Luca’s ego and desire to keep Thomas alive while he killed everyone else was what ultimately led to his demise. He could’ve very easily killed Thomas in their first encounter, which would’ve made things play out a lot differently. But he let his thirst for revenge cloud his judgement

@@bigdog1002 Why are you talking about John's death? We're talking about Luca here. Luca really could've easily killed Tommy but he didn't. He definitely has an ego. Imagine leaving America visiting Tommy and waiting until you make a mistake. While Luca is playing games with Tommy making fun of him yada yada, Tommy was here having every single one of Luca's ally in America killed until he was the only one left which you can clearly see in the show is what happened. The Mafia that was once loyal to Luca were only loyal to the ones who gives them more money. Luca was a sitting duck. No allies, absolutely nothing. Just his ego that led to his downfall.

Ego and a need for vengeance. He could have easily killed Tommy, but wanted him to suffer, by hurting those around him first. Gave Tommy time to catch him off-guard and come up with a plan to take him out. Tommy knew all this and completely outplayed him.

the problem was luca was projecting power in a non cosa nostra territory where luca being whacked would have zero effect in igniting a war and someone like al capone would utilise working with a native in the UK who was trustable an clever to 1. take out luca 2. have ties to a different non italian organisation which has an advantage so luca should of just killed his adversary asp instead of talking about who dresses better an has a bigger stick but deffo should of made a 50 - 50 deal an went back to NY if don corleone met Tommy he would of been impressed an had long years of success

Tommy read the script in the corner of the room. He made phone-calls off screen, to people we never met. Agents that we've never seen were sent to take care of men we didn't know existed, so that Tommy Shelby could win yet again. The sooner people realize everything after Season 3 is just an excuse for Steven Knight to make punk-rock music videos with a coal-punk aesthetic the sooner people will realize that the writing in this show is really atrocious after the Russian-nobility story arc.

    • @mertcanpa6962

I think thats is explained by two points. For first Tommys alone in the room, when he grabs the bottle, he therefor is a couple of minutes/hours early to what is going to happen, then the scene is blend in and his fam is with him. And secondly, think about the meaning of not wearing a tie, even tho you couldve, it makes tommy look more concerned, that he doesnt care how he looks when he clearly knows he is going to die, a psychological and therefor strategic way to say, “I’m already effed up, end it already”. You could argue that a man, who is willing to die wouldnt bring a weapon, but the gun he brings is also just to make luca believe they still are in war, that tommy still wants to protect himself. (Technically I dont know what the sacripters were thinking, its just interpretation. I dont like this scene tbh because its to stiff, tommy only uses 3-4 sentences, even tho we couldve had much more of a discussion, luca on the other hand takes his time with killing them).

They might have done it in order to surprise 100% of the audience, but it felt too easy and convenient. I believe they should have given us crumbs of hints so that you can see it coming when rewatching at least. Maybe a dialogue where someone refers to how all the blood-related men have died and another early in the show where someone refers to Luca coincidentally also having to leave the US because things were getting heated... Still, despite the questionable writing, it was marvellously executed.

    Agreed.
The end of Brody on screen in this role couldn’t come soon enough. To have him go out as turbocheesy as he came in, all the while stinking-up the whole show along the way, was, if nothing else, consistent.
This show came and went by the end of season two, with scant positives to select from from there. Pity. Such as truly fantastic show up until then. Can’t say enough about how excellent it was - from the acting (absolutely fantastic btw) and cinematography, to the sound editing and music & soundtrack. Absolute kino!
And as I’ll post in the main comment section following this: what a HORRIBLE miscast. SERIOUSLY, wut theee fug? Who knew it was even possible to OVERACT this much?! Amazing.
My niece could be a more believable and appropriately immersive Italian mafia tough guy.
Such an unbelievably massive disparity betwixt Brody’s painfully forced “no no, really guys, I really am actually a very serious and untraspooky bad@55, ummkay” and Hardy’s seemingly effortless and fully immersive “merchant” of mayhem. They’d have done better to scrap the character altogether than to subject the lovingly-committed and painfully-eager audience to such a glaring failure of character (and by extension storyline(s) and universe).
Don’t even get me started with the increasingly hamfisted antifa and BLM bingo card and sing-along of societal grievances that were OF COURSE altogether absent in 1920’s England. Anyhow, I digress. Before it went full “pride month” and “content of character was actchuallly the opposite of what society needs” this was the best show on television in YEARS!

Probably the worst character because it was just a mix of Italian stereotypes that have always been done; the actor didn’t even try, so he just WAY overacted and looked cartoonish. He ain’t Brando…
