🛁 CLEANING old, dirty Calico Critters Sylvanian Families! A good scrub, and new outfits for some!

- Welcome back! On Sunday I decided to wash 5 of the Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters that came with our new (used) Carport Home, and in the process figured I might as well was some other bunnies that had gotten a little dusty.
In this video, I undress and scrub the figures (I didn't film all the scrubbing because it I couldn't get a good tripod angle), and I wash most of the clothing that the used figured were wearing. Two of them needed new outfits, so they got some fancy upgrades from the Grand Department Store!
I think they turned out pretty well - at least, much better than before!

Great timing! I have my first secondhand critters coming in the mail right now and I can tell that they’ll need a wash. I bought baby shampoo for them but I never thought to use dog shampoo, even though I already had it since I have a dog... 🤦🏻♂️how do you touch up the faded ear tips etc? I would love to see a video on that!
Awesome! It takes patience because you can't really submerge them, but they need to be fairly wet for the soap to get a good lather, then they need to be rinsed well. If you keep the water at a trickle you can run them under the faucet. Also it's best to use a soft tip brush (I just used what I had, but I was really gently). There's a video by Alex Sylvania (in Spanish, but easy to follow) where he touches up the ears with a sharpie (I have to find/buy a brown one for the bunny ears), it works perfectly, and I've used black sharpie to touch up hedgehog noses and so forth! Also Beccas Toy Collection has a much better critter cleaning video too - lots of tips!! Good luck!

I feel so bad, I got my first calico a month ago and he's all dirty, I've been taking him everywhere I go and he's already lost the color in his ears... I feel like a bad mother
No you're not a bad critter mom LOL! that's very common, and you can easily clean it and then use paint or a permanent marker to touch up the color! Good luck!

What do you do when your cailco critters fur come off and when the cat whiskers go down
That’s a tough one! There’s not much you can do for fur, but I have seen collectors color in the patches, it just depends on the type of critter and how bad the fur spot is. For whiskers, I have not done this, but you could clip them off all the way and very carefully superglue new whiskers on.

Oh boy I am very very late replying to this, I am so sorry, but if you are still curious, I got that as a small set from Japan. It came with the bench and a little fountain. I have also seen it in some UK sets from the early 2010s.
I had some extras I washed in the washing machine once to see what happened! Long story short, they looked like they had burn wounds. Flocking came off in patches. I let the grands have them. They can be rough with critters because they’re still so young. I buy extra critters on sale and let them play with those until they get older. I learned not to put them in the washing machine!😂
Poor critters LOL that’s so funny, yeah I bet all the knocking around did a number on their flocking. I’ve made blunders too, using Clorox to clean buildings for example (it takes off paint, eek!!), hey live in learn! 😆

I don’t know, I haven’t tried it and haven’t heard of others using anything other than gentle soap. I wish I could be more help! If you have a lighter colored critter in pretty rough shape, it probably wouldn’t hurt to try since they wouldn’t get much worse anyway! If it works, please let me know.
How do you clean the Persian cats???
Sorry for my late reply, but you can clean them like the other critters, only much gentler. I have spent time carefully coming out Persian cat fur with a dry soft toothbrush before getting using water. And when I wash, I never put the Persian cats directly underwater, I use a damp cloth or toothbrush, and very gently wash them that way.
