Oh my god, when you said that Mario 64 was released only 8 years before 64DS, that broke me for a second. 64DS is now a TWENTY YEAR OLD GAME.

I honestly think it's sweet that Nintendo had Leslie Swan voice Peach again in this game (with the added alternate voice lines), even though they had another voice actress typically used for Peach by that point - it adds to the charm of the remake imo

Forgot the drawing mode on the main menu screen, the black bricks broken by wario, the fact the invis cap and metal cap were split between luigi and wario, as well as Yoshi's fire ability, the many more rabbits added to the game, the keys they drop to unlock minigames, the minigames, the multiplayer mode. The level to unlock mario as well as the new boss fight the king goomba, as well as the fight to unlock luigi and wario. A lot forgotten here.

Ah, I'm early enough that no one else already told you about it. New Super Mario Bros was actually made after this game so the Mushroom Powerup came first and was almost certainly the inspiration for the Mega Mushroom.
Similarly NSMB reused a decent amount of assets such as Models, Sound Effects and even Music. A lot of the Minigames were also reused.
A neat thing about DS' Credits is that Luigi and Wario only appear if you rescued them, same with their Cake Toppers. If you only rescue Mario (as he's required without glitches) then only he and Yoshi show up at the end.
Without going into various glitches & fixes, I think you covered all the main differences except pointing out that DS combined all of the Cap Powers into a Flower that affects characters differently. Luigi gets the Vanish power and Wario gets the Metal power. Mario gets the new Balloon power while the Wing Cap is a separate Powerup that only Mario can use but still the same Red ? Block. I bring this up because it means the Blue & Green Cap Switches were removed in DS so the only reason to find their areas is for more Stars instead of gaining new abilities like in the Original Game.
Oh wait, since you brought up new stuff you forgot the new Levels & Bosses that were added for rescuing Mario, Luigi & Wario.
    Good video nonetheless. 👍

0:29 If you touch Mario's/Yoshi's head on the title screen it'll turn into a sketch with 6 options and you can even draw something yourself
    0:43 It's not a sequel it's a remake
1:17 You forgot to mention that you start the game as Yoshi while Mario needs to be rescued to be playable (and the same goes for Luigi and Wario as well)
1:24 You can't see Luigi's and Wario's heads on the title screen only Mario's and Yoshi's heads can be seen on the title screen (Luigi's head only appears on the title screen if you touch Mario's head for the third time in a row)
4:47 Mario only says "So long, Bowser" in the American version of the original (he doesn't in Super Mario 3D All-Stars)
5:00 The brick blocks not only contain Super Mushrooms (which is a rare moment) but they also contain but they also give coins and show secrets to help you get more Power Stars and Luigi and Wario can also break the brick blocks with the same outcomes
5:07 The brick blocks are the redesigned version of the originals blocks and New Super Mario Bros (2006) was released 2 years after the remake so if anything New Super Mario Bros (2006) took inspiration from Super Mario 64 DS (I can go on about this topic but that will have to wait for another day)
5:30 The star switches aren't limited they're repressable (unlike the blue coin block)
6:30 Dorrie only wears the Wario hat if you play as anyone but Wario
9:19 The picture of Bowser is also different between the 2 versions
10:11 Why didn't you show us a comparison between the 2 versions this time
10:26 In Super Mario 64 DS you can have 3 endings:
    Ending #1 - Mario & Yoshi
    Ending #2 - Mario, Luigi & Yoshi
Ending #3 - Mario, Luigi, Wario & Yoshi
    Nice work overall

The mushrooms were not inspired by New Super Mario Bros. as Super Mario 64 DS was released 2 years before New Super Mario Bros. Also, Klepto (the bird in tiny Huge Island) is in Tiny Huge Island in both versions, he just wasn't carrying a star in the original. You also forgot to compare the images at the end of the credits.

Some control schemes aren't (understandably) and Wario is so useless the devs just put a bunch of black blocks randomly. Character switching is useless since the caps you need are usually nearby on floors or enemies. Some switch stars are weirdly easy.
I'd say SM64DS is more of a sidegrade than a straight upgrade of the original

the DS version would have been good if it was released on the 3DS.. but the D-Pad to control a 360deg character with precision and the fact you need to press a button to run is just freaking stupid.. it's just completely unplayable... Some changes are cute, but some others are just dumb. the new characters should not even be there, especially the fact that you start the game with yoshi WHYYYY!?!?
9:12 "very complex maze" lol, you almost just turn once and you get the star.

Nah you clearly just played SM64 first and then when they change anything in the remake oh it's soooo hard to adapt to the change so you just hate on it. Your only valid criticism is that you have to play with a d-pad, I admit I play on a 3DS, but poor Luigi, everyone wanted him in the original and now you have him you hate on it? Just because you came in after playing the original first expecting the remake to be similar, and then it's not what you expect so you get angry? Completely undeserved. I played SM64DS first, without any prior expectations going into it, and I honestly loved it, and I still do, just don't go into it expecting it to be similar to the original otherwise of course you're going to be disappointed.

    • @Tashiro64
      @Tashiro64 2 месяца назад +1

@@thewierdragonbaby4843 your comment is 100% valid, I've been playing sm64 for 28 years since release day so yeah nostalgia hits hard and i dont want to see "my baby" being changed. I don't mind luigi too much, it's more the fact you start with yoshi that i dont get + thinking of it.. wario should not even be there, The new stars are a great addition.. yeah the big problem I have is definitely the control. I would probably play again and enjoy a lot more if i could play a rom hack where you run by default and have a real 360 stick (because even on the 3ds even if ppl say otherwise you are still moving in 45 degrees angles but it feels better with the stick)
      But you're right!
It's the control and nostalgia that makes me hate this game. But as I say myself all the time : When it's the same, ppl complain.. When it's different, ppl complain!
      :D

In hindsight, while it sort of made sense to release Mario 64 on DS to promote hardware graphics potential and pull buyers. I still can't help but wish Nintendo developed the game for 3DS instead. The analog is way better than D pad for controls. Plus more potential with better hardware
