@@Lord_Tubi you know, I don’t see it demonstrated like this. With raw, sincere vulnerability and intimacy. Just my opinion. Not coming at you. Arthur and Tommy’s relationship was so special for me to witness. @@Deelitee Yeah I appreciate the way you responded. I'm just a cinephile and have watched countless good movies that tackle that exact thing your talking about over the course of an entire movie or series. The world of cinema is massive and basically the best way of putting it is: If its a topic, a movie has already been made about it.
Paul Anderson really nailed the sense of grief in Arthur here. Just imagine, being the eldest brother of the family, yet arguably having the worst luck or fewest accomplishments. While the rest had their own spouses and children and businesses, he barely managed to hold down legitimate work, had a marriage that fell apart, was addicted to drugs for years, and relapsed time and time again into violence when he sought out God's promise. Yet through it all, it was his brothers that pulled him through. And it was his love for them that kept him soldiering on. But now, with one long passed and the other soon to leave, he'll be alone. He, who should've been taken so many times over, would be the last brother left. In Arthur's mind, I can imagine his grief mixing in with his fears.
The way Tommy keeps collected after everything that is happening and have his older brother crying and STILL says “C’mon, we have work to do” that is why he deserved to be in charge
This show displayed one of the best written, and several of the most INCREDIBLY acted roles, in a series of all time. Yesterday I began it all over again.. for the third time, in five yrs. It’s THAT good
That’s the power of grief.. You could be the most composed, intelligent and wise person in the room. But the moment you hear you lost a loved one or have only so much time left in this world… you break. It’s like your entire shell shatters and you need to stand against something or sit down. This is why I consider Thomas Shelby one of my favorite fictional characters. When he finally breaks down, you feel his pain.
This scene is so powerfull that it shows the duty of man. Even in face of death it s important to do what is needed to be done for your family and loved ones and make their future secure. This is true essence of masculinity. love this scene ❤❤
Mosely thought by falsely diagnosing Tommy he had the upper hand. All that diagnosis did to Tommy was make him forget to apply the brakes in every regard. He made sure his entire family was set before he died. From Charles and Lizzie all the way to Arthur & Linda. He made the Chinese stop dealing opium mainly so his brother's addiction would stop. Now that he knows he's not sick, who knows what he'll be able to do?
I never noticed before that at 1:28, Arthur knocked over the picture of Tommy’s kids when he kicked the table. Even though it’s probably an accident, it fits so well at this point of the show. 😦
"....and before that, I will be going to Canada to collect payment for the shipment: 5 MILLION POUNDS! Which I will share among the Shelby family, and that will be my legacy; instead of me, there will be money. Because for most of the people who are close to me, THAT IS WHAT I AM!....fuckin' money-that is my agency." Although Arthur shows Tommy that this isn't true, society makes damn sure every man feels this at one point.
I'm watching this show, just season 2, have no idea what's going on but still broke my heart... Athur is the most emotional man in this family. Love him
First Jonny boy then Tommy, where the fuck you think you are going and leaving Arthur to bury his young brothers. But hey, we all agreed after France, all this is extra, and let's make the better out of it. Drink and keep walking.
Arthur loves his brothers so much.. all he wants was for them to succeed even if he has so much struggles on his own😞 Thats a real big brother and thats what i try to be for my own brothers even if i am not doing good for myself
Facts One brother is Dead, the other is a snitch and one thought he was dying, he thought he was loosing all his brother whom he basically spent all his life with he was gonna be completely alone he had Ada and Charlie but let’s be real they not Tommy and John.
This will always be the true 'Teleharmonic Phaser' for me. Not the official release in the album that sounds like garbage. The smile really missed the mark on this one.
There are so many layers to unpack in this scene, but the major thing that hit home hard for me was how unloved Tommy feels by his family. Yes, he's put them in harm's way, but they were pretty ruthless as well. There is a sadness and visceral resentment by his belief that he's not good for anything else among them but money. But I don't think he'd let anyone love him because he hates himself. Grace was the only one who showed her love for him, and she's long gone at this point. It's just really sad.
May and Lizzy loved him too, because of that they encouraged him to be his best self. He just refused to accept their feeling. Also Polly was like a mother for him after he loses his own, even if she criticized him from time to time. He closed himself emotionally deliberately (by whatever reason he done) than now he is wandering why his life is loveless.
2:31 what a fucking scene bro, what an fabulous piece of art of work of acting, the way Arthur said that is soo satisfying like throughout the series you can see Tommy always talk business try to avoid emotions and sometimes it's badass sometime it's irritating but here Arthur represents every watchers of this show from all these years, like he's done with his over Stoic personality and private behaviour, he said "fuck your contracts" he's the only one at that moment who can say that to that man of power...🌟🌟

I was pretty calm during most of that scene but Arthur raising his drink to John's portrait is what did it for me, I immediately started tearing up.
exactly the same for me, i cant hold it after that toast

Their hug before the scene ends brings tears, cause big brother didn't want to let little (middle) brother go. 😢😢

Poor you. Men can be pathetic!
It actually is true, even your family (parent, wives, children) won’t respect/love you if you’re insufficient financially. It’s a cold hard truth.
One of the many excellent scenes from Peak Blinders. The entire cast, production and behind the scene crew & people. Bravo!

Tommy Shelby = Bruce Wayne (10005)
The absolute DUMBEST scene ever. A supposed mastermind like Thomas Shelby doesn't get a second opinion. Flat out bad writing.
Shut up.
It would be if you forget that he's thinking that he deserves it, that he knows he's a bad person. He's always been kind of suicidal.
He did get a second opinion, the doctor he got said second opinion from was also told to confirm his false diagnosis
Except he DID get a second opinion rewatch the last episode that doctor was dirty too. Or just learn to enjoy things lol
