as i've been doing them this year though i realized that most of the time it really isn't that bad. all of the fixes in september took less than 15 minutes for each one.
I loved this video! That cardigan is stellar 👍👍 I am actually on vacation right now, it has been cold and rainy, I have a bit of a cold, and I am so tired. But I saw you had a video, so I got a little mini sewing project kit to work on before bed. I put on your video and instantly felt like I was with a friend. You do such a great job with your makes. I feel inspired. I hope you are doing well, and thank you for sharing your makes!
i feel like i keep getting a lot of credit for it but at least in sept, everything i did took literal minutes to fix. it's really a lot less effort than i feared when i started fixing my garments.
Great makes! My favorite is the Cozi jacket but close behind are those adorable jeans. I love how you moved the pockets on the jacket; good move to make them functional. With the back skirt and top, it's quite a lovely outfit. The jeans look very stylish. I love the front detail.
Your white cardigan is so smart and a really versatile garment and your green jacket is very stylish for the fall. I love how you show your repairs because it's very wardrobe conscious in our throw away society and financially smart too. Otherwise it's a shame to not get the wear out of a garment that we put so much love and time into making. ❤
absolutely! i haven't always been great about doing repairs but i've found it's definitely been worth it, especially when so many things are easy quick fixes.
I love everything about your end of the month videos!!! The sweater and olive jacket were my favorites. I think the button placement on the sweater was perfect and so flattering,. I burst out laughing when you called yourself an idiot! I can't believe how many mistakes I make too and I have to laugh. Have a great week!
Yes, I did enjoy this video, thanks for sharing. I’m thinking about some fall makes and it’s nice to see what others are making. I’m ready to dig into my sewing but I don’t think I’ll be as prolific as you, well done.
I love all of your makes! Your sweater is perfect! I can see how you would have a hard time ranking your makes this month. ❤ I also like that you give us the amount of time you work on your garments, it seems like a reasonable amount of time. Thank you for sharing.
it was just a momentary reaction. i probably would never have noticed if i hadn't needed to fix the vest and i was just picturing myself wearing it for the first time and getting poked.
Oh, one more thing... Yes to stitching down facings! I am even doing faux flat felled seams lately so that I don't have to worry about seam allowances looking wonky after washing, and it makes it easier to iron too.
❤❤❤ Adorable sweater and cozy jacket. Couldn’t agree more about upper jacket pockets. I won’t buy a jacket with only upper pockets and surely won’t sew one, unless of course I had a way to add secret inside lower pockets 😅. The white topstitching on the jeans is perfect and my new favorite for jeans. Very modern and fresh touch! I don’t know how you’ve made all those garments, did mending jobs, AND knit that sweet sweater! Brava! 🎉
i would worry that fray check would make the lining in that area crunchy and poky to wear. i might see if i still have a scrap of the lining and try it to see what it feels like. thank you for the suggestion!
Great video Sara and it’s always nice when you can save an item! (And those were some beautiful pieces you saved!). Your knitting is so professional looking! That sweater looks like you purchased it from J.Crew or Lands End. Thanks so much for sharing! ❤
I cannot knit and am in absolute awe of that gorgeous cardigan, so that would be my favorite September make but they're all good - so fashionable, so wearable, just right in every way. As for mistakes, last night I dreamed that I cut a small hole in the back of something when I was almost finished making it and was trying to figure out how to fix it - so now I not only screw up when I'm awake, I'm making mistakes in my sleep 😂! Shows what's on my mind, too!
worsted weight goes pretty fast in my experience. the trade off is that it can be very hot. but that's why i like to stick to cardigans in heavier yarns.
What a fantastic idea you received about lengthening the straps to fix the gap problem! I never would have thought of that! I wonder if some feather weight iron on interfacing ironed over your vest lining darts would help with the fraying? You might need to hand stitch the edges of the interfacing to the lining, but it might be worth the time. The vest is so nice! Your story of the pin left inside the best reminds me of the stories of surgeons accidentally leaving sponges inside patients during surgery! 😲🥴🤪 Your betty jeans look so cool! What an interesting front yoke! I don't think I've seen that pattern before. The jeans look great on you! I think they are my favorite of your makes, and I would like to see a styling video. 😊
I love your Cozi Jacket. I'm reminded that I've owned the pattern (plus the expansion pack) since it was released and have yet to make it. You've motivated me.
I like the lines and look of the Fiber Mood Jeans. I may have to give that pattern a look as well as the Cozi Jacket. I have had my eye on the cozi for some time and I really like your version.
Just bought the Cosi jacket + expansion pack last night and here you are reviewing it so favorably!! 👍 I’m short like you so your styling suggestions are on the spot. Thank you for sharing all your makes and honesty.
I've done that too!! 😆 I sewed a pin to the inside of a waistband this summer. I think, maybe that it was the white Tommy Jean Skirt. If I'm pinning with the WS facing, I then go through and move them to the outside so I can see and remove them as I'm topstitching on the outside. I missed one. 🙃 I love the green jacket. Definitely want something like that! 😍 The topstitching made it! I made that same cutting error with my last Reeta shirtdress - I cut out the front pieces without placing the back piece on the fold first 🤦♀️ don'tcha just hate it when that happens? It was still one of my favorite things to wear this summer. I've got 2 4-yd cuts of a dk green cotton sheeting.... hmm. It was fun seeing your makes; I do love the sweater, too! I've just started a MKAL, so I don't know if I'm going to start a sweater this fall. Have a great weekend!
I absolutely love that jacket, it came out so cute! I llol'd about your fabric situ bc I am 5'2" and do the same thing. I get tired of so much fabric going to waste because it's written for someone 8" taller than me (or whatever) so I almost always buy less than it says and assume it will all work out. Just like you, I've experienced it not working out...😂
Love it all --from the little repairs to the new makes! The white vest turned out so well. I will keep your note about lining/sizing in mind for future makes. I also find interesting that the armscye was tight. I am petite like you and in the past I have found the armscye too low on big 4 patterns, but lately I am finding big 4 patterns to fit just right in that area without making any modifications? Also love your comments on sizing and fitting as you go. I am thinking on making a vest for layering, and I should probably go up a size if I want it to fit over a dress or shirt. The cardigan is a 10 out of 10. I have a thrifted cardigan in the same tone and I wear it all the time. I might start knitting one as a replacement. I wear it so much, the cuffs get pretty gross and it needs to be washed often so I don't know how much longer it will hold up 😂 The boxy jacket is spot on. I love the sizing - boxy without overwhelming a petite frame. What size did you make? I didn't catch that. The olive + black looks great imo. I often use a dark column (could be a dress or separates) with a lighter/colorful layer.
i think i forgot to say--i made a size 2 in the jacket. i sew a size 6 in the shoulders/chest of big 4 but that often results in armholes and bust darts that are too high. although i am short, i'm mostly short in my limbs, not my torso. HTH.
Loved this video. It almost inspired me to tackle my repair/refashion basket, but not quite. 😂 Anyway, I love the knitted cardigan and how you styled it with white jeans. But what is that gorgeous belt you're wearing? And, lest I forget, I must add the Betty jeans to my pattern stash. They look great on you.
What great outfits you put together! That beautiful burgundy blouse- do you know what material you used? Thanks for the inspiration 🥰 …Never mind. I just saw your Minerva link and found it. Yay!
it's a linen skirt that was a refashion of a dress that did not work out. i cut off the bodice and made an elastic waistband. it's really just a simple gathered tiered skirt made from rectangles.
I think I forgot to say, I sewed a size 2 in the Cozi jacket, which is the size that most closely matches my measurements
@@knottygnome thanks!
Congratulations you have done do much alterations can be a pain but there worth it 😊😊😊
as i've been doing them this year though i realized that most of the time it really isn't that bad. all of the fixes in september took less than 15 minutes for each one.

thank you, Melanie! that means a lot to me. i consider us to be internet friends, at least. that must count for something 😂
Really great makes, but I think I’m most impressed by the number of alterations you manage in a month, in addition to the new makes!
i feel like i keep getting a lot of credit for it but at least in sept, everything i did took literal minutes to fix. it's really a lot less effort than i feared when i started fixing my garments.
I'm in awe of your monthly productivity! Well done.
and here i was thinking i didn't do that much since i only finished 4 things. i will take it though! 😂
Great makes! My favorite is the Cozi jacket but close behind are those adorable jeans. I love how you moved the pockets on the jacket; good move to make them functional. With the back skirt and top, it's quite a lovely outfit. The jeans look very stylish. I love the front detail.
thank you very much! yes, i love the angled seams on the betty that integrate the front pockets. that was one of my favorite details.
Fray check will take care of things. You are amazing .
thanks for the suggestion.

All the makes So Nice!! My fav the last jacket!😊🎉🎉
thanks for sharing!

I burst out laughing when you called yourself an idiot! I can't believe how many mistakes I make too and I have to laugh. Have a great week!
it's nice to know that everybody makes boneheaded mistakes sometimes. 😂
Yes, I did enjoy this video, thanks for sharing. I’m thinking about some fall makes and it’s nice to see what others are making. I’m ready to dig into my sewing but I don’t think I’ll be as prolific as you, well done.
good luck with your fall sewing! it's not the number that counts, it's whether you love and wear what you make.🩷

i'm glad you enjoyed the video! i try to give as many useful details as i possibly can, excepting the things i inevitably forget. 😂
I cannot believe you knit that sweater in a month?. You are amazing. I have been working on a sweater for months! Great job on all.
i spent a lot of time working on it because i was enjoying it so much. i have also knit sweaters that took years to finish. 😂
@@knottygnome well great job!
Please don’t call yourself an idiot. I know I had to rip open a seam to get a missed pin out. It happens. Very nice and well thought out video.
My hairdresser found one of my pins, when she was cutting my hair.
it was just a momentary reaction. i probably would never have noticed if i hadn't needed to fix the vest and i was just picturing myself wearing it for the first time and getting poked.
The last outfit and the white/brown cardigan outfit were gorgeous and elegant yet down to earth! 🎉
thank you so much!
Oh, one more thing...
Yes to stitching down facings! I am even doing faux flat felled seams lately so that I don't have to worry about seam allowances looking wonky after washing, and it makes it easier to iron too.
that's very try about the ironing! facings can be so annoying.
❤❤❤ Adorable sweater and cozy jacket. Couldn’t agree more about upper jacket pockets. thank you! i agree--i love using non-traditional colored topstitching thread.
Perhaps if you put fray check on the bits that are fraying you would get your vest to last a bit longer.
i would worry that fray check would make the lining in that area crunchy and poky to wear. i might see if i still have a scrap of the lining and try it to see what it feels like. thank you for the suggestion!
You could also take a scrap of something and sew it over the dart. The lining isn’t seen and you would get to enjoy the vest for longer.

i've done that before too. thankfully it doesn't carry over into the waking world. 🤣
I loved your knit sweater. That would take me a year to do☺️
worsted weight goes pretty fast in my experience. the trade off is that it can be very hot. but that's why i like to stick to cardigans in heavier yarns.
Love the pattern scout jacket!
thank you!
Great recap! I love the Butterick vest and the knitted cardigan best, but of course they were all good and great saves.
thank you for sharing!

it's an interesting idea with the IF. i'll have to give it some more thought.
So many great makes, I am smitten with the cozi jacket and think I’ll give it a try too! Also I’d love a barrel leg jean styling video!!!
it looks like a lot of folks are interested in sewing the cozi!
I love your Cozi Jacket. I'm reminded that I've owned the pattern (plus the expansion pack) since it was released and have yet to make it. You've motivated me.
i definitely bought the pattern in a sale years ago and hadn't made it until now. i'm glad i finally did!
Thank you!❤
You're welcome 😊
I like the lines and look of the Fiber Mood Jeans. I may have to give that pattern a look as well as the Cozi Jacket. I have had my eye on the cozi for some time and I really like your version.
thanks! i have no idea why it took me so long to make the Cozi. i bought the pattern on sale at least 2 years ago.
I love the sweater!
thank you! I love it too.❤️
I love the cozy jacket I have that pattern and since I saw your make I am planning to make it this season. Thanks
i've heard from so many people who are planning the same. we'll be an army of Cozi warriors this fall. 🤣
Just bought the Cosi jacket + expansion pack last night and here you are reviewing it so favorably!! 👍 I’m short like you so your styling suggestions are on the spot. Thank you for sharing all your makes and honesty.
i'm glad you enjoyed it! i hope you like your cozi jacket.
My favorite was your dark green cozi jacket followed by your knit cardigan.
thanks for sharing! I appreciate it.

totally! to be fair to us, it does usually work out (in my case anyway). it's just that the few times that it doesn't, it's a huge pain. 🤣
Love it all --from the little repairs to the new makes!

Love the Cozi Jacket. Did you make the skirt that you are wearing with this jacket? Is it denim? So cute! Great Job!❤ Time stamp 20:18
it's a linen skirt that was a refashion of a dress that did not work out. i cut off the bodice and made an elastic waistband. it's really just a simple gathered tiered skirt made from rectangles.
Great video Sarah, I was wondering about the Patterns Scout, you said it oversize? Do you need to size down
it's meant to be oversized. i made the size that corresponds most closely to my measurements in the pattern.
Too hard to pick a favorite
i had a really hard time too!
