Jimmy Page was using a violin bow across the strings of his electric guitar for that part you are talking about, and yeah it's really cool how they pan it from one side to the other like something speeding by. Amidst all the other chaos and oh my God I love John Bonham's drumming so much. But then again jpj is masterful bass player and creates wonderful Ambiance on the keys. They were all so talented.❤

Jimmy Page, the guitarist, took the side of the pick and slides it over the lower strings from the upper to the lower register to get the sound you mentioned. Certainly rock! 69.
At the time, the undisputed greatest hard rock band on earth. Robert Plant on vocals, Jimmy Page Lead Guitar, John Paul Jones on bass guitar and tha late great John Bonham on drums. I was fortunate enough to see them play live on a number of occasions back then (and once, I sat only eight rows from the front, and was deaf for a week afterwards)! Great memories. 🙋♂
Not only is this rock (by category) ...this IS rock (as in, this song encapsulates the pure essence of rock.) Led Zep was, and always will be, the pinnacle of hard rock. Written by Willie Dixon and released in 1962 by Muddy Waters. Covered by The small faces in 1963/4 ( This is where Led Zeppelin got the sound from) Also covered by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac in 1967/68 Covered by Savoy Brown too. Then Finally Led Zeppelin got hold of it in 69 and passed it off as their own creation. I urge anybody to listen to all versions, particularly The Small faces, its uncanny
That legendary guitar riff was essentially the Top of the Pops theme for much of the 70s, but from a cover version of this track. If you dig out some old TOTP clips from about '72 onwards, you may well hear it. As for Led Zep, aside from Stairway to Heaven, you may want to listen to Kashmir.
My very first car, I paid $1295 for the car and installed a $900 stereo. And this was late 70's, so it was something special (the stereo, the car not so much). The part you're talking about used to go from one front speaker to the other and then to the back and across and around again. So it circled around the car in a anti-clockwise direction. It was wild.
Check out led zeplin, kashmir live at celebration day , they're much older but still awesome , Jason bonham on drums the son of the original drummer Jon bonham who passed away in the early 80s I think
Back then, the start of the 1979s, stereo was slowly starting to be used. Then, everything was mono - records, radio TV there was no stereo - for the first time with headphones you could here the location of each instrument in your head. See how new technologies were used and investigated was the sound engineers and the band members. In 1975, I actually built my own stereo amplifier because then, to buy a commercial amp was way beyond my pocket.
Well…it was about sex. And back then, that was GREAT. Women were so happy to finally be able to express their appreciation of sexuality after the very strait-laced 50’s that we were enthusiastic about VERY sexy and sensual songs and rockers. Robert Plant was ….geez…..so damn gorgeous and sexy. The way he said “Woman” …..yummy. Now, younger people seem more prudish with their music, except for certain rappers and of course porn everywhere. Kjnda weird to me.
The “car” sound is produced by dragging a guitar pick down the strings. Then the recording engineer moves from one side to the other using the recoding console.
Great, everything is great, when it comes to Zeppelin. In your comments at the end of this song I didn't hear you. Refer to the subject of the song and I don't know if that's something that you didn't catch or you weren't focused on as far as the lyrics are concerned, but this song is a 100% about sex. And? If he couldn't tell in general, there's about 3 references in the song that would give it away. Anyway,1969, sex, drugs and Rock and roll. "...... I'm going to give you every inch of my love....." ".... I'm gonna be your back door man......"
Back door man is a reference to a woman that is cheating on her husband/boyfriend. As her main man goes out the front door, her side fling comes in through the back door. Or when hubby comes home, the other sneaks out the back door.
@@jerryward3311 Correct. That is one of the 2 references or definitions. Your example is the PG one. The second is "the sodomizing of an active partner....."
When you continue going down the Britis band part of the classic rock rabbit hole ...dont miss Pink Floyd..the Moody Blues..Cream..Blind Faith..Traffic..Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart "Truth"..Jethro Tull..the Who..and the Yerdbirds..
Definitely the 70's. And, likely during the time when bands and fans were most likely high on something be it weed, LSD or mushrooms? So, yeah, the psychedelic experience on this one for sure. Then, I went to the theater to watch 2001 A Space Odyssey. 😎 ~ California.
Rere, I think you understand the words to this tuneful melody. I’m not sure you wanted to admit that you understood the lyrics! Maybe another listen would help? Jeff

❤❤❤Robert ❤❤❤
This is rock....although at that time no one cared about genre. There was no electronic catalogue of songs on iTunes to sort....it was a vinyl record.
HAMMER OF THE GODS................Peace!
"...... I'm going to give you every inch of my love....."
".... I'm gonna be your back door man......"
Back door man is a reference to a woman that is cheating on her husband/boyfriend. As her main man goes out the front door, her side fling comes in through the back door. Or when hubby comes home, the other sneaks out the back door.

Correct. That is one of the 2 references or definitions. Your example is the PG one. The second is "the sodomizing of an active partner....."
Backdoor man refers to the lover who leaves by the Backdoor as your spouse comes in front door
Robert didn't see that one coming.......Peace!
Double meaning.
The lyrics are hot. 😪🤣🤭
You might try TOTO, Africa. Kansas, Every Step the Way. Moody Blues, Ride My Seesaw. There's so many great classic Rock music 🎶
Fyi Back door man Is woman's lover or side piece: the husband comes in the front door and the lover sneaks out the back door
I call it Rock !!! Check Dazed and Confused live at MSG To see how that psychedelic is made !
It's a nice, romantic love song. And by the way, you are so cute!
when you slide the guitar pick sideways over the strings gives you that car effect.
If the strings are steel-wound.
Also, the guitar was being bowed in this song, as with a cello bow.
Definitely the 70's. And, likely during the time when bands and fans were most likely high on something be it weed, LSD or mushrooms? So, yeah, the psychedelic experience on this one for sure. Then, I went to the theater to watch 2001 A Space Odyssey. 😎 ~ California.
This song was released in '69.
Rere, I think you understand the words to this tuneful melody. I’m not sure you wanted to admit that you understood the lyrics! Maybe another listen would help? Jeff
