- Today, I try going full throttle for the first time in my 2023 Volkswagen Golf R. It's pretty impressive! I apologize for the rather high camera angle...

That DSG is far better for the R than the manual. I'd only get a DSG if it was in one because it just feels right with the AWD, way less strain on the system.
Exactly sounds like audi s3 ..stage 1 tune easy 400hp. That Is38 turbo can handle a lot of power..💪
Will probably start popping more when it has more mileage and is run in👍
We’ll see!
I like driving in Drift mode the best with ESC completely OFF. The car's steering feels tighter
I’ll have to test that out!
I test drove one recently. The exhaust valves open in Special mode and the automatic shifting is disabled. Does that happen in Race mode, too? Is there a difference in shift speed between modes?
I’ll have to look into that more!
That’s only in special mode that the auto shifting is off. Valves are open in both modes
If you dont have the OBDeleven, you shouldn't definitely get one for that car.
What would I use it for?
You paid over 50 k for a golf right ?
I will go over that in a future video :)
Wondering how comfortable the ride is in comfort setting versus your GTI with 18” wheels. You have the dampers present but a tad less rubber to isolate you from harsh impacts so I’m curious if the car can actually handle broken pavement decent enough when used as a commuter or even on longer drives when you wanna just chill. Congrats on the new ride btw! The R looks sick in white. Hah, honestly though if I could I would have all three because I think it looks amazing in black, blue, and white, they just give off different vibes to me 😋
Thanks for watching! The ride is actually better than the GTI when you’re in the comfort modes. On the race mode it’s obviously a lot more stiff
@@JVette01 veeery interesting 🤔 Hah shoot, that comment might’ve sold me on the R right there…or maybe the GTI Autobahn lol. I love what modern cars can achieve these days with adaptive damper setups, it really IS like having two cars in one 👌 I feel like the GTI is all I ever need power wise and love that it accepts regular fuel for those times gas prices spike up…though…that front end and rear spoiler looks WAY better to me than the GTI. 😁 Thanks for the reply!!
@@benwells2338 I switched from a mk7 GTI without DCC to a mk8 Golf R with DCC, and comfort is a night and day difference, I'd say my GTI was about equivelant to +3 on the stiff side of the R's dcc suspension setup while the R just glides when you max out comfort on the DCC, the only thing that I felt was less comfortable was how it dealt with potholes, but I guess that has more to do with the 19" wheels on the R vs 18s on the GTI than anything
I feel bad driving a golf r after taking my c8 around. The c8 take all the good thinks about the r. I see videos like this im like right right.. on winter diferent perspective
Where do your RPM’s top out at in launch mode? I did a launch in my R for the first time and it stops at 3,000 rpm’s and about 25 psi on turbo. Is this correct? I heard some peoples launch control Rpm’s get up to 5,000 and then they launch. I held it as long as I could but it wouldn’t budge past 3,000 rpm’s so that’s where I launched it.
Mine usually holds around 4k rpm. Feel free to check out my dragy testing video. You’ll see everything there.
@@JVette01 ok great thank you!
Which software version did it come with?
Not sure. How can I find this out?
@@JVette01 In your infotainment menu, select “Setup” then navigate to “System Information.” Your current software version will be listed there.
Is there anything I should know about software version?
Even if you're not keeping a vehicle long term. It's nice to think about the next owner. A break in period on these vehicles is at least 1000 miles. You put the most amount of wear and tear on an engine within the first 1000 miles. RIP next owner.
I plan on keeping this car, and I’m not worried 1 bit about stepping on it at 600 miles lol… that’s plenty
@@JVette01 glad to hear it. It's an amazing vehicle. I'm still breaking mine in, picked it up 2 weeks ago. The urge to really step on it has been almost unbearable! Amazingly enough, even when going easy on it, the small pulls feels amazing. I'm coming from a 2019 GLI.
Congrats! I went easy for 600 miles but it was tough. My M2 on the other hand I did wait basically the whole amount which was 1,200 miles because they were very serious about it and even had a “break in service”
@@JVette01I would do at least an oil change, even if you don't change the oil filter at about those miles.
On mine I changed it at 500 miles and it was nasty. I did it myself, 5.7 quarts, the engine feels way smoother. I am planning on doing a 1000 mile oil and filter change and another one at 3000.
no surprises, its like a little monster, it launches like crazy, the fastest 0 to 60 that pepole have gotten is 3.9 sec. Atleast thats what the other indenpendent tests have seen.
I actually dragy tested mine. Stay tuned for the next video ;)
@@JVette01 will sure do, imagine it with downpipes and a tune ,this thing would fly
I heard you mention that you were fine with the break in period at 600 miles. I bought my gti new 40 miles and was pretty mean to it (digs and mountain riding)within a couple hundred miles.
Is that really bad for a new car?
Might affect long-term engine life, I have a new gti and am pretty mean to it also
Tbh you’ll never really know.. just take care of it and do your maintenance
Take a sample (used engine oil) and send it to Blackstone Laboratories.
do these have a higher speed limiter than the gti's 128?
Yes :)
How many miles did you have on your GTI and how much trade-in did you get?
I’ll go over that in a future video. I had 15,600 miles
@@JVette01 GTI is fast and good all-around but isn't quite fun enough. Volkswagen wants 50k for fun aye?
The GTI was just great.. I wanted to try an AWD vehicle with traction and I loved my GTI so much that I figured I’d get the best version of a golf
I30n dct sell sounds better
We don’t get that car in the states and I wouldn’t buy it anyway
So sick man!
Thanks!
Buy akrapovic .
I’m not sure how long I’ll have it so I don’t want to spend any money on it at this moment
We can't get it anyway. They only make it for MK7.5 and down.
