We Went Bioluminescent Kayaking! It Was Like Real Life Pandora!! | Wild Florida Adventures

- In today's video we head over to Mims, Florida to set out on the Indian River to do some Bioluminescent Kayaking! Thank you to BK Adventures for providing us with this experience to share with you! We cast off from a boat launch located in naturally protected land owned by Kennedy Space Center! Because it is protected land the wildlife is abundant there. The main form of wildlife we were there to see was the dinoflagellates. They are a type of plankton that uses a chemical reaction call bioluminescent as a defense mechanism to scare off predators. We went out in our clear kayaks on the night of a new moon which is when the night is the darkest so we could see the bioluminescent reaction the best! All in all it was a fantastic night and a truly magical experience!

When the Kayaking guide says "I watch you on RUclips and I feel like I'm between the stars, this is amazing!" that's freaking awesome. So glad these two and the positivity they bring are able to see and hear the impact they have on others.

My wife and I did a tour similar to this in the same area last year. We vacationed in Cocoa Beach and did a sunset tour with another company. It was the coolest experience of our lives. We actually saw a gator bed where a gator had a couple of babies. We didn’t see any sharks but a couple of dolphins. Our guide said that they rarely see sharks if ever. We a dolphin was heading straight down the canal for us and then went under our kayak. My wife was freaking out. Such a cool experience. I love vacationing on the space coast!!!

Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us! My uncle has a new housing development in Orlando which has provided the extended family a place to stay there. It's SO great to learn about amazing experiences like this (that AREN'T just visiting the parks!) My partner and I were like "Oh my god, we need to do this!" And the fact that it's close to the Kennedy Space Centre is also wonderful as we'd love to see a shuttle launce one day. You just planned the perfect east coast day-trip for us!! WOW!

In Vieques, PR, I got to do the bio-luminesent tour on a boat back when ppl were allowed to SWIM on the water ( it stopped being like that in the early 2010's). It was an amazing experience. Went back a few yrs ago w my husband on a kayaking tour and we saw the Milky Way and someone saw a manta ray.
Scooping the water is like having a thousands of little stars twinkling in you hand. Beautiful.

I went to SeaWorld a couple weekends ago for the first time in about 16 years. I SWEAR I have amusement park withdrawals. So I hopped on RUclips to watch some POVs thinking it would help. Of course, I stumbled across your channel. Now I can’t stop watching all of your trips and adventures. But this one especially is close to home! I work at Sebastian Inlet State Park just south of Mims, Florida. I highly recommend, if you haven’t already, going on one of our Turtle Walks. We are full this season but each May we take reservations for June and July. I think you guys would really enjoy them! Anyway, thank you for all your great content to feed my amusement park withdrawals and also to show the importance of Environmental Protection! 😊💕

Thank you for noting the bugs! It's not something everyone would think about if they come from a non-swampy area. Disney does such a good job of keeping mosquitoes in check around their property, it's easy to forget how bad they are in other parts of Florida. My husband has a severe reaction to the obnoxious little bugs, so if we ever do this, we'll be sure to take that advice to heart!
I love it when you guys highlight some of the cool things to do off the beaten path in Florida. You balance it very well with the theme park content. It would get a little old if it was one lesser known adventure for one theme park vlog, but right now a lot of us get excited for these trips when you post them.
I cannot like this video enough! If we ever vacation in Florida outside of the theme parks this is on the top of my list!!! Thank you for sharing all the FL has to offer.

Thank you for posting this. We have wanted to do this for a long time. After seeing your video we booked with BK Adventures right away and we did it the next day, as the timing was perfect with the new moon! We had an amazing time and couldn't believe our eyes. The bioluminescence is incredible.

I did this exact tour while I was 8 months pregnant. The best part (and kind of scarey) was seeing manatees with their babies getting startled under our kyayak and giving me the ride of a lifetime. Was so beautiful.

I LOVE it when the two of you go off on little trips to non-theme park places! It's so much fun to watch. Don't get me wrong. Just saw a video of a girl on a rollercoaster and a bird flew into her head while they were up. Pretty funny but it would freak me out she still enjoyed the ride dont know if the bird did said she had a scratch and some feathers on her

My wife and I did this last year with the same tour group while visiting and it was so amazing, beautiful water when you look down and amazing star gazing when you look up! One of our best memories of florida! My sister was also there and she got hit in the face by a fish jumping out the water! 😂 Very hard to photograph the bio but if you do a long exposure it works! My husband and I did this two years ago on Merritt Island! We're Florida natives and we had never heard of it before, but it was amazing! My husband even got hit in the face with one of the jumping fish. Highly recommend!

If we did not have Pensacon up here in Pensacola. They also would make me think about moving down to Orlando or close to Orlando. It would only take about 6 to 8 hours to move down to Orlando or close to Orlando.

I've heard Puerto Rico had this but I didn't know that we had this in Florida.
I was fine until you said "maybe we see sharks". I thought " oh no..." I might have to rethink this.
When we visit PR last summer we did a walking tour and saw the bio bay from a boardwalk. I didn't know we had this just 3ish hours up the road from where we live. Laf.
We have gotten a few comments about the bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico, we might have to take a trip down there to see them!

@@TheTimTracker where we went was part of an ecotour just outside San Juan near Fajardo. They use just kayaks or walking tours. There is a bio bay in the south west also, near LA parguera. From my understanding they use boats with gas/diesel engines through out the area and it is not as good down there. YMMV.
I have been in these water as a local all my life. Never seen a shark. They are there but we mostly see alligators at beacon 42 and haulover canal
