree-yay ee-LAY-ee-sohn". It's the congregation's response during a tradition Christian prayer in church as the priest recites various things that need to be prayed for that week. Oh goodness, such nostalgia with this song! Those of us who grew up with this music didn't quite realize how good of an era we were witnessing firsthand. Well, okay, we knew it, but I don't think we realized it wouldn't last forever. And it didn't. This fave from Mr. Mister exemplifies that feeling.
I have loved this song since I first heard it as a kid in the 80s. It is the epitome of timeless music and such a brilliant song. I really enjoyed how much you seem to like it.
Every decade has its music that shines thru and is a new and fresh sound...but nothing was like the 80's...so many artist..so much talent...every song on the radio made you sing and smile..or dance and cry...and of course the start of MTV...seeing those who made that music was a game changer...so blessed to have spent my entire 20's as a person of the 80's...you two are so much fun to watch...love how you are enjoying the history of song...
This is definitely in my top 10 of 1980s songs. Brings back memories of 1985, 6th grade, and just feeling good about life. I also can't help but to get up and move when it comes on. Traditionally, Kyrie is an old choir hymnal, a prayer in song. Mr. Mister certainly kept that inspirational energy with their rendition.
I grew up in the 80's. In my opinion, it was the greatest time. The best movies and music! And best Broadway shows! I'm blessed to have grown up in that era!
Literally tears in my eyes. The song has always been a banger. There were three big hits off this Album if I remember right "Welcome to the Real World". Bless that whole decade with the massive variety of popular music that blew up in those 10 years...
Love this song it’s impossible to listen to and not move and feel good. Kryie eleison means Lord have mercy. It’s meant to be a kind of prayer in song.
One of my all time favorite songs. I think I was the only black kid in my high school who listened to this song in 1986. Had meaning then and has it now.
Another one I love, takes me right back to college. The ascending bass line in the chorus and the drums give me goosebumps. This is arguably the best of their songs. Richard Page has one of the great pop voices. (It’s pronounced “kee-ree-ay a-lay-son”, a Christian prayer pulled from the Greek language.)
Grew up with this song on the Billboard charts and still listen to it to this day. So many gems came out of that era. Ya'lls heads bobbing to this tune is just an indication that its a moving tune for sure!
This song reminds me of my mom🥲❤ I miss her. She was a dancer/choreographer and she used to dance to this. I enjoyed watching her. She looked so happy with this song ❤
By now, you know they're saying "Lord have mercy" or if you are southern, you'll probably say "Lawd, have mercy"! Either way, it's beautiful! Thank you!
There's a live version he did a few years ago with Ringo Starr and His All Star Band and his voice sounds exactly the same. It's like 40 years later and the guy still sounds perfect!
This is one of my favorite songs. It was recorded in the RCA studios, which was one of the premiere recording studios of its time. That’s the reason this recording sounds amazing.
Great 80's tune and their follow up to 'Broken Wings.' The only other song of theirs that really charted was 'Is This Love?' from their follow up album.
Hey beautiful folks! What a joy watching you both as always, Please look at your reactions between 4:40 and 5:30! Just great 50 seconds of real joy! God bless you both!!
When you hear the passion in that soaring voice, realizing he's crying out to the Lord, the song rises to an entirely new level. Lord have mercy indeed!
One of the songs of my childhood. Richard Page (lead vocals/bass) was already a session musician for Quincy Jones, composing music for Michael Jackson and a slew of others. Along with Steve George, they both wrote one hell of an album in "Welcome to the Real World." I know that funk hit you right in your soul at 3:29 !!

I always get goosebumps when I hear this song, solely because of Richard Page's voice. Also "Kir-ē-ˌā" and "I-ˈli-zhən" is the pronunciation of the repeated phrase. 🙃
TYVM for extrapolating on the pronouncing❤️🔥
I thought it was Hebrew El( God)
(Ison) Gods Son.
I’m just learning this stuff
Oh goodness, such nostalgia with this song! Those of us who grew up with this music didn't quite realize how good of an era we were witnessing firsthand. Well, okay, we knew it, but I don't think we realized it wouldn't last forever. And it didn't. This fave from Mr. Mister exemplifies that feeling.
I have loved this song since I first heard it as a kid in the 80s. It is the epitome of timeless music and such a brilliant song. I really enjoyed how much you seem to like it.
Great reaction. Love this tune back in the '80s in high school. Now after all these years, reading the comments now I know what the title means 🙏😂
It's from our Latin Mass. Lord have mercy.
It’s actually Greek.
Fantastic song and band. This hits a spot that defines a generation. The song brings back memories of high school. Love it!
Haven't heard that song in years! And what a hoot watching you two enjoy it. Thank you...
AMEN y'all KYRIE - Praise Christ forever and ever to the Glory of God the Father!! AMEN 🙌✝👑
I grew up in the 80's. In my opinion, it was the greatest time. The best movies and music! And best Broadway shows! I'm blessed to have grown up in that era!
same!
Man you know you are both into it when you just automatically start clapping like you’re in the crowd of the live session! Very cool
Literally tears in my eyes. The song has always been a banger. There were three big hits off this Album if I remember right "Welcome to the Real World". Bless that whole decade with the massive variety of popular music that blew up in those 10 years...
I love that you described the song as "powerful" even before you knew what it meant. 💖
One of the best songs ever written, and a highlight of the 80s...so powerful...
When you listen to like this you really appreciate how intricate the key changes and how beautifully written this song is.
And he still sounds great today!
@@aaronmannofcar4036 he does!
Pat Mastellotto's (sp?) drums on this song are absolutely thunderous.
Yes, definitely college days, pretty sure I was still in the dorm.
He did this song when I saw “Ringo’s All-Starr Band” recently!
Grew up with this song on the Billboard charts and still listen to it to this day. So many gems came out of that era. Ya'lls heads bobbing to this tune is just an indication that its a moving tune for sure!
I have always ❤❤❤❤❤ 'd this song!! The power and beauty... not to mention the meaning!!
MR. MISTER HAD ONE OF THE BEST LEAD GUITARIST & WE ALL KNOW THE LEAD SINGER IS SECOND TO NONE!!!! LOVE THIS GROUP
We didn’t know back in the 80’s this was actually a Christian Rock song!
No we didn’t.As a kid growing up in the 80’s I thought he was singing about a woman. What a brilliant song though & with deeply religious undertones 👍
The original music is more of a chant. Mister Mister simply updated it for a new generation.
Catholic kids knew
Choir kids knew
I am both.
Amber & Jordan, U guys have a great laughter. God Bless
This is what growing up with great music was all about. Loved it.
This song reminds me of my mom🥲❤
I miss her. She was a dancer/choreographer and she used to dance to this. I enjoyed watching her. She looked so happy with this song ❤
The chorus is a prayer I sing with all my heart and a smile on my face. Gorgeous.
This song makes me happy and I still listen to it today!!
"Carry a laser." I still can't hear it as anything else. 🤣
You two are the coolest couple. We love your reactions!!
Richard Page has amazing pipe, saw him tour with Ringos all star band
The 80s this magical bubble of great music , watching the youngins react , love, memorized by the greatest decade of music ever is humbling.
By now, you know they're saying "Lord have mercy" or if you are southern, you'll probably say "Lawd, have mercy"! Either way, it's beautiful! Thank you!
YES!!! I've sent you this request a couple of different ways because I KNEW you both would LOVE it!!! So glad to see you get to this one!
Two more great songs from this amazing album, 'Is It Love' (the third single) and 'Don't Slow Down'.
They weren’t around very long. One of bands that had a few hit songs and just faded away. I do like all their songs.
Great 80's tune and their follow up to 'Broken Wings.'
The only other song of theirs that really charted was 'Is This Love?' from their follow up album.
Great song; and fantastic band in concert😁🎶🎶
Hey beautiful folks! What a joy watching you both as always, Please look at your reactions between 4:40 and 5:30! Just great 50 seconds of real joy! God bless you both!!
The 80's was the greatest time for music ever
It would have been nice to have you two back in the eighties; you would have fit right in at the big concerts, getting into the music with the band!!
So glad you did this video...loved the behind the scenes shots...such a great band
