I actually called my abusive grandmother and thanked her a few weeks ago. I told her "Thank you for showing me who I do not want to be." I told her that the mental and psychological abuse that she did to me made me strong enough to help others in my situation. I told her that without her I probably wouldn't have gone into my profession. The disdain she showed for my disabilities only made me want to fight harder for those with them.

I’ve learned there are basically two types of people in this world: hurt people who hurt others and hurt people who heal others. Glad you could overcome. At first I thought this song was only about intimate relationships so nice to know I’m not alone in clinging to some of the words for other kinds of broken familial relationships.
This hit really close to home. I've been held hostage in an extremelly toxic relationship. Manipulated, cheated on, lied to constantly, physically abused. I've developed quite a few psychological issues, started getting panic attacks. After I managed to break loose, I thought that I will always be a husk of a man that doesn't need nor deserve love. It started getting better, I've worked on myself and started getting better just to mess with that person, that believed she destroyed me. Now I'm happy with who I am, got a beautiful and caring wife and now my life is finally at peace. This song empowers the motivation to believe in yourself. To anyone reading this, remember - you're awesome, you're loved and you deserve all the best.

From someone who got through 10+ years of bullying (that went onto death threats and repeated sexual assault that could have been prevented as i went to speak to someone in charge of the school but who couldn't care less), I feel you.

This song makes me think about my childhood and how awful my father was, this song makes me have a slight god complex every time I listen to it. Takes that feeling of hopelessness and turns it into a sort of pride. That I survived something that could’ve completely destroyed me. I came across this song by accident and wow, where was this band in my life?! This is such a fantastic song, I love it so much! The lyrics themselves are just so meaningful and hit you right in the face, then there's the flow of the lyrics. I love the sound of this song, the instrumentals and the way the lyrics are sung are just, so perfect. It's kind of difficult to describe how great this is. I hear the first few seconds and I just couldn't help but listen with all my attention. I feel like this will be a song I come to when I feel down.

For 18 years, my abusive, toxic, narcissistic Aunt lived with my mom, dad and me and we only got her out of our life a couple of years ago after she tried to kill my mom. I've lived most my life dealing with a narcissistic abusive toxic brother, he seemingly lived his whole life to just push me down and always be on top. Through him I learned not to be so forgiving, I still have dreams about him and such. But I'm moving on to be the best version of myself that I can be, this band is amazing.. I know the feeling of betrayal. 2 guys I knew for 6 years turned on me in freshman year of high school, they sided with the headmaster's son who bullied me throughout the entire year. I've had to carry their barbed, rusted knives in my spine for 11 years. 11 fucking years! the very mention of their names awakens my rage and I still remember their full names and faces. I will probably hold onto that grudge forever.

It's so powerful, and passionate, and I think the guitar, and the drums really compliment the story that is told through these lyrics, and how the vocals work so well. It really makes you want to go out there, and prove the world wrong about everything that it's ever said about you, and it's extremely inspiring! Coming from experience of getting pushed down and beaten by others both mentally and physically all the way up to high school this is one of those songs that keep me from making a decision that I would never be able to take back. Me and my sister are both survivors of suicide and it's hard to imagine what those that loved us would've thought if we died.

You have no idea how much I relate to this song. I was diagnosed with autism when I was four, and so many people told me and my mom that I would never accomplish anything, and I would be worthless. But now, I'm 21, I have my GED, I'm working on getting my first book published, working two jobs (technically three with the book), I'm riding the bus too and from work, and now, I'm working on getting my endowment and going on my mission. When I heard this song, I could just picture myself walking down a street with a huge smile on my face with this song playing, and everyone who ever doubted me, in complete shock. this has made me feel better about my situation, I live on a reservation in Montana, and there's a fire behind my house about 5 miles away, and 2 other ones around the town, another town already evacuated, and my family and I are doing our best to hold up, and the lights turned off, but recently can back on today, your guys' music lives my spirits when I'm down, thank you for all that you do.

After a much heated argument with my family and being the black sheep outcast of my family for years, they really hated it when I played this song for all of them to hear and walking away from the party right after. Made them realize they treated me wrong and me realize I'm better off without them and the drama they create. All they have is my past to talk about as they don't know my present and future.

Amazing! This song hit me a different way, knowing how much I hated myself a while ago, now becoming more happy as I work on myself and make myself stronger each day. I haven't suffered from a mental illness or abusive behavior, but I can still relate to this song. Just a few years ago I have always tried to make it right for everyone and I feel like that has changed now. I have encountered toxicity in my life, especially in my past relationships. Nothing extremely bad to be fair. I still learned a lot from it though. Nowadays I am so much better at keeping toxic people at a distance and realizing what I want in life. I think that wouldn't be the case if I didn't make those experiences. It made me the person I am today, so for me the song transports a really empowering message.
“Thank you for hating me” is a quote i did not expect to relate so much. Like…how can i explain it…
To me, hate to me is like a motivation to keep on. Something i always do since i was 7 years old. Irritating my fellow classmates really was making me feel free, even though by that time i didn’t understood what “freedom” actually was, until i decided to close in myself at the age of 10. By doing this i stared - little by little - to finally understand what freedom is. I know this is not a good example, but still
Feeling hated by others is my motivation to keep pushing myself to the psychological limits. And look where i am now:
I graduated with almost perfect at high school, but got rejected by the college i wanted to be in. Now, all i want is to be better not with studies, but with experience from…anything!

I found these songs when I was at my lowest and they have encouraged me to find help and get out of the same rut I have been in for years. When I was diagnosed with diabetes “I’m not okay” was the song that made me accept the fact that it’s okay to not be okay
