Very rare to see a group with this much restraint and feel for whats best for the piece good on these guys for having such a good sense of what spice they bring to the soup and not overdoing it.
So glad to see surprise chef getting the exposure they deserve. Hopefully more people will know their name and join us in the vibe that surprise chef cooks up,
I just found this band a month or so ago. I was at a Q&A with St. Paul & the Broken Bones and one of the questions was about new bands you're listening to. The bass player mentioned this band so when I got home I looked them up. So glad I did.
I saw them at Felton Music Hall in the Santa Cruz mountains back in September. Amazing show! I was able to snag the set list and the guys signed it for me.
Been listening to these guys for a few years, happy to see this KEXP set in the queue this morning... so good. Nice shoutouts to The Putbacks and Menahan Street Band too
I think November has been the greatest month in KEXP history. A week full of bangers, been following these guys since they started and they deserve all the praise in the world.
really enjoy these guys, great music.its a note of morricone and also jamiroquai in there.i think a warm female soul voice would put them to another level
“I don’t think there’s a Genre that’s educated as many people as Hip-Hop, had made them passionate about all other kinds of music like hip hop has.” I can’t tell if he’s joking or not, but if not this is one of the most ridiculously exaggerated statements I’ve ever heard on air. Hip hop and rap are two of the worst cultural infections our society has ever ver had the misfortune of being plagued with. It brings violence and turmoil and simply bastardizes music.

Tough balance when you're talking about skill and egos. Best thing a band can do is trip hard on shrooms to kill that ego, then proceed with love.
I always thought that. Restraint for the sake of the jam. Sometimes it’s about the notes you don’t play than the ones you do.
Khruangbin
Agree mate, masters of minimalism.
This is why KEXP is so rad.
Bringing out the goods that we need.
You can’t fake the funk.

Finally, a band attempting to create music in the age old genre: obscure Tarantino needle drops
3058 Represent!

Which are the bands he points to as influences for them? Thanks
They got my vote 🚬🐢👍
🚬🥃🎚️📻🎵🧲🫀👍
Unexpectedly tasty
I attest to the funkiness of Chris Gill. Can rip a torp from outside 50 with a disco sherrin
When the winters theme dropped I came
cool
Sounds like musics written in Ableton, using loops. (in a good way)
best place at minute 4
did the percussionist stole his mum gilet for the performance?
anyway....Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
swimmin in that pocket
I can dig it. Downbeat funk
i believe strongly that the vino player should be wearing pit vipers.
Oh, damn. This is great! - dog watching me dance in kitchen- 🙄
Very tortoisey
These guys rip!
Where do buy clothes like that?
Parcels hand me downs
Good band fun sound but I can only take so much jam band with no vocals
Music for sloths 🦥
Great set. But.... Bootsy is the top of the international metric systems of funk now that James Brown is gone. Come on, now.
damn we really ran out of good band names
wtf
Agreed.
Why do bands have such terrible names these days
