    Yo people! Hope you find this one interesting. Apologies on the delay between videos, this one just took me ages because I was trying to learn a few new things whilst editing. I had to brush over a few sections to keep it a digestible length, so I have certainly not done the topic justice and would encourage you to do some further reading if you are so inclined. Anyway, enjoy, and like my video plzz xx

      Hey man, I have been following you since the food vids, you're an interesting guy. would you ever be open-minded to religion? don't have to participate in it, but just try to learn the basics? HEAR ME OUT because even if you don't believe in religion, they usually have morals and ethics people have to follow, give greater purpose and increases life quality overall. I'd say checkout Jordan Peterson. Have a good day.

    This might be the most important video you’ve ever done. People still don’t realise how important good sleep is, it’s EVERYTHING. Seriously, it’s the foundation of your entire life. I’m 37 and had been a notoriously poor sleeper my entire adult life. Too late to bed, too much substance abuse, lying there on my phone until my eyes burned. Poor quality sleep, dragging myself out of bed in the morning at the very last moment before I could realistically arrive at work on time. My days were never good.
    Then during lockdown I decided to fix it. I went to bed at the same time every night (9:30 to bed, sleep at 10:30), left my phone downstairs in the kitchen, and I read a book for a short while before sleeping. I started waking up naturally at 7am, full of energy, ready to attack the day. This is the natural high, this is the bedrock of your entire life, if you have any aspirations to achieve in your life, you MUST make quality sleep your #1 priority.

    I achieved a new level of clarity recently. It was done with good sleep, quitting all substances (even caffeine in the morning affects sleep and mood - with a half life of 6hrs, a quarter of it is still in the system 12 hrs later), and also reducing carbs/gluten.

  • @dereks8984
    @dereks8984 3 года назад +5

    I've always been a Joey D fan but these types of videos are class.
    I've got blue light glasses which have helped me to stay asleep ( I assume).
    I've eradicated any substance which can impact my sleep (caffeine mainly) and I've started to go to bed between 10/10:30pm and will usually sleep at 11pm with the joys of working getting me up at 6:30/7am.
    Now I don't nap or want to and although my work isn't easier now but I somehow feel more confident in my ability and my critical thinking and problem solving has improved.
    I've got no idea why I thought any of this would be worth reading but I've done it now.

  • @ilynomad
    @ilynomad 3 года назад +6

    What helps me a lot: 1) using blue light filters on both my PC and phone
    2) stretching my entire body before going to bed (takes about 15 minutes) in absolute darkness. This makes me (and my muscles) more relaxed when actually lying in bed.

    The “Revenge Bedtime Procrastination” fact is by far and away the most relevant and interesting fact I’ve heard in a RUclips video in years. I do it all the time and I always feel so guilty about it - it’s very reassuring to hear it’s not just some horrid flaw of mine, but a common phenomenon.
    Most of the content I watch is ‘educational’ and so many of those videos are crammed with filler and knowledge that most people know if they’re vaguely familiar with a topic. This video is jam packed, yet concise and just fucking top quality mate.

    I'm currently going through a melatonin detox (as in I stopped taking melatonin supplements) after reading that it can have adverse effects on sleep quality and cause daytime sleepiness. I've taken it regularly for the past 5 years to be able to fall asleep, and while it did help with falling asleep, I haven't noticed an improvement in sleep quality and it seemed to have caused me to sleep forever without an alarm and be sleepy throughout the day. I'm now three weeks in and it has gotten much easier falling asleep without it, so I'm optimistic. Just my experience for those thinking about supplementing melatonin.

    Hey biochem student at Rutgers here, sleep allows your body to recover (like Joe was saying), BUT to be more specific, your cells undergo processes that help them recover and your body kills damaged cells (which is good as damaged cells can lead to cancer). Additionally a regular sleep cycle is crucial for health, an irregular sleep cycle (same with sleeping less that 8 hours) can increase risks of cancer, Alzheimer's, heart disease, and pretty much any negative consequence on your mind and body that you can imagine

    Hi Joe, I just found your channel through the Natural High series and I'm really into the series already!
    I'm a personal trainer / health coach and work a lot with Physiotherapists.
    Something the Physios pointed out to me was that most health (coaching) interventions are usually not for the poor(er). These people usually do not have the luxury to try these interventions and so the Physios advised me to focus on basic psychological and physical needs and to see where the biggest frustration with these needs is.
    Ofcourse you are looking for the high and not the baseline but I still wanted to mention it.
    Again, I'm very excited for this series and curious what knowledge you are going to bring in these videos!

    Just jumping in this with some recommendations:
    Ideally avoid lavender as a man, there is evidence showing that it can increase estrogen and enhance gyno related sides.
    Melatonin is very inaccurately dosed and tablets are often hugely more than what you body generates and as it accumulates and depletes your essentially just extending the effects into the next day (i.e. making yourself more tired).
    Short term doxylamine works really well but you don't want dependency.
    Magnesium and Apigenin (the compound in camomile) have the strongest evidence for helping sleep. Dr huberman podcast is really good for research on these sort of topics.
    I'd love for you to give mushrooms a go Joe (Reishi, cordocepts lions main etc, not the magic kind... Well maybe )

    20C at night seems very warm, that's what I set it to in the day

    Chamomile tea really helps me, i used to hate the taste but now my tastebuds just think, yeah its not that bad but id rather grow a pair and drink it if it helps me sleep and i really believe it does

    As someone that’s always struggled with sleep I appreciate this video thanks. I stay up super late & I’m sleeping like 10/11 hours a night atm & still feeling tired. Problem is I set an alarm as I don’t want to waste the day in bed but end up just falling asleep again. Viscous cycle, need to be disciplined to break out of it

      i used to be like this. the staying up super late part. i fixed it by slowly working my way back to a earlier time. i would go to bed 30mins earlier then what i had been. stuck to that same time for 1 week. then went back another 30mins. and then repeat till got to the time where i want to be going to bed every night. and also make sure the very 1st thing you do when you wake up is get up. then open your curtains to let the light in. it helps wake you up
