This is a masterclass on not only how to take portraits, but how to really interact with people. There's a certain type of personality (like Omar here) that just have that moxy and can make it seem natural to connect with others, but to a lot of us (myself!) it's a challenge to get people to that comfort level where their true selves shine through. I'm 100% going to try some of these tips next time I'm grabbing shots of my family/friends, to see if I can past the usual boring poses.

Love your shooting style Omar, definitely one I'd love to emulate. When people ask me who's work I admire most I point them to your videos. I'd say your images are less about your camera and more about how you interact with your clients. Thats where your real gift is. I could spend $1 million on a camera but I aint Omar and thats a fact 😉 I'll keep trying though, your tips are very helpful but I'll never have your personality skills 😋

Omar - this was so helpful. I know you have done several videos on using flash but I was hoping you could do a video on the whole process from set up to edit. Are you adding a matted process to the background of your photos - or is that the Nikon doing its magic?

You said you’re shooting single shot… as opposed to continuous? Why is that? I use Sony a74. Is there an advantage to using single shot? Thanks! Love your videos.

Hi Omar, watching from Germany, I just bumped on your channel 1 month ago (Have to catch up a LOT of videos). Thank you very much for this and the other videos you share. As a family, holiday, event and sports hobby-photographer your tips are very helpful. Especially videos about posing and understanding light helped me to understand, why some of my photos are good and others could be much better. Looking forward for the next video you share. Thanks Omar, some good tips yet again! When I do portraits sessions I tend to use the phrase "hand dance". All of them know how dancing looks, so (I tell them) do some slow dance but just with your hands - by putting them variously on your hair, cheeks, neck, piece of clothing, etc. It usually works very well!
When I do event sessions and want to have get some dynamic look, I have listed some of my strategies here. So I tell the group (when posing) to give me a count of 3 one of the following:
    - random look (quickly choose a random person to look at)
    - show some joy
    - imagine you've just won a lottery
    - your look for a cover of a magazine (specify: fashion magazine, Forbes, etc.)
    - "hero" look
    - your cool look at work (teacher, sales person, singer, etc.)
    - unique pose (do sth no one else is doing)
    - talk to each other
    Etc.
Of course, as you said, it's often about the reactions (laughter) they give you after (!) they strike these poses :)
