My new favorite band. Hands down I enjoy pkaying my drums along with this music more than any other music i have heard. Thank you guys for the great music.
It is because no musician shows off -- the whole jam is a collaboration with modest solos to move the sound. I love how every facet of this band is relevant and intertwined throughout the music. It is chill and full of empty space with great trade-offs b/t the parts. Like a good conversation.
The guitar is a vintage Silvertone 1429, presumably purchased originally from a Sears catalog in the early 1960s on the cheap compared to the other big guitar manufacturers at the time. Those old DeArmond pickups are special - you don't really hear tones like that anymore.
I feel like everyone has been playing them for the past 10 years or so. They have gotten really popular again and unfortunately extremely overpriced bc of it.
so genius to create live music from the aesthetic of beatmaking with each musician looping a perfect figure of equal importance as everyone else in the ensemble. No need for solos when everyone is a soloist who drops in and out of the overall
damn, gives me flashbacks to when I was doing acid listening to Tortoise's "It's all around you." shout out to Woody Shaw's "Little Red's Fantasy" that Tortoise ripped the cover art from

No BS here. Just smooth jams
The silent spaces feel full because when the sound returns, it is right on beat every goddman time. Like for them, the sound never left. So good!

I came here for Baby Huey!
Hope he's safe!
I found SC a few months back and I freaking love them. Can I get the chords on the riff at 12:22? I need to play this a lot.
Sometimes it gives me the feeling of Headhunters by Herbie Hancock.
Came here from KEXP. The bass player looks 30 years younger here
Rude.
Some cinematic souls up in ya holes...
no wonder why they're called surprise chef. cause we never have to wait for them to cook, always serving grade 5 michelin
Surprise Chef rule! I just spun all their records tonight and needed more, so here I am
the sound is as if the sound can be touched

@@surprise-chef Thanks!!
Top notch always. Anyone know what pedals the guitarist has on his board? His guitar tone is proper
No board, just a wah pedal. Cheers!

Old porno kung fu soundtrack from 70's GO!
🤯
It’s great until the dry ass Juno sounds come in. I need a glass of reverb
the one guy on the keys controlling everyone (O).(O)
I’m so over the word vibe but then that overused word pretty much sums this up perfectly ☺️
Take back the _vibe_
Bands nowadays don't play variations anymore
A little reminiscent of Tortoise (just a bit) sure is funky though.
Totally
