  • When embarking on a Digital Transformation we often focus on Project Management, but Project Management is a lot different than Program Management. I will discuss just that today and define a strategy that encompasses both to ensure success.

As someone who’s worked in this space for many years, I can vouch for this content. Well done. When I’ve worked in organizations that undervalued the boxes to the left (business process re-engineering and org change management) the project work that we did in the boxes on the right was often subject to re-work, either during user testing phase or, worse, after launch. Over the last few years, I’ve been fortunate to work with leaders that understand that the boxes on the left will help ensure that the big investment they’re making in a software change can only be fully realized if they also invest time and resources in making sure that the people and processes are ready to adopt them.

I’m currently considering a career change and am so glad I came across your videos. As an IT lead for many years, you’re right on the money regarding where most organizations focus and how leaving out these other important processes is such a missed opportunity.

This makes more sense. Digital transformation is definitely not an easy process. Learning the difference between these two concepts (Project Management and Program Management) will make businesses' digital transformation strategy a lot easier.

Can you guide me towards a resource of yours on some of the "pittfalls" that are in place on the Digital Transformation process and exactly how to avoid them?

Great high level view and explanation although I'd say there is some intersection of D&A w/software project management which could be noted. My basis is that analytics are now a core function of UX within software and the effort of creating new analytics should be treated as a software project as well. @Eric - would be interested in your thoughts.

Only thing I'd probably respectfully disagree with is the assumption that OCM focuses on the people side of things and Business Process Improvement on processes. They are both under OCM in my opinion. One exception would only be for business cases simply because this is typically BAs/Product people responsibility.
