  • This huge opening in the roof is both a window to the sky and like a gigantic eye that observes us insignificant people. This is the vision I wanted to capture in a fine art photograph.
The Messe Basel, designed by Herzog de Meuron, is a well-known and popular subject for architectural photography and the shapes, monochromatic materials and textures beg for black and white photography - which of course I can't refuse.
In addition to the seemingly monolithic façade surfaces, which only reveal themselves on closer inspection as waves of aluminum strips of varying thickness, it is not only architectural photographers who are impressed by the open center of the first floor, which is designed as an urban square above the urban space baptized as the "City Lounge".
World-renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron built a lot of buildings in their hometown. In fact, there is no other place as stacked with their architecture as Basel, which makes this city a little Eldorado for architecture photography.
    Thanks for watching!

You are my inspiration. Your work here transports me back to the day I visited Basel and the shots you took together with the process of it filled a void which I didn't have the time to complete. Thank you for the experience.

The first shot was so strong, and inspires me to find these perspectives.

Nice architecture, and you are a very patient photographer, waiting for those clouds 😄

Thank you. I didn't wait long enough though (or just wasn't lucky). I hoped the clouds would at some point look more like an iris - because that's is my vision for this image.

@@thomasrhinow Ah yes that would be very nice. Maybe a few more visits are needed for this to succeed. Just like when you want a plane to pass the eye, which maybe even is harder (don’t know the situation, maybe its near an airfield ;-)

Hi Thomas! Congrats for these shoots! Wich Lens are you using on the first image?

      Thank you, Juan :)
It's my old trusted workhorse, the Olympus OM Zuiko Auto-W 18mm/f3.5. Vintage and all manual, but so tiny, light and excellent performing. Now that my only Canon EF, the 70-200mm/f4 broke, I'm only using vintage Contax Zeiss and Olympus OM lenses and I'll adapt them to my latest camera upgrade too, the Sony A7RIII (so bye bye good old 5DII).
