This is a masterclass on not only how to take portraits, but how to really interact with people. There's a certain type of personality (like Omar here) that just have that moxy and can make it seem natural to connect with others, but to a lot of us (myself!) it's a challenge to get people to that comfort level where their true selves shine through. I'm 100% going to try some of these tips next time I'm grabbing shots of my family/friends, to see if I can past the usual boring poses.
I agree. Inspiring and fun! I too want to try these ideas too, also valide justification for some of the newer tech on he hardware. Super useful video, thanks OG
Best video I've seen in weeks here on the Tube. Thanks Omar, great advice. Gonna try some of this on my next family shoot. Keep up the great work!!
Incredible pictures!
You Sir, you may be the best photography-youtuber to date. So easy going, keeping it simple for us non pros and just all-round a fun guy to watch. So thanks
Love your shooting style Omar, definitely one I'd love to emulate. When people ask me who's work I admire most I point them to your videos. I'd say your images are less about your camera and more about how you interact with your clients. Thats where your real gift is. I could spend $1 million on a camera but I aint Omar and thats a fact 😉 I'll keep trying though, your tips are very helpful but I'll never have your personality skills 😋
Appreciate that.
I love how informative and straight to the point this video is. Thank you!
I am not a professional photographer, but great tips for taken family event photos.
Thank you
Great advice from the Bar Mitzvah whisperer😊
Awesome video, very helpful, thanks so much for sharing your tips, greatly appreciated,
Yes! New Omar video! Click so fast :D
I found this tutorial very useful !!! Thanks !!!
Excellent insights and tips. Cool pictures. I will try them . Thank you!
Great video, very insightful ❤ I'm a beginner in photography and struggle at the moment with the proper settings on my Fuji xt-30ii for dynamic portraits. If anyone has any tips I'll be very grateful 😊
LMAO.. the little bits of candy it's whats saved me SO MANY TIMES.. oh god.. gummys, candies, lollipops... and also BUBBLES.. toddlers LOVE bubbles.. and you can also use bubbles on the pictures as well.. so i usually always have a bubble stick at hand when doing photos with little kids as well
Defo helpful, Omar! Thanks, and well done thinking of this subject for us.
Amazing tips here, thank you! So much value here in a fun and succinct way. Also, your images are absolutely spectacular!
Thank you !
This video is truly helpful, as I am trying to get better at shooting portraits, the tips you give on how to interact with your subjects are key. I love how you give specific tips on how to interact with children as they just have so much energy.
Fantastic photos and fantastic advice! Thank you!
Omar - this was so helpful. I know you have done several videos on using flash but I was hoping you could do a video on the whole process from set up to edit. Are you adding a matted process to the background of your photos - or is that the Nikon doing its magic?
You said you’re shooting single shot… as opposed to continuous? Why is that? I use Sony a74. Is there an advantage to using single shot? Thanks! Love your videos.
Thank you Omar, I'm not a professional photographer but can use your valuable tips when shooting family portraits!
Excellent advice 😎 🇧🇻
Very helpful video. Thanks Omar!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, what do you think about the XT20 in 2023? I can get one used for 600
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This was so helpful. It’s almost as if you were this… professional photographer or something.
So great, Omar. Some fantastic photos.
Lots of good info here. Great job Omar.
Wow Omar, I believe this video is about you, the goofball photographer 😂 very helpful tips 🎉
It’s such a pleasure to watch your videos. Not only from a photographic perspective, but you give more than you verbally say. There’s more to the picture than meets the eye.
It seems you just like people and have a great sense of humour. Thanks and greetings from Nuremberg, Germany.
Good Talk....
Thanks Coach...
You're the best!
Thanks. This helps.
Great advice !!!
Abbey Road.
Nice video
Fantastic portraits! Wow! I've never seen before such dynamic movement from subjects! Beautiful lighting as well!!!
Your best TIPP is "safe stuff first", I like your style on Photographies, whenever you visit Germany let’s have a Koffee altogether
Excellent advice. Terrific sample photos. You make it look effortless, which it is not.
Thank you so much for sharing. Love your content and presentation. Keep shining your light.
When you started talking about the hands i immediately thought of Zach Arias, and then you said you got the tip from him! that was so cool, i have used that so many times 😃
You are my absolute favourite content creator!
Hi Omar, watching from Germany, I just bumped on your channel 1 month ago (Have to catch up a LOT of videos). Thank you very much for this and the other videos you share. As a family, holiday, event and sports hobby-photographer your tips are very helpful. Especially videos about posing and understanding light helped me to understand, why some of my photos are good and others could be much better. Looking forward for the next video you share. Great Work!!
I think the skipping is the coolest idea, I love the first one you showed!
Great advice as always and I love the shot of the dad and little girl at 08:58 - There’s just something about the wonderful connection between a father and his daughter that you’ve caught there Omar.
Fantastic advice as usual ...thank you
Brilliant video, chock full of useable information. Thanks, Omar, for sharing some of your secret sauce!
I just love this video. I’m about to shoot a wedding for the first time so this very helpful for me. Thx, you are the best 🫶🏼
As always - very useful Tipps, Omar, but as usual I wonder how you create your very special, awesome light-setting, the WB etc., most flash? Uwe , Germany
Secret lighting sauce... hmm
Thanks Omar, some good tips yet again! When I do portraits sessions I tend to use the phrase "hand dance". All of them know how dancing looks, so (I tell them) do some slow dance but just with your hands - by putting them variously on your hair, cheeks, neck, piece of clothing, etc. It usually works very well!
When I do event sessions and want to have get some dynamic look, I have listed some of my strategies here. So I tell the group (when posing) to give me a count of 3 one of the following:
- random look (quickly choose a random person to look at)
- show some joy
- imagine you've just won a lottery
- your look for a cover of a magazine (specify: fashion magazine, Forbes, etc.)
- "hero" look
- your cool look at work (teacher, sales person, singer, etc.)
- unique pose (do sth no one else is doing)
- talk to each other
Etc.
Of course, as you said, it's often about the reactions (laughter) they give you after (!) they strike these poses :)
Great tips! Thanks!
Hey Omar! We love you!
