Ouch! Just keep in mind the goal. It will be a standout for sure. Thanks for making this and showing us the pitfalls, very much appreciated. Thanks for the tips and the part numbers also.
Hi just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you and the work that you do and your amnesty hang in there looks beautiful I learned a lot from you thank you from an other Mustang intusiast Emilio Fernandez from Rialto California
I feel your pain...painted hood three times now...first with clear...and it bubbled...now twice with matt...need to repaint...ran out of paint on last strip so it was blotchy....and the door is a repaint...and the color was off...will get a shop to match to see if I can just paint door...
It happens Barry, been in the refinishing industry for 30yrs and yes I have had the same thing happen. Sun gun is the way to go all right. Jade looks great tho. And will be even more stunning with next coats 👍😎
I have had great success with two stage paints by fogging the final base coat because that evens everything out. Also you could be more consistent with your paint gun, meaning you could to be much closer to the surface, around 6 inches, when spraying. It is not done until you are happy with the results.
WOW!! Sad, but it happens. Truly appreciate your work no matter what slips and slides may happen. I’ll be squirting the paint on my rig also. It will be more of a sage green when it comes time. I’d like to show you pictures of what I started with and where I’m at now. It sure is a slow process. If you would like to see them, let me know how to show you. Mine is a 65 Ranchero. Well anyway, continue your good work. I’ll continue watching.
Looks really awesome it’s a bummer to re shoot but at least now coverage will be easy. I suggest using the soft edge tape technique in your jambs vs. the foam tape. In my experience the foam leaves a harsher line. With the soft edge if you bring it back about an 1/8” into the jamb it will melt in almost perfect.
Great attitude. It is what it is. Overall the car looks amazing, you’ll be happy once you get it done and it looks right. I’ve had to redo stuff before and the second time usually turns out even better. Keep us posted Barry!
@@JoDaddysGarage I am not certain what you mean? Can you put the "sun gun" model info in a future video? Other question is why wear a respirator when buffing? Never seen anyone doing that before. Also as others have said besides this setback car is coming together nicely.
Lots of great information and work .Overcoming problems is part of the process. Thanks for sharing all as a learning experience. I am sure it will look exceptional in the end .
same thing happened to me painting an mitsi outlander looked great in the shed but outside i saw a big light patch where i hadnt applied enough coverage
I've found that using a razor blade on runs and dirt nibs helps in the long run. Yes it is scary to think about on fresh paint but could use 800 to start with and not worry about burn through with buffing.
I also sometimes use 600,then go over it with a black sharpie, then go with 1000 until all sharpie paint is gone, then I sharpie it one more time ,use 1500 ,then jump into 3000 trizact.
Barry...I believe a do over is a little overkill. Blending is a fine process....I’d give that a try first before tackling the whole car. Good luck either way...
Well, I can’t take the chance of a mismatch at this point. I also have a few small flaws that I would normally let go. This gives me the chance to fix those too.
Sux you have to start again, but hey, even the best painters don't get it right every time! One hint to sanding runs, is to put a light coat of putty over it & sand that, blocks flat every time.
Barry. Are going to just reshoot the door, or the whole car? Also. I’m wondering if you will address the vents that go on the car behind the doors? If it’s a 67’ I thought they were inserted into the quarter panel. My 68’ just has the small trim in the area.
Car looks awesome. Too bad about the light spot on the door. Did you paint it with door on fender off? I have been told its better to paint whole car together as you can get shade difference.
Consider just re-shoot the inserts on both sides, maybe with fade to front? I know...pissed the F---OFF, and people this stuff is FUN, EASY, yeah, try it.
Mine are going to be different. This rearend is pretty narrow. My spacers are 1.25". The rearend is from a 59 ford or mercury station wagon. narrower than the original mustang.
May I watch your videos if there's a way I can get ahold of you I have a bunch of tips I used to work for Carroll Shelby worked on half-million-dollar vehicles I have a bunch of tips I can share with you
@@JoDaddysGarage maybe a guest for Monday ? My heart dropped when you said "low spot in the clear" never thought about that as I know I too will have to wet sand
It's painful to watch knowing you are going to repaint the car... Somewhere I have some of those little file type tools that you can use to remove the runs. They worked Ok but would load up easily.
That's why Dr.Bob uses Laquer, easy to match🚩🏁
All I can say it can be stressful way to make a living.Hats off to the guys that do it everyday.
It may be redundant but a man's got to do what a man's got to do.
Even though you have to respray the prep work has paid off. The finish look great.
Don't be hard on yourself Barry, ....It looks great !
Man that’s harsh!! But, like my ole pappy used to say, “if it were easy everyone would have one”. Keep up the great work.
I hate do-overs too Jo Daddy! I didn't like my work and tore the car apart and started over. Gotta do what you gotta do. You got it Jo!

Tough break! I'd cry.

Wow, sad news but thanks for the video!
Really tough seeing this. A lot of good work has gone into the project.
Correct. If it were final assembled it would match perfectly.

I'd Shoot the door and front fender from bodyline down. Again LOOKS GREAT !!!!!!

hi barry looking good
Just put a large Jo Daddy's Garage sticker on the door!
I wish you to get the best result when you respray your gorgeous Mustang.
Well that's a huge bummer 🥺
I did a car for Gladys Knight's husband William. A General Lee for Paul Casey I had a touch up period and Tony Stewart

Whole car. Not taking any chances on mismatch. Mine is a 68. Not adding the trim pieces.
The drivers side fender doesnt line up with the door.
Car looks awesome. Too bad about the light spot on the door. Did you paint it with door on fender off? I have been told its better to paint whole car together as you can get shade difference.
Fender was on car when painted.
Bummer. Afraid if it happened to me there would be some body damage to repair before repaint.
Consider just re-shoot the inserts on both sides, maybe with fade to front? I know...pissed the F---OFF, and people this stuff is FUN, EASY, yeah, try it.
Not taking any chances on mismatch. It has to be right.
What size wheel spacers and wheels are you using

have you already repainted the bad spots??
I'm doing the whole car again.
yes barry it is green
if you are going to do it all over why did you buff out and not just wet sand it with 600 and respray it?
I didn't see the flaw in the booth.
They look more like very small fish eyes
I will paint just side of it.

Bummer Barry but I understand why you’re respraying it.
you can make a sun gun from blacker decker drill. go over to frieman164 you tube and he shows you how to do it and it works. I made one.
