I love the pea coat but wouldn’t wear one because of them being double breasted 😂I’ve been cutting out a Papercut Patterns Nova Coat this afternoon. It’s my first attempt at a lined wool coat so I’m feeling a bit apprehensive 😅 I still have the lining and interfacing to cut out but I’ll do that during the week and make a start on sewing it next weekend. Fun video. I bought the I AM Re jacket/coat last year during black Friday sales. I haven't made it yet, but it calls for toggle closure and comes in two lengths. I would like to adapt it to have a barrel-type collar as I don't love hoods, or maybe make the hood detachable. I also have the Waffle Patterns Yuzu that I look forward to making some day😂. She makes amazingly detailed patterns, of which I have several. Thanks for sharing this!
yes! i have been familiar with Waffle Patterns for awhile but when i first found her i was too scared to sew a coat and now i have so many coats that i don't really need to be buying more patterns. but maybe someday i will try one.

I really enjoyed watching this. For some reason, I’ve been itching to make myself a winter coat this year. Not sure it’ll happen, but loved the inspiration!
My favorite is the first one, the Ulster coat. if it has sleeves, it is an Ulster coat. If it doesn't have sleeves, it is an Inverness cape. I've found this coat striking and been planning to make one for the past five years. Been doing my research to make this one a reality. There is a Vogue Individualist pattern from the 70s that give the garment extra flair. Looking to find one or I may give up and Frankenstein several patterns for some close. It would need to long because I don't have a car right now and seats at the bus stops ate made of metal. At -10 F, I often spend time waiting outside or walking to.catch the bus. Been thinking of your red trench coat.... You could add a removable polar fleece lining to stretch out the wearing season. I was going for o make one but I saw one at Goodwill that was new with tags and it had a removable lining. As it was in my size, I bought it for $20. Its by London Fog. I date it to the 90s and I love the long length.
a removable lining sounds interesting and also way more complicated than i would want to tackle. 😂 it sounds like you got a great thrift find--that's awesome!
@@knottygnome the removable lining I did for my son, attaches with small buttons at the shoulders, sides and front. It is so rare to find new with tags of better brands in my thrifting hunts, so the black trenchcoat is one of my best finds ever. He
They are all great. I have never attempted a coat, it seems way too intimidating to me. I had an aunt that worked in a coat factory , she could make anything. Because she was so petite she had a custom dress form and made most of her clothes. I wish I had spent more time with her.
i always thought that coats are too scary but there are lots of easy coat patterns out there now that don't even use tailoring techniques. it's not so bad if you start easy and work your way up.
I made a short cape with a very simple pattern and the Luxe fleece from Joann in a taupe color several years ago - I added topstitching next to all the seams on both sides and it came out looking pretty good, if I say so myself, but I only wear it now and then as it's just not practical unless you are using a clutch bag or a small top-handle bag and I prefer cross-body bags. I would like to make a longer coat this year but am not sure I'd get that much use out of it as I mostly wear pants in the winter and am in a car so don't really like the extra bulk and length to sit on. That doesn't mean I don't own some of these patterns - I just haven't used them! Great video!
@@knottygnome That, too! Perfect for strolling through the countryside on a crisp autumn day - not so much for going to the supermarket 😄! I actually wear something similar to a cape around my house in the winter to stay warm, though! Just can't get the heating distribution right in our older house, built for coal heat and then converted to oil 🥶.

i've heard people complain that capes are hard to drive in too b/c of the lack of arm mobility situation. they look so cute though.
