- Moving footage shows the moment a chimpanzee who was used for laboratory research sees the sky for the first time.
Vanilla, a 28-year-old chimpanzee, spent many years in a biomedical research facility in New York where animals were housed in cages suspended from the ground.
She was rescued by a wildlife sanctuary in 1995 and had to be re-homed when it closed in 2019.
Vanilla has finally been moved to an open sanctuary with a three-acre island to explore.

It’s disgusting that this animal lost 28 years in a lab. It breaks my heart.
Your ppl did it
@@QuezzH76Dsorry, but that would include you - you are a HUMAN, and humans do horrible things. Do not elevate yourself above anyone else.
Yes you are spot on, Humans can be unbelievably cruel and horrible. Let’s hope he lives the rest of his life with enjoyment of sum type of freedom 😢
Humans are not native to this world.
@@QuezzH76D😏 I thought the same thing.
I cannot describe the joy I feel for this animal I wish every creature in the world should be able to live in environment that is comfortable to them. My love to all creatures great and small❤️
Including us!!!
Well said. You must be vegan 👍
It literally makes me sick to my stomach on how these beautiful animals are treated 😢
Love how the other is tapping him like, "hey brother, I've got more to show you." Glad he's out of the lab. Geeze. What a life.
*her
Literally made me sob. These creatures are so intelligent and beautiful and yet they are tortured for so long. 28 years without seeing the sky or feeling the grass, it’s horrific and to know there are more animals experiencing this and worse. I’m happy she’s free now but it hurts that she ever had to suffer in the first place.
super off-topic, but is your pfp 2d from gorillaz?
@@decimatethestars yes :)
@@hannahbull good taste omg gorillaz is one of my hyperfixations
@@decimatethestars yes they’re one of my all time favorite bands, I actually have a tattoo of murdoc lol
This brought immediately me to tears. First--- all those years kept inside. Second --+ realizing the feelings of this creature finally getting to be free to do what he wanted. I don't know the reason for keeping him inside all those years. May this be a reminder to all of us that eventually we will all be free to enjoy having some freedom.
The harm you inflict to other things comes back to you in time.
That's why literally everyone dies.
@@robotx9285 We all have to" take one for the team" so to speak huh? : )
It's hard to believe that any human could be so heartless to treat anything like that. Makes me cry my eyes out thinking about it.
Sending Vanilla a huge virtual hug! The look on her face when she saw the sky broke my heart, because the awe she felt should not have been preceeded by 28 years of cruelty. If only those other humans could have been as kind as the ones running this shelter. 💔
Same here...when I saw that look on her face!!! I cried..😢, like the one with the female gorilla..when she got her baby back after a day..in a blanket..the action when she saw his arm through the blanket...
This is heartbreaking beyond my capacity to describe.
I’m glad she will be happy for the rest of her life ❤
My heart just broke but then I remembered that they’re are now people who are taking care of these animals ❤😢thanks they should be with their family and their kind. I hope they will continue to receive love compassion kindness and the freedom they desperately need to feel. Happiness is the key. ❤️🙏🏼❤️
The emotion in these creatures is incredible, it’s criminal the way they get treated and used. When will the world wake up and do better?
Exactly what I was thinking, why is this still happening in this day? Its Cruel! Happy to see him free ❤
When it's easier, more expedient, and more fun than torturing living things, maybe?
Do we know why she was used for research or what research she was used for? Do we know the experiments that were done on her or the treatment she faced? Sounds like we're jumping to way too many conclusions without knowing anything but a headline, not to excuse the fact that she's never been outside before
The person responsible for depriving him of his freedom will face difficult inquiries during the day of reckoning
No such thing. You die you die. Stop it with the little guy in the sky
@@alanmartins6349 Primarily, may I inquire about your belief in the existence of God? What has led you to believe that mistreatment and injustice towards vulnerable animals are morally acceptable? Whether one believes it or not, it is crucial to acknowledge that there will be underlying repercussions for our actions on the day of judgment.
The FOOL says in his heart, "there is no God."
@shannonlandre4442 I kindly request that he engage in some research regarding God.
If you don’t shed a tear after watching this video you don’t have a heart
OM the sweet Vanilla had too many years locked up 😢 the horrible things she must have suffered. Be loved a feel free Vanilla
Heartbreaking that humans made this beautiful being suffer for 28 years but, heartwarming for the future they will have❤️💞🌺
What is the narrative here ? Fluff and sunshine dust? Turning such a horrible plight into a fluffy video is obscene.
We think that, as human beings we just control everything, including the other animals that walk this earth… I think that, until we learn to control ourselves, we should let the others be
Our ancestors have obviously done so very awful things to other people and animals and its so very obvious. We put politics and guns in front of what really matters, boy if the trees and animals could talk , along with black people in slavery and Natives both here and aboriginal in Australia , boy oh boy we would be so under
I hope it wont be like that but watching this beautiful creature and the way it responds to life , I just dont know what we are in for. Yes , the drugs and crime is all part of the karma
NOBODY has ANY business trying to control ANYTHING or ANYBODY.....WTF are you talking about
@@starseyes2696just think how these MFers would act without any guns.....the biggest strongest and meanest would be telling you wtf to do right now
My heart literally melted watching this ❤❤
So amazing to see and feel their emotions towards being free! To see the amazement of Gods beauty in the sky is a gift to us all!
You mean nature's beauty.
I don't see nothing amazing in this horse a Taxis animals had to go through this is a disgusting video but people need to see it cuz that's how people humans really are they don't care who they hurt her how they hurt them
The thing that warms my heart so much is that they kept him captive for even longer to get cameras and media set up. Never miss a great moment😊

@@tobyjackman3212 don't force your gender conformities on him. If I see them as male, that's my right to. You MAGA people will never respect someone who decides to be a gender that doesn't fit with YOUR agenda.
Wait til he feels the freedom of pissing into the wind! 🌬

❤ Life is so sacred❤
Absolutely heartbreaking
I agree. Some gullible people are calling this "heartwarming" I find such a perspective obscenely superficial given that the damage is done. It's amazing how video editing with tranquil music can try to set the narrative to good vibes rather than outrage. Heartwarming is the feeling you get when you open the barn up and let the fowls out for the day; definitely not the feeling you get for letting a damaged animal out that served more time than some murderers.
Incredible heart warming. These creatures are more human in their emotions than we know ❤
Well that makes sense if the same intelligent creator made us as he made the animals that we would have some traits that are similar but there's still a HUGE gap between humans and animals/apes. Apes don't ask "why" ageing....wrinkles....etc etc
So True
@@natevm7888how can you be sure they don't wonder why?
Heartbreaking... glad to see she will live a better life now
Tears filled my eyes for animals used in labs. It was also beautiful his reaction

Vanilla was rescued in 1995 by a Wild Life Sanctuary. So the Wild Life Sanctuary housed her for 24 of those years in a place where she could not see sunlight. Glad that Sanctuary closed, but it makes you wonder about Wildlife Sanctuaries.
Do you know what country the sanctuary was like n?
No, all of this information is in the article just below the film. He was experimented on in New York upstate somewhere so I would assume the sanctuary was somewhere in the US.
We need to be spiritually transformed. Science without moral principles is monstrous. How heartbreaking!
No need to complain about anything because this is better than any petty stuff going on in my life. Thank you for this.❤
Tears filled my eyes and breaks my heart that animals are used in labs. His reaction was so priceless an d beautiful
Made my cry xxx
Me too, because the damage is done and 28 years is more than some murderers get. Turning such a plight into a fluffy video is obscene.
God bless those who's compassion extends not only to others of their species, but to any living thing in need. I have issues with chimpanzees, they freak me out, always have, but seeing how this creature reacted to every new thing, was deeply touching. Even the other chimps seemed to understand the gravity of their friend's experience. 🤔😮🥺🙂💔❤️
human cruelty towards life shows it's ugly head once again !! the fact that they hugged each other when seeing the sky proves Dr.Goodall's point.... they have feelings too !!!
So happy for them … new family were very inviting and kind
So sad..😢, why are we doing this to them..all lives matter.
"All lives matter".
You're right they do. Testing on these animals has saved countless lives. Its sad, but we have a lot of the medical tech we have now because of animal testing first.
I understand that human lives have been saved because of animal testing, but I still find myself very uncomfortable with the concept. It appears that there is little value placed on the lives of other creatures and an absence of compassion. What kind of testing required that Vanilla be locked away indoors for 28 years, and even after rescue, be separated from others in her group? I am deeply saddened.
The world is ran by sadists who believe in molach and who hunt people for sport in their private lands all over the world, it's the reason why you see all these symbols and imagery everywhere you look because it's all connected, look up how many people go missing every year, look up the 2016 south Korean president scandal, look up who owns all these companies today....we are ruled by Tyrants...we live in hell.
It's like he said "WOW!" Priceless.
Why use these wonderful intelligent chimps in labs when we have so many paedophiles in prison use them instead
And Politicians

This made me cry . Poor animals .
Animals don't belong in Labs . This is so nice to see God bless the person who help rescue this beautiful chimpanzee
Simply beautiful nuff said
This is the most beautiful thing I see today 💯🙏🏽
I literally broke down crying as I watched
Poor thing breaks my heart 💔 she deserves a better life
Absolutely priceless 💕💕💕
This is very sad and also relieving to see the chimps reaction.
Our species subjected her to cruelty and so much pain 😢

I’m so happy for him, finally free

Beautiful.
What we have done to our mammal friends is Disgusting and should be stopped...what can we do! My heart breaks but so glad he can live the rest in peace..
Great moment. This poor chimp looks so happy 😢
So beautiful but so sad 😢
I have watched this many times it is so moving.
Surely there is no beast as cruel as human beings.
As I feel the tears roll from my face watching this beautiful creature roam , socialize and see the world, my tears continue knowing how horrible it must be to be caged and only for research. Not how it was intended, animals to be treated like she was nor something I could do to an animal.
The way that chimp hit the other on the shoulder like “hey, check this out!”
I'm happy and also pissed. This is just cruel 😢
This has me in tears. No animal should ever have to live in a cage it’s whole life and the people responsible for that will answer to their maker one day soon. And before anyone starts with the crap of research is needed to save human lives answer me this what makes your life more important I’ll answer for you not one damn thing. Remember this….the most dangerous animal in the world is the human. The only thing people need to learn from an animal is how to love, live and treat others plan and simple. You poor baby I’m so glad you got to see the sky and you get to live your life out from this point in knowing safety and love and be with family. I wish I could hug you and tell you it’s alright now your going to be fine
The other chimp like "You can see real good over here!"😊❤
Poor 😢 chimp thank goodness he was rescued bless all ❤
*she
Omg Vanilla, I know you were whising this moment. I am still thinking of you guys. I said one time that grass it could be the first thing , but I saw now how you guys are living. It is not a dream anymore, no more brainless people thinking that you guys were just animals. It looks like Gordo is happier 😊
😢 they are so sensible and sweet we are monsters
Makes me ashamed to be called human!! I'm so happy these poor chimps can finally live like they was intended to even if they are not all the way free, just being outside and with other chimps is probably the best they have ever had in their whole lives! Respect to those who fight for our voiceless out there.
28 effin years, can they at least bring some sort of standards where this is totally illegal, there could at least be a maximum amount of time, or they should be forced to have decent enclosures with outdoor spaces, disgusting, whats even worse is they are not all for medical benefits, many animals are there to test crap like lab made novid viruses
That's awful, nothing should have to be confined to a cage like that. I'm glad she's finally free.
Heartbreaking the way we treat animals 😢
😢💞
theres got to b a better way than put any creature thru the things mankind does to them. my heart goes put to each and everyone
Makes you wonder how far past our own cage/ceiling WE actually see.
I'm fairly certain we are basically lobsters at the bottom of the ocean looking up wondering wtf a fishing boat is.
At 5 seconds, it's like she gasps and says waoohhh
This is how happy Boosie was when the feds let him out
This is soooo sad😢
I hope that chimp gets some deserved happiness back in its life hopefully for a long time to come
😢so sad too keep any living creature behind close doors without seen his normal and beautiful habitat. Happy to see free at least.
Sad yet happy to be out
Sure can tell a lot about a society by the way they treat animals.
FACTS
Good luck Vanilla!!
Wow older than me and hasn't seen the sun til 28. mind boggling
How could we still treat a primate with heartless disregard?, Unconscionable !!.
Who ever put it there needs 28 years in a lab and see how they like ! It’s atrocious the world we live in now . God bless the chimps 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I didn't even see it look at the sky.
I actually got choked up watching this chimpanzee that's been 28 years of their life in a lab, doing something as simple as looking up at the sky.
Not only do I feel sad for this poor animal and disgusted at the fact that this poor animal had to live the majority of its life in captivity, I would love to see those who kept it in captivity endure the same fate. So sad!!!
I guess she was rescued in 95' been in a sanctuary for 24 yrs.. after 4 yrs of lab testing in NY. But what kind of sanctuary doesn't show light to a primate for 24yrs!!! Insane
This is sad what happens to these majestic animals.
Wow. Insane
Sad but happy
Where is this lab?
And we're is this lab
God bless this poor creature. It finally found freedom 🙌.
And God bless the cow that we eat that never found freedom
Why was he in there in the first place?😭💔🙏🙏🙏🙏
Im so happy this beautiful soul was rescued from hell!! I’m so grateful to those involved in making this happen. But I’m so angry that humanity is capable of the absolute monstrous acts that we all choose to ignore and turn away from because it’s hard for us to watch.
I don't understand why they just couldn't make something for them to go outside a couple hours a day people are so evil
Pitiful and saddening. 28 years .
This is so sad
The chimps expression at 7 seconds....
So saf
One of them is destined to become Caesar
When your homie finally make it to the prison yard you’re in 😂😂😂😂
Elle a eu une vie affreuse ! Pauvre petite vanilla ! J espère que sa fin de vie sera très très très heureuse et belle ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The heartless souls who kept them in captivity should be ashamed. I wouldn't want their karma in this life or the next.
28 years in a lab and don’t tell it was for Medical Science Man’s greed has no cruelty parameters
It is a horrible thing that these beautiful a animals are being used in lab research.Any animal in fact.I pray that someday this stops.
