I’ve always wondered why NONE of these defense armors take into account the need to also protect the *STOMACH* …and the abdomen/groin area! 🤔 And what about the side edges of the torso. These plate typically don’t even cover the full HEART! ❤️ We don’t want to take a bullet *ANYWHERE!* 😬
Most plates don’t cover the stomach because it will block mobility so it stops at the navel. There are likely stomach armor out there but not likely level 4. Most armor plates cover a large surface area on the upper torso and the heart is no exception. The heart is at the middle of your chest, leaning towards your left arm so a plate will cover that well.
I wore body armor for 15 years and the answer to your question is a couple reasons. First, it's tough to bend over and do common things like sit, drive, etc. if a panel covered your stomach. The top would hit your throat, being pushed up from the bottom. Also, the abdomen is less critical to protect when you consider the thoracic region has targets that will take you out very quickly.
I swapped this out. I wear the Hyperline with FRAS plates. I also carry a custom Glock 21 in a shoulder holster with 2 spare 17 round mags along with a P365 XL custom in a Ambi position with 2 spare mags as well. I usually have two fixed blades and the OTF El Max and Socom Elite Auto from Microtech in my front and back left pockets for my pants and a custom tungsten blackjack in my right pocket. I also carry a backpack with ballistic inserts (this current body armor. I put both plates in there for inserts), IWA flashbangs, Enolagaye Mil X smoke grenades/Airsoft BB grenades as civi Cs stinger improvised grenades and my hacker setup for my flipper Zero, M5 stack ESP-32 marauder and ACID info Device.
As someone who has taken 9mm to the vest.. I'd rather run trauma pads and be more bulky.. lol. My ribcage got rocked and I was wearing a safelife 3a external carrier with pads. Still rocked me

Soft fabric won't ever be great at stopping stabs. You want solid plates, or maille made from steel. We've been using maille to stop blades for over 2000 years now, because it's effective and easy to wear.
Imma have a whole set up soon i broke my ribs and knee so im gonna grab probably a whole ballistic vest to protect everywhere knee pads in LA police gear pants and a motorcycle jacket trust me braking ribs and a knee is not fun at all
