I like how each sd1 division tells a story like how the French resistance group starts with stolen tanks and guns in phase a but ends with a full american armor group in deployment phase c
@@theShermanator i am actually trying to play through all the missions and i realized the AI exactly knows where your units are. they try to avoid everytime my hardpoints. that is frustrating to play against a maphack AI.
Steel Division 2 is really hard if you play the campaign as germann because you have to set up every single defensive positions, every single trench...
I disagree ,because the AI attack direction is very predictable so you can easily set up chokepoints and killzones to cheese them. In fact, in the death on the Vistula campaign, i went so far as destroying most of the Soviet divisions in defensive battles, went on the offensive, and would have annihilated the entite soviet army had the campaign not ended.
Which campaign did you find hard? Maybe the harfest one was Orsha but I think it wasn't that hard. Imagine we would have a game like SD2 campaign for the whole eastern front. This would be epic
I probably prefer Normandy 44 to the second game for about 2 reasons: 1) almost every division on both sides feels really unique, whereas soviet divisions in SD2 have a real similiarity problem 2) the UI and art overall looks much better than SD2, I dunno if it was for budget reasons but things like unit cards just look ugly to me in SD2
I really like this game. I appreciate the zoom in closer to see terrain and camouflage on tanks. Most people who put videos up don't zoom in enough. I would definitely watch if you posted more 👍
4:28 well, yes if you want less micro managing. But for example, some artillery weapons have a long reload time, so you want to control it manually and not have them waste their shot on 1 guy. (At least in Gates of Hell)
Close Combat was way better, especially the CC3 with some mods. CC does simulate the troop, the SD has a simple rock/paper/scissor+math decision which is great for turn based strategy, but not for real time. I think the best strategy for offline is the Graviteam Tactics series with full troops simulation and proper physics.
Hold fire is more of a multiplayer function as in Steel Division 2 i will use hold fire on my Arty and Mortars so they stay hidden until i need to target something and when they are compromised i can make them hold fire again then move them so they keep attacking the area where my Arty isn't anymore
I actually agree. I only got Steel Division 2 for the multiplayer which I still haven't used yet lol The gameplay of Steel Division 1 just feels smoother in a way which is strange because it should be rougher and older but it just feels nicer.
Wargame EE had supply vehicles where you could drive them up to automatically resupply squads and vehicles, they also could go back to a FOB to get supplies
if you're moving up with enemy resistance it's good to let the units fire on contact. but if you are planning on an ambush setup that would be a pretty bad idea.
Maybe it's just me, but did anyone play Ground Control from Massive Entertainment back in the day? A lot of the deck customization reminded me of that game considering what you bring in is what you work with (one thing I really appreciated in that game as well is how veterancy carries throughout the missions. So the more you use certain units, the more experience they get and the better they are). Glad to see SD:1944 and SD2 still have living communities out there :D

I feel like sdn44 was slightly too low in unit numbers leading to snowballs often as a single tank dying usually could kill you which with 1 pen kills and dice rolls could happen
I redownloaded SD1 to check out. I think the issue is how little phase C gives you as a bonus. In SD2 phase C is usually more than 100% of what you get from phase A. But in SD1 the phase difference is only a little notable. Only the most spam 10 point units give more than double the amount. Otherwise you only get 1-3 extra unit per phase (SD1) instead of double (SD2). The amount of unit cards increasing per phase is most likely why SD2 feels more spam.
