Busted a rod. This was the 7th full track day with the turbo installed, tune was good. Got too hot, oil pressure too low probably, and too much abuse for a few years for the stock motor.
Ryan LaBarre thank you! its kinda difficult to find out about putting boost to the mazdas. I try to research parts for a mazda and end up looking at mazdaspeed parts. but thanks for the reply.
Unlucky :( It looked RAPID before your problem though! I take it you noticed a big difference with the GT28 over the standard turbo? Coilovers look good too. I love the gauges, I wasn't willing to fork out nearly £200 for the pod gauge though thanks to high postage to England.
With the regular Mazda 3 you should run max 8.5 psi unless you upgrade your rods and pistons then you can boost more. I'm going to boost mine soon I just want to find a good tuner first in my area.
I'm sure this car is a normal Mazda 3, extensively modified, as I'm the owner and builder... ~250wtq and 260whp at ~9psi on the Tri-Point engineering turbo kit. And much lighter curb weight than an MS3.
Opening the hood caused the small oil fire to expand rapidly, and I knew that would happen; I waited for a couple guys with fire extinguishers to come over, then we opened it safely and put it out quickly...
what gave in the motor??? pistons? rods? crank?? tuning issue? trying to figure out what needs to be changed in theses motors that will support 400hp

@reynaldo77 thanks for the answer. for stock internals thats still pretty impressive. :D
how much boost did you run? I want to turbo mine but for fuel economy and power, so to like 8-10 psi
how much for the turbokit?
why do you think this happened??
Is this a sedan?!?

what happened? did a rod break?
what caused the engine to blow up ? was it to much power on the stock motor ? Did you fix your engine now?
im sure this car is a mazdaspeed3 and stock turbo is 18psi...?? did you downsize the car cause the speed is stock 280lbs and 260hp

Nope, hatch.
Well, I would expect a race driver to open the hood and have a look on what failed. You just care about your helmet and the camera...
