One of the better Photoshop tutorials I’ve watched. Assumptions were explained, tools listed, goals explained, and steps executed with minimal verbiage. Excellent! Nice image too!
Fantastic video and photo but could you do another architectural photo tutorial from start to finish including using section tool. ( you whole work flow) It would be great for beginners like myself also if you could explain how you work out where the lights and shadows go. Much appreciated. Great work.
Loved it. You’ve found your niche: b&w fine art architectural edits for those who have a decent grasp of PS. Everything else on RUclips drags on for an hour and are poorly edited. For those of us following along on an iPad, where it is hard to see the marching ants on the loaded selections, may I recommend briefly selecting the mask so we can see the loaded selection clearly. This video was quite the revelation: when on a trip to a city and the weather turns dreary, you can shoot architectural details and then re-light the scene from your imagination. Sure beats sitting around with the camera in the bag and bemoaning the weather.
Your Simple way of explanation opened my eyes - all this while wondering it was rocket science while watching other photographers - thanks again 👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Andre, thanks so much for the kind words! I try to keep it simple but sometimes I fear I do skip some steps. I will try to continue to improve these videos. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks Jay. That was really helpful and clearly described. There are. Two other ways I’ve been experimenting with. One is to select/CRTL/J to make a new layer with each selection, change to smart object and use ACR to make adjustments. The other is to have three BnW exposures and use selections/masks and gradient tool the reveal/hide lighter or darker layers. I like the ACR method because I’m used to working in lightroom but your method here is simpler so I’ll give it a go. Cheers, Julian.
Julian -- Thanks so much for the comment. There are so many ways of doing things in PS -- I will give your method a try! Are you on Instagram? Would love to see your work.
Thanks so much for the nice words Dennis! I hope to post regular videos, but sometimes life gets in the way. I appreciate you watching and commenting -- Jay
Thanks Adrian! I am finding that these architectural shoots/tutorials are getting more views than my landscape videos which has helped by subscriber growth. I fear they will get boring quickly though. Another landscape video coming later from my shoot this morning in Connecticut.
@@JCImagesBehindtheShot Definitely agree Jay, tutorials are the way to go. My D850 focus settings vid got twice the normal views. Look forward to your dawn shoot video. Cheers.
Hi Jay, the structure and flow of your videos is fantastic. I have watched 6 different videos today of yours and they are all great. Your explanation to the process is great. You have really made this fine art process to architecture simple and very straight forward. I was very intimidated with no clear method to start and you have really simplified it. Great videos and great images. Thanks.
Hi, first I would like to congratulate to you for your excellent explanation. Please what i wish o ask you is regarding the selecting areas, How you managed to select them with just one click. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the kind words Mario. I actually do not make the selections with one click. What I did was to make selections ahead of time with the quick selection tool and the polygonal lasso tool. I saved those selections by clicking on "Select" and then "save selection" and name it They I just hit "select" and "load selection" to reload it.
Great video JC. The clearest explanation of this I've seen so far. It's very clean and precise which is really hard to do. I hope your channel goes from strength to strength
Great tutorial !! I always thought it was so difficult and would take so much time to proceed. I m a photoshopnoob , but this video realy brings it to a good end ! Thanks , I am very happy with it.
Great video JC. Glad I found your channel and now I am a new follower. I, like many others have said, appreciate how you communicate what you did. Succint, to the point, and very clear. Looking forward to more videos, tutorials or not ( but tutorials will get you many more views). RUclips selected your videos after I watched a Ben Harvey video. Just wondering if you are also inspired by the romanian architect Julia Anna Gospodarou style or if someone else inspired you, or if you developed this look on you own. Love the final result.
Thanks so much for the comment. I have been inspired by Julia and several other photographers. I have tried to develop my own style -- still a work in progress. Are you on Instagram? Would love to see some of your work.
Thanks for the reply. I do have an IG account but it is inactive as I found myself trying to please others instead of myself, with my photography. I finally stepped away from it to regain focus. I will go back to shooting what I like which is landscapes, both natural and cityscapes.
Thanks JK. It really depends on the image. If the sections are made up of straight lines, it is generally pretty easy to use to the polygonal lasso tool. If there are many curves, it is tougher. I can spend 20 minutes or 2 hours making selections. This one was pretty easy.
Hi, very interesting your work, congratulations! I ask why, in my Photoshop, when I click on Load Selection, the Channel window does not open the options sky, curved tower, left trip, sky etc. Could you help me, please?
See how I shot and processed another architectural image ruclips.net/video/eZAuF4KF0Sk/видео.html

Very kind Jack! I probably need to do some more basic tutorials but there are so many good ones available. Thanks for watching!

This video changed the way I look at architecture editing. Brilliant !! Bravo !!

Beautiful image and inspirational process! Thanks! Any chance I can talk you into doing some Lightroom ONLY tutorials, or don't you use Lightroom?
I do use Lightroom and it is a great idea to do a LR video!
Great video.
Very kind Paul! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thanks for this (and other) videos. It really helped me connect a few dots on adding gradients to selections during the editing. 👍👏👏.
Merci beaucoup, formidable... !

Good video! Just a little suggestion. It will be easier to see the image if you make it bigger using the complete space in PS. Thank you!

How long does it take to make the selections? Is there an easier way or program you are aware to help with that task?
