Instead of suing Roxor, Jeep needs to offer a competitive product!
Jeep made a Roxor 8 yrs ago and never brought it to market and then got mad when someone dared do it! I got my Roxor for 14k and with another 3k I have a 30mpg off road monster

Needs a basic 4 cylinder naturally aspirated with a 5 speed manual and a sub $25k price tag.

Forget the 4. My brother had the Pontiac 2.5 in his CJ7 and I had the 4.2 straight 6 in mine. The 4 won’t move a vehicle this heavy.

I think they are going to be forced to, Jeep sales are suffering due to the prices they are charging so creating a sub $30 grand vehicle would have some huge appeal, especially for single men

I had a bare bones 1976 Jeep in 1992 with no doors, no seatbelts, no top & no back seat but it had the 304 4bbl 3sp & I put some 33's on it & it took me everywhere I wanted to go & it was so much fun ✌💖☮
People commenting here and Nathan included, mentioning this should start $35k? You can go and build and order a 2-door Wrangler JL Sport for $34k including destination charges. Manual, no AC, doors with crank windows. Your dream is available right now. This should be $25k or less for me to consider. I got my JL two years ago for less than $30k, brand new, and again it’s still available below $35k MSRP.

I was thinking the same thing people just buy expensive wrangler JLUs and rubicon packages they forget a base model it less than 35,000 dollars, this needs a manual and to be under 25
Price a modern side by side and then look at how refined of a vehicle you are getting for that $25K.
Side by side prices are also insane. Still the fact is that you can get a Wrangler that’s way more refined than this concept (or any side by side) for less than $35k.
Some side by side are $35k and up. The fact that a Wrangler is same price or less with about $2k dealer profit included shows how much extra profit is baked into the SxS market.
@@spyder000069 side by sides are insane. You can get a Mahindra Roxor for $16k or so. It will probably be more reliable than anything Jeep has made in the last 30 years, but you've gotta jump through some hoops to make it road legal.

Yep, “cheap” is a relative term. Remember, Viper was first conceived as a cheap modern Cobra. I wonder how close Kei trucks can get to a Jeep. A friend’s flat fender MB is out in my yard. That’s a Jeep.

Jeep needs to listen to its fans/customers and build this with the same running gear and swaybar as the Rubicon! Keep up the good work TFL.
It looks like a 2024 CJ-5 and I'm here for it! My dad had a red 78, inline 6 when I was in diapers. Got rid of it before I even knew what vehicles were. This scratches a huge nostalgia itch for me.
It would need to come in under 25k or it’s pointless- the standard two door wrangler is already too expensive. The whole purpose of this would be to bring to market the basic off road capable vehicle of the past

Just get a side by side or a quad and have something with 10x the offroad capability.
That won't happen. They will slap on some suspension and call it a special run product and charge a premium.. People will buy it anyway.
I’m out on most side by sides and atvs as a replacement for a jeep. They’re crazy loud and have garbage transmissions for the most part. I guess I’m just an old fud yelling at clouds though. If I’m going off roading in a vehicle that isn’t refined, I’m riding my dirt bike.
With their current market strategy of insane prices? Nah, this is will be $34K and be a limited release.
Love my Roxor, plus the fuel efficiency and torque of the diesel is amazing. I also have doors, heat and AC if needed. I agree Jeep, Toyota and others need to get smart and make an affordable, stripped down 4x4. They would sell like crazy, so many desire them. Not everyone needs touch screen dashes, sensors everywhere, power seats and all the other junk that makes vehicles so expensive today.
Still will be over priced for what you get. Just like all vehicles. The cool factor would sucker many into buying one. No matter how not user friendly they are.
@@Wesmancan I own one and couldn't be any happier. The diesel is a game changer for me and not offered by anyone else with a small offroader in the states. I usually get 30 MPG and the torque is wonderful for off road adventures.
I have a Roxor and I built mine after the CJ look. Most aftermarket CJ parts fit my roxor. It is a beast Off road the manual I wouldn't have anything else. Love the simplistic design.
All that fancy stuff is cheap.
IF TOYOTA offered such a thing, I would camp put at the dealer waiting on one to come in.
Just checked out Jeep prices, wow! This Roxor is the real Jeep. Mahindra tractors are beasts. I have a Solis tractor made in India and it is a beast also. Everything heavy duty.
I had an IH Scout when I was a kid, no power steering, no power brakes, no gear synch, 4 cylinder that wouldn't go past 50 mph, low gearing...that was an SUV.
I had a 67 CJ5 with the dauntless 225 V6 with 488 finals and a warn overdrive. It was simple, economical, and a blast to drive, it’s only weakness being the normally aspirated carburetor. Small like the short-cut, and when you washed it, you did the interior with the pressure washer just like the exterior. Oh and it got 25 mpg. Just start printing that very same model with an EFI upgrade, disc brakes and a double reservoir master cylinder.
I had a 1968 with the same engine , overdrive and gear set up. I seem to remember I only got 13-16 mpg. What was I doing wrong? Remember they only a had 10 gal tank. I always thought the driveline drum type emergency brake was something that should be brought back. It worked great. I later put disc brakes front and rear, full floating rear axle, Dana 44 in the front, 4 speed with granny low and a twin stick on the Dana 18 ( like the first one had). Wish I had that CJ today. I still have a brand new Warn overdrive in the box. I burned one up and never forgot to check the tranny oil after that!

Don't get the manual with a 4X ....imagine halfway up steep hill and start struggling / slipping....then having to navigate in that milisecond situation with engine bogging in 1st because one wasn't quick enough to clutch it....then backwards down the hill you go out of control....
You don’t drive manual for sure. 😃 The break is included in manual Jeeps too.
@@barrya.62121. There is a pedal next to the clutch called a "brake" that will handle that. 2. manual transmissions in an off-road vehicle has been the standard for decades 3. vehicles don't usual roll backwards while still in gear, especially in the low gear ranges of an off-road vehicle.
Anyone who advocates for a manual transmission doesn’t off-road. Period haha.
The interior is the best part. No screens or electronic whizz bang features to glitch out after you pay it off.
It will end up with a screen as they said due to backup camera being required but it can be a simple screen that only shows camera and can be small.
@@JamesSmullins true, even so, a simple screen or camera would be easy to replace in the future if needed since it’s not responsible for running any other systems.
@@Iberian247Since they have to put a backup camera in place I would much rather have it included into the rear view mirror like some other vehicles. Much sleeker and simpler than a full dash screen

Long 4 turbo diesel, 5 Spd, AC, power steering, 4x4, low 4 transfer case, power brakes. basic hardtop with soft doors and call it OTR (On the Rox). YOU WOULD GET ONE TOO!
Reminds me of my 1978 CJ5… Bare Bones, V8 and 3-speed manual… Rolled it over January 1979… Seat belt and roll bar saved my life… two or three years later the government advised that they were subject to rolling over… Lucky me.
Jeep needs to look at the global market: Jimny. 4 Cylinder N/A, small size, etc. It could sell in international markets and would be a hit in US/Canada.

We had small SUVs in the US. Just look up the sales numbers, Americans don't want them. We just say we do.
Almost nobody wants that. If given the option of 4 cylinder and small V8 like the old 318 5.2L, people would choose the V8 in a CJ-5 sized vehicle.
@@jumboshrimps4498 BC the automakers have to jack up the prices to cover the costs of complying with our regulations. At that point yes a customer is gonna spend a few grand more for a larger vehicle w a V8. If they were sold as is, they would be $10-20k and tons of people would buy them.

I drive a shortened, two door, affordable Wrangler. It is an ancient 1997 Jeep Wrangler that I bought in 1996. She was such a baby when we started our long journey together. But, mine has a 5 speed manual transmission and an AMC 242ci I6 engine. She has heat. She had power steering, booster brake, electronic ignition, port fuel injection, lights, soft top, soft doors, that is it. My dear RMS Stargazer now has 446,000 miles and climbing. I love you Stargazer. I love you forever.

@@msmith2016 The Timebender is hidden in a cave, in an American national park. I used it last about 2022 to return to Lanulose to get important items and return to 2019 to stop human extinction. Obviously, my strategy worked. 2022 passed again and most humans are still alive with a time paradox mostly avoided. The Timebender must be used with great care and consideration of the effects it could have on reality. I had to spend 42 cycles to learn how to operate it and how to use it responsibly.
I had that EXACT same Jeep, but it had A/C too and of all the Jeeps I've owned, (which is SO many. I LOVE Jeeps) that was without question my FAVORITE Jeep. I miss That thing everyday. Every other Jeep I had after that, just never could quite match that TJ. In my personal opinion, that was the best Jeep they ever made. I feel your loss. I'd give up any car, truck or Jeep I've ever owned to get that one back. My name for that Jeep was Sherianna. Named it after my super hot girlfriend who was the "one that got away". Amazing how they both ended up being "the one that got away." I was so dumb to sell that for a newer one. I fell for the marketing hype of the Rubicon Sherianna was FAR superior Jeep by far. I had a Dana 60 in the rear with an electronic locker and a Dana 44 in the front with a full-time custom made quarter turn locker. The way it worked is for every time the free spinning tire turned 1 rotation, the other tire would turn 1/4 of a rotation. That way you didn't get the chirping when you went sound corners but you had that extra traction when you needed it, and since it was all mechanical and not air or electric, it never failed. Oh, and of course it was a manual. I think ALL wranglers should always only be manual. You just have so much more control off- road with a manual than an automatic..

I love it! Reminds me of my old 78 CJ-7. Automatic, Quadratrac, low range, emergency drive, and I rode it three seasons with that bikini top. It was bright red, too, with 30x10.5 tires.

The best physical feature is the pre 1992 roll bar with the downward slanted rear bar. Awesome! 👌
Half doors and a soft top are a must for basic weather protection. Give us a super reliable, torquey straight six instead of an overhead cam motor. And, of course, a manual transmission. Aside from those things, this could be a home run if they can just keep it simple!
Give this an option package for a “computer delete”, using a fully mechanical diesel, a 6 speed manual, a true mechanical transfer case, and a PTO to run equipment, and Jeep could easily lower the markup by fulfilling tons of international fleet vehicle orders in developing nations!
Canada is fast on our way to becoming a "developing nation"... send a couple our way please...

I am 59 years old I was raised in the mountains of West Virginia driving 1960 and 70 and 80 model Jeeps one of the best mountain vehicles ever made and hell yes I would buy one, also used to drive to K5 blazers but in my opinion Jeeps are more nimble and a lot of fun thank you for posting the video and getting my hopes up. 💥🔥💪🏁
I have 63 cj 5… all black with a 327 sm block ….two door… just like that … I love it!!!!
Reminds me of my CJ5 I had in the late 70s. Stationed at Ft. Ord, Ca, my 4 banger, manual transmission would routinely spank the much heavier, v8 automatics in hill climb and true off roading. Would buy one again!

@@cr9953 I use to have a Willy’s CJ3B. Extremely practical vehicle for farm/ranch use and recreational off-road use. I was really impressed with Roxor’s offerings.
The short cut is basically a modernized CJ or YJ even.
Jeep has been on a decades long trend of physical expansion. While it’s clearly been a huge success, the original size Jeep is still very exceptional for off road and daily driving applications.
Obviously this will be a harder sell to a family or an overlander, but all other purchasers should be enticed by the reduced cost and incredible capability. I had a YJ in high school and that thing was incredible. Sure there’s compromises, but it had charm and character that can’t be replaced. A new, shortened, and affordable jeep are very long overdue

If they did it would need crash protection features and they would probably sell it starting around $35k.
Reminds of my old CJ 5. When I bought it, it had no doors or top. When winter came, you just put on a snowmobile suit. I would buy one.

I heard them say "What we really want is a Willys". I've had a few over the years. Small lift, pizza cutter tires and it'll go anywhere.
Hell yeah, that's closer to what I drive now than the newer stuff. An LJ with a bikini top, half doors, and 31" tires is my daily driver.
As a filipino I see this as great news and if ever planned to be sold internationally I'm looking forward to seeing it more on the streets and adapted into local use, becoming a more adaptable and modern version of the current jeeps, jeep looks alikes, replicas, and jeepneys that we have which are still to this day mostly inspired by the old cj2 and m36 variants.
They need to make this with no computer, no cameras, manual only, $25k.
Cameras are federally mandated. Along with a ton of other stupid things that add to the final cost.

Just bring back the 1971 CJ 5, 225 V6, 4-1 transfer case, 44 rear, 30 front axels, auto transmission, soft top and doors . I ran this with a granny low turbo 350 transmission and an overdrive off the transfer case with 4-88 gears and 33 inch tires, Detroit locker in the rear and a lock right up front. IT CLIMBED WALLS. This was in 1995.....
Keep the 44 front axle.

I use to run my yj naked like that in 92. Fast forward to 2021 JL 2dr in Snazzberry Pearl. My wife lost interest so I sold my truck with intentions to make that into a naked runner but there was just no way without devaluing the vehicle so I sold it. This is exactly my idea of a Jeep. I would hope all the electronics and seats would be waterproof! A New 3 valve 4 cylinder no turbo with a 5 speed manual.
Wrangler Classic, basically do what some companies do, take an older model, put modern components in it and sell it cheaper. As much as I dislike Apple, what they do with iPhone SE is actually brilliant.
Modernize a TJ Sport and there ya go.

I'd like 31" or 33" tires. I really feel like 31" is a sweet spot for most applications (serious rock crawling or mudding being the exceptions). I'd like the option to get @ least a rear locker, but I probably wouldn't get it. 'lil "jump seats" in the back would be a cool option for the kiddos. Otherwise, if Jeep built this @ a $25k base price, I think LOTS of people would buy it.
Speaking of Suzuki, have you seen the latest Jimny? It has coil springs all around, 1.5L 4 cylinder, and now comes in a LWB version with 4 doors. And yes, they are still tiny compared to even the Shortcut.
Great little buggies, great little prices, but not for sale in the US and not road legal in any state.
I've been looking for a Jeep type vehicle in Taiwan. They don't sell Jeep. The Bronco is not offered. Cant find any old FJ40s. They do sell the Jimny but no removable roof.
Oh man, shades of my 1973 daisy yellow CJ5 bought new through the Navy Exchange in the Philippines for $3860 full price! 'Drove Imogene, Red Cone, etc. and all over western Colorado; we're now in a 2016 JKU. We've wondered if a concept vehicle like this might show up one day. Great idea, and you're right, they need to keep the price down. Thanks for this video, 'brings me back to a good place. Great channel, been following for a couple of years! We were at the 2023 EJS vendor show; fun time!
It be super duper awesome if Jeep brings it to life. The production version will have to have doors, headrests, and may have smaller tires BUT A simple basic vehicle like this in the mid-20’s would be nice. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. Backup camera can go in the rear view mirror eliminating need for screens. What I’d like is the steering wheel controls gone too, the joystick type cruise control behind the wheel will work, a column shifter, and bench seat with a fold down arm-rest.

I immediately thought of the series Tropical Heat and detective Nick Slaughter in his Jeep CJ. Only the color of the car was blue. I loved the series and the car.

I actually love how much of a throw back this is! Even has the Plaid print seats! They better not screw this up.
So many companies are shooting for those cheap vehicles to stay competitive in this market. Jeep and the Chrysler family are in a unique position with that 3.6 engine, it's been around so long that the R&D costs we're covered years ago. So they can put it in anything without adding the design of a new engine to the cost of the vehicle, definitely saving you thousands on your final invoice. Not sure how many other brands have a viable engine that's so long in the tooth but still in production.
Overall, I hope something like this comes to fruition. That Toyota truck they're talking about and something like this that is fun to drive and nimble and capable thanks to a light weight, while having everything you need and nothing you don't is just such an obvious path to go down. Hoping we see more like this.
I would absolutely buy one of these, reminds me a lot of the 1966 Ford Bronco I bought and my son now has sitting in his garage! Doors off, straight 6, 3 on the tree, 4:11 gears....so yeah sign me up!
My parents bought a CJ-5 in 1976, 6-cyl, 3-speed manual transmission, no A/C, with a soft top. I wish I had it now.

EVs are better off-road. Lower center of gravity. Much better low end torque. Way easier to control in sketchy situations.

I remember going to the auto show in 98 in Salt Lake City. They added “14 inches” to the normal two-door and added two doors. The prototype was called the 4-door Jeep Dakar….
They should offer the classic 4.0L in it

It won’t meet emissions standards and the CAFE fuel mileage hit would cost $$$$$. The pentastar is perfectly fine for this application
@@mattbrew11 Was about to say the Pentistar has been refined to a point that it would be the best replacement. The newer gens are pretty bulletproof and they give more HP and torque than the i6. I love my i6 in my XJ but I think a modern engine would be best. Now if they threw a hurricane engine in this thing.... I wouldn't complain.
@mattbrew11 The Hurricane would be better, as it is an I6, and turbocharged so it would be quicker
@@Dartingleopard while I agree the performance would be better but that vehicle is super lightweight and the v6 weighs less than the hurricane and is cheaper and less complex than the 2.0T. People forget how capable TJs were with a lot less power but the same weight as this Jeep
So... it's a (semi) modern CJ5 - In an era of $100,000+ Gladiators, this would be a nice change of pace

Was going to say, mine is Gladiator Sport at $42k but that was just before the market dropped $10k
I feel Gladiators are $10-$15 over priced but in a world where new is $40-$60k over it's best option...
You're basically describing the current Jimny which are super cool. You're also describing a modern TJ. I have an '04 Rubicon and love it so I have what you're describing minus modern electronics.
Looks like a modernized 72 CJ-5 I owned. Being a tall guy I upgraded to a CJ-7 for the increased leg room.
I want a small off roader!! I bought a TJ because it was “light” but would have much rather had the Suzuki Jimny if available. 😢

I disagree that the two door is already small enough. With the start of the JK the wrangler has felt broad shouldered and cumbersome to me. For a daily commuter the larger footprint and added cabin space are definitely nice. I daily a 2dr 2012. But off road in tight trails this little thing will absolutely rock. To me it’s a breath of fresh air with a nice helping of nostalgia. Now we just have to wait and see if they build it and manage to keep it 25k or (hopefully but not likely) less

Kudos if they make a fully-enclosed pedestrian version as a "pack-mate" to it. Make it a spiritual marriage of the old-school XJ and TJ ideas; have a small family of affordable vehicles on the shared platform.
This is the Jeep i would buy for overlanding. Stripped down and affordable. Reminds me of the CJ5 and 7 models.
This reminds me of the CJ 5 I had back in '78. shortly after I bought it they were banned because of "roll over" problems. Then right after that Suzuki Samurai,s got imported which also had "roll over" problems.
