I am a bit confuse with what he said about the first part when he was talking about the bagel. He skipped the line to get the bagels, not one but two. In his teaching he said we don’t always have to follow the rules but just as long as we don’t stop someone else (not his exact words but I’m trying to paraphrase) what if the last person in line that waited all this time doesn’t get any because he skipped the line, isn’t that getting in someone else’s way? Hindering someone else’s progress?
Would you say someone who deliberately ran faster in order to get in front of the guy who doesn't happen to be left with a bagel is getting in the way of them too? Hindering their progress in the same way?
@@dalinelightbourne4502 They have the exact same effect. The last person in line might not get any bagels because of them. Isn't that what you were considering? Let's say there's 2 spots to get the same bagels. One where you can take your time, examine them and choose which one you want and another where you're just given a bagel and you go on your way. One forms a queue and on the other one people just get their bagel and leave. No queue forms. Would you say you're worried about the people at the back of the queue not getting any bagels?
@@TunaIRL I guess I’m looking at it differently. @@dalinelightbourne4502 The person at the end of the queue could've ran faster. Or went to the queue faster instead of talking with their friend for 10 minutes and then getting into it. Or any other thing they could've done to make sure they get a bagel if they truly want it. Maybe even just go up and take a bagel.
Simon Sinek’s talk about 50 minutes shaping the next 50 years is inspiring, but it feels like it oversimplifies how long-lasting change actually happens. Life is unpredictable, and no single talk or moment can guarantee success or transformation over decades. Are we creating unrealistic expectations for people, making them believe that one session or insight will magically fix their future? Maybe we should emphasize the importance of consistent effort, adaptability, and ongoing learning instead of focusing on a single transformative moment.
You bring up a valid point-lasting change requires consistent effort, not just one inspiring talk or moment. Simon Sinek’s message is likely about sparking a mindset shift that serves as a foundation for ongoing growth, rather than suggesting that 50 minutes alone will determine an entire future. It’s about planting seeds of motivation and intention that, when nurtured with effort and adaptability, can lead to meaningful, long-term impact. Transformation is a journey, and this talk is just a catalyst for that process
Ahhh the free bagel, yes. For those who had been in a run and get freebies (drinks/foods) will know. U can que to get your choices or just grab and go. Sometimes I queue and sometimes i just grab and go. Thanks Simon
Lol, that's just impudence and total disrespect for other people. If you don't want to spend your time queuing for a free bagel, you can go and buy it with your own money. Otherwise you are no different than animals who just take what they want.

Agreed. And the other person didn't just see the line, they saw what more joyful things they could do with their time than wait for something they didn't really want; they valued their quality time over a food item they didn't want, or need.
Peacefully, I think you guys missed the point of that story and how these events are set up, they did not cut anybody or cause anybody to wait longer than they would have. They just took some initiative.
One doesn't want the bagel enough to wait, so the other just parts two people, grabs two bagels and thats called initiative. "No one said anything (to a white guy) or had to wait longer. "
I loved this video! The story about the SEALs was especially impactful. It taught me that true strength comes from within, not from external appearances. Being genuine and humble is key to real success
re: the bagels. The philosopher Kant, while often flawed, presented a moral argument that would be very applicable here. Kant introduced a thing called the Categorical Imperative, which loosely says that a thing passes a test of ethics, if everyone were to do it. So, imagine if everyone stepped up and reached through a line of people to get themselves a bagel instead of waiting their turn in an orderly way! Chaos. Simon has good words, usually. However, his illustration of the bagel story is NOT his best advice.
@@gregorymiron8116 yes, but it was not simon's point that "no one is perfect" or that we are all "part of the human condition". His point was that people should think outside the box more, which usually is good advice, except in THIS case, it's terrible advice, because he tries to justify seeing past the obstacle to his desire (people in line to get free bagels) by just jumping the line and helping himself. If that is his best example for thinking "past one's obstacles", then he is a dimwit, because the lineup is there to keep things orderly and fair and what he did was to be disorderly and unfair. period.

I paused at the bagel example. It did not resonate with my values. Whilst I don’t approve it, I learnt a lesson to focus on the bagel and not the queue in life.
"This video is full of practical advice! The idea of practicing being the last to speak in a conversation to truly understand others is brilliant. It's a simple yet profound way to improve communication and leadership skills.
The video is about 5 lessons learned from Simon Sinek. Here are the lessons: Rule number one: go after what you want. Don't be afraid to break the rules as long as you don't get in the way of others. Rule number two: take accountability for your actions, both good and bad. Rule number three: take care of each other. Help others and ask for help when you need it. Rule number four: practice empathy and perspective taking. Understand where others are coming from. Rule number five: focus on serving others. True meaning in life comes from helping others.
Well you write very well, better than many first language speakers. as a monolingual person I am always impressed by those who take the time to learn a second language. Keep up the work and translate what u can to others. Peace
Once again, thank you Simon. I wish our company president could see and really hear this. He really needs to. I'd probably be told that if I am unhappy - there's the door.
Yes, Florence Nightingale was credited with improving hand washing in war hospitals (particularly the Crimea) to reduce infections. It’s just as important today but pre 1920’s (when antibiotics came in) more so.
The bagel example is a poor example. By taking bagels ahead of your turn you are literally preventing others from getting their turn and possibly their bagel if there wasn't enough. Surely there are examples where you can "bend" the rules and not harm others (get in their way)?? After all, if you'd been faster (worked harder) you would have been further ahead in the line
If you did that in Lithuania, you'd get a punch in the face, they'd take away your bagel, and you'd go to the back of the line.🤠 That would be a lesson for you to follow the rules and respect others.

@@LinlinArtChannel I'm not saying there aren't good ideas here, just that that particular example does not make a good point. His Leaders Eat Last is an excellent book on leadership.
These are some great concepts but I feel like instead of motivating to move forward it holds on to the past. The world is evolving, and so must our values. Instead of clinging to outdated ideals, we should embrace change and adapt, reinventing what greatness means in today’s reality. Tradition had its time, but now is the moment to build something new, something that truly reflects the world we live in.
"In today's world, we've normalized damaging corporate practices and technology addictions that erode trust, relationships, and mental health. To thrive, we must foster supportive environments that prioritize empathy, patience, and meaningful human connections over instant gratification and short-term gains."
I cannot take the tip skipping line and take bagel. If it is allowed, there is no line but chaos. Most people just want two free bagels, not have to be certain type. Getting what we want in life should not take advantage of not being ethical. Most people just assume that sneaky in and grab bengals are not allowed, not ethical. They are the honest tax payers, desirable citizens. Bad tip for public but truly that’s most successful people take. They shed that part never want to mention it later.
This video is full of practical advice! The idea of practicing being the last to speak in a conversation to truly understand others is brilliant. It's a simple yet profound way to improve communication and leadership skills.
It’s interesting how you chose the example that you wouldn’t do. You actually spent a couple of minutes of your valuable time.. Instead, focus on the good things that you agree on and you will go further
I do not believe in cutting in line because I feel like even though you think you’re getting what you want without hurting someone else it’s possible that someone down that line that has been waiting will not get a bagel because you took yours without being in line
The critical thing missing with this advice about reaching out to a friend misses the nuance of reaching out to the 'right kind of friend'. Reach out to the 'wrong friend' and you may end up in a worse place.
The bagel story: better ending would’ve been instead of waiting in the queue for 60 minutes, value your time and buy one. It cost way less than what you can own in 60 minutes. What value do you put on your time. Unless of course you want to socialise in the queue and enjoy the downtime. Pushing the queue, jumping ahead no matter how dressed up he put it, it was morally wrong.
You overlooked the point that by doing so, he forewent being able to CHOOSE the type of bagel he got by just helping himself...the people in the line held their place so that they could choose the flavour they most liked..nobody's going to beat someone up for that, be annoyed maybe, but also begrudgingly admitting to themselves that they too could help themselves if it didn't matter to them to accept whatever they got by random
IMO the bagel story is a huge red flag about integrity. It may reveal a (most often hidden) egocentric drive within this speaker. Another huge red flag is thinking this would be a good lesson to impart to others. Skipping to the front of the line is definitely putting yourself before others and very possibly stealing someone else's opportunity. It's not "Isn't it great that I think outside the box?" Everyone else has the same thought. "I dont want to wait on this line", but the others exercise self restraint which allows an orderly system for everyone.
LOL, the bagel story! There’s no transaction occurring so even a long line will move quickly. My dog taught me to never reach for food in front of him. Homey don’t play that game. 😂✅
Question: What if you’re in an online meeting and when a question is opened to the floor, no one speaks. How to practise being last to speak? How can I encourage others to speak up first?
Must be nice not getting punished for breaking rules. For some of us we get punished for breaking rules while hurting/obstructing no one and it happens again and again starting in childhood.
Leadership is a skill like any other is a practicable and it is something you work on like muscles . If u practice all the days , you will get good at it and you will get to become a strong leader and if you will stop practicing you will become a weak leader
Also missing the point of reaching out to friends when lonely. Oxytosin is the neurotransmitter of connection. Recieving emotional connection produces oxytosin. So does thinking about our friends and reaching out to them. It the perception of connection that creates oxytosin. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter of seeking /persuit. More like domination than connection.
Fantastic content! The anecdote about the foam cup was a great reminder that the respect and privileges we receive are tied to our position, not our person. Staying humble and grounded is so important.
One, If its s crime just mske sure u can get away with it..(2) make sure its really ur fault (3) make sure the one ur helping, wont pull u down (4) make sure ur opinion was not already mentioned..(5) if U ARE RICH U WILL HAVE UR OWN ' GOLDEN CUP'...
You are right,. However, it helps if I don’t look for perfection in someone who, sharing his best truth. Otherwise, I’ll miss all the good stuff. Use your own judgment and keep what’s good for you and let go of the rest.
I stopped watching at skipping in line to grab a bagel. How is skipping in the line not getting in the way of what somebody else want? Someone in line probably did not get their bagel
The lesson is that if you don't want to wait in line, sometimes there's a different sacrifice in that (don't wait in line=sacrificing choice, vs. waiting in line=sacrificing time) He didn't stop anybody else from getting their free bagels, he just snuck in and grabbed what he could reach. That's not stopping anybody else. It may not seem right- but that's not the point of what he was saying
It was about what your focus is on…are you focussed on what you want, or on the temporary obstacle that you need to ‘endure’ on your way to what you want?
In 2025, don’t start the year without getting expert advice for your financial goals. Consulting a financial advisor ensures you have a well-structured plan for success.
@@TunaIRL No, I wouldn’t. Is that considered the same as him skipping the line though?
@@dalinelightbourne4502 They have the exact same effect. The last person in line might not get any bagels because of them. Isn't that what you were considering?
Let's say there's 2 spots to get the same bagels. One where you can take your time, examine them and choose which one you want and another where you're just given a bagel and you go on your way.
One forms a queue and on the other one people just get their bagel and leave. No queue forms. Would you say you're worried about the people at the back of the queue not getting any bagels?
@@TunaIRL I guess I’m looking at it differently.
If he’s already in line waiting and someone skips the line versus he’s not in the line yet and someone deliberately runs faster to get in the line before him is different.
I’m looking at it like I got here first..I was already waiting…waiting on my turn. They have the same effect yes but the way they got to the effect is bothering me
@@dalinelightbourne4502 The person at the end of the queue could've ran faster.
It was Dr. Ignac Semmelweiss, not Dr. Holmes who made this discovery. The discovery and the resistance he met drew him mad.
Both doctor made the discovery around the same time and both were ridiculed and shunned by their peers..
It was a nurse Florence Nightingale in the First World War in the hospitals of the wounded that made the connection between poor hand hygiene and infection
Bravo👏👏 finaly somebody knows....
This is a film about the reality of who was the doctor who discovered the importance of hygiene:

Jumping the queue to get a free bagel. This tells you all about this person you need to know.
You're missing the point here. Maybe you already know all you need to know about life. So this video is NOT for you.
Exactly what I thought. Moves to another video after I heard this. He must not be from the US otherwise he would not be giving this advice now
One doesn't want the bagel enough to wait, so the other just parts two people, grabs two bagels and thats called initiative. "No one said anything (to a white guy) or had to wait longer. "
Secret Pathway To Triumph blew my mind. I’ve shared them with friends, and they’re all amazed at the shifts in their mindset.
Exactly!!!
I was struggling to make this point. Thank you for stating it so elegantly and backing yourself up with Kant's "thing".
Regarding the bagel story the reality of life is that no one is perfect in thought or in actions. We are all part of the human condition

Wow...I teary-eyed listening to this, truly resonates as a human being, too much accurate. 🙌
Grabbing those bagels in the hood would not have ended so peacefully 😂
The video is about 5 lessons learned from Simon Sinek. Here are the lessons:
Rule number one: go after what you want.
There is 50 minutes of pure gold advise and some people in comments are just hung up on the bagels

I will work to earn and buy bagels. I will not waste time in a line to get it "free". That's the attitude of Simon's friend, and I like it.
Very grateful to have stumbled upon this today
The concept of Secret Pathway To Triumph blew my mind. It’s like finding a cheat code for financial abundance.
Once again, thank you Simon. I wish our company president could see and really hear this. He really needs to. I'd probably be told that if I am unhappy - there's the door.
It was not the man you mentioned. The real man who realized the importance of washing hands was Semmelweis in Hungary.
just what I wanted to add as a comment 🙏
I added this before I saw your comment
I thought it was Florence Nightingale🤔
@@shonaghsoutar5966 I think her contribution was something else. She did similar things in Crimea and India.
Yes, Florence Nightingale was credited with improving hand washing in war hospitals (particularly the Crimea) to reduce infections.
It’s just as important today but pre 1920’s (when antibiotics came in) more so.
Thanks for the early morning inspiration. Simple life lessons, put across with lot of conviction and clarity.

I agree. I am not a big fan of breaking the rules concept just to get what you want. This is so American idio*ology😅
Agree, I was very close to not listening after hearing that example of selfish behaviour
This has really touched me so much.. so much relating to my life. Working hard to be a better version of myself
Thank you for your most valuable advice. I do my best to be that way with my friends old & new. Empathy is a good medicine for both sides. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
One of the best lectures
I am always amazed by the very simple lessons contained in Simon Sinek,s podcasts.
😊
Yep.

How is this having such an emotional effect on me? Damn.

Fwiw, Mental health means it's okay to be sad. It's synonymous with mental fitness.
The critical thing missing with this advice about reaching out to a friend misses the nuance of reaching out to the
'right kind of friend'.
😊
Yes.
Great points!
About point 2 - unfortunately we find too late that the Bible has great life rules. One of them is - to wash after some procedures.
You still prevented other people getting their bagel sooner. I am surprised you didn’t get beaten up for cutting the line
@@sueheath2621 I see it now - thanks for explaining it and that is actually what I do in my life. Cheers!
Thank you Simon. This changes everything.
Iuiiuuuuiiiuiiiuuuuuuiiky😮iu😅y😅no yup I uh iyyyuyi I just i😢and que my
When something does actually break , when something goes wrong instead of yelling and screaming and taking over you say try again .
LOL, the bagel story! There’s no transaction occurring so even a long line will move quickly. My dog taught me to never reach for food in front of him. Homey don’t play that game. 😂✅
As you gain fame , fortune, position and seniority then people will treat you better

Also, asking for help is humbling. It's not humiliating unless the other person is a jerk about it (thats what humiliating literally means)

No, everybody got the bagel, he just hot his a bit sooner :-)
It was about what your focus is on…are you focussed on what you want, or on the temporary obstacle that you need to ‘endure’ on your way to what you want?
Are you focused on the line or what you really want.
