Worth noting CA have said that black ark buildings no longer requiring growth was an oversight they will be reverting.
Your channel is a gold mine that I wish I had discovered earlier, so much good information!
Welcome! Glad it helped out mate. Cheers for the kind words!
Brilliant update guide, keep them coming!
Good stuff! Very excited to try out Lokhir and Rakarth.
Both are a blast. Enjoy!
Nice vid as always man. It is good to see you channel growing! Just a piece of advice, consider changing you mic, because RN sound quality is in my opinion the thing that is holding you and your amazing guides down the most.
Appreciate the feedback. Noted. Thanks mate!
fun fact
torture chambers of black arks not only stack with campaign victory, they also stack with each other and other faction bonuses
lokhir felheart is here recruiting max lvl black ark corsairs at turn 15
Haha that's hilarious. Thanks for sharing!
Do you mean black arks have to be in each others circles of influence to benefit from eachothers torture chambers!? Or just simply having black arks no matter where they are will stack upon eachothers torture chambers???
@@klaiken989 yes they need to be in range
Dude, great video! Super useful information and you present it well. If you do other factions I will definitely check them out. It seems you're trying to grow your channel but I hope you don't get too caught up in doing the cliché RUclipsr stuff. Like INSANE video titles or thumb nails. I'd wager WH3 players respect the info you've got more. Subbed!
Appreciate the feedback and completely get your point. There's other content creators that use similar thumbnails and literally read some text (no context, nothing) and I personally don't like it either. There was a lot of hysteria that the HE and DE were "bad" now and I really wanted to help calm the madness here. YT is a harsh machine, for creators like me where vids take 10's of hours to make and they live and die by a small picture I try to ensure that on the other side of that click is indepth explanation, insight and hopefully something that rewards the viewer rather than taking a cheap click from there. Let me know if it gets out of hand ;)
11/10 explanation fantastic. restarting my dark elf campaigns now.
Give em hell >:)
@@ElvenPlotArmour im having way more fun this time round. Pushed for alithinar early an crushed him got alliances with morathi and crone. Should be able to take her over in the next 10 turns.
The best IE guide for Dark Elves I’ve seen so far.
Excellent information, my Rakarth playthrough was too focused on land and it took me half the game to figure out a good balance with the buildings, I did ok with that still but watching this I feel I could have done a lot better.
If you want to see a similar disaster see my Malekith IE campaign. Overstretched and underfunded, you and I both played like WH2. WH3 wants the races to play more uniquely which means doubling down on your strengths. Challenge is just finding those strengths. I worked those strengths out and recently did another campaign as Malus and stomped it using these new fundamentals to test the theory.
No doubt you'll smash that next campaign mate! Let us know how it goes!
@@ElvenPlotArmour Thanks will do my dude yeah I'm starting to see little parts where I could have improved on now that I'm quite far into the campaign. Keeping the cash building below tier 3 helps keep the slave decline lower for sure but I didn't really expand my ports so much past tier 1 so I'm missing out on some good income there.
Very informative. Thanks.
Great explanations on why the DE faction is better and how to use them.
Thanks mate. Hopefully this helps a few players save the headache from falling on old habits!
I really dont think they are stronger with the new taxrates and there are boring now.
That is an awesome shot with Crone Hellebron and the archers firing from behind.
Yeah, when I shot that there was that thought of "I don't care. I'm making that fit" haha.
Wow! Look at that subscriber growth!
Thanks to champions like you. Cheers!
Thanks for the guide, I've watched it a few times now. With the focus on staying coastal would you suggest completing provinces for the edicts or simply focus on port settlements?
Edicts are nice and provinces should be something you strive for, but they're not worth expanding into if that final settlement is exposed, etc. This is why capitals are so powerful, they start with walls, allowing you to deal with revolts which is the other issue with overextension. I'd argue, with Dark Elves, even just a port with no other settlements is still excellent as you can defend them with your Black Ark.
Just dropped a Malekith walkthrough if that interests you!
ruclips.net/video/V297pm5bmA4/видео.html
I'd love to see a new (or a change to the existing one) dark elf faction that would be able to add hero capacity on their black arks, but would be unable to build any military buildings in their cities (along with maybe other buffs to balance things out)
I think lokhir felheart should have been that tbh
I like how Morathi has a unique building line but loses assassin accessability. I find it intriguing when there's a small cost to a strength and it adds character. Something like you suggest would allow "pairs" of black arks to attack together?
Good guide, DE is still very strong faction overall even without their slave system from WH2. But I still thinks that CA need to make diktats more usefull for late game.
I agree. I'd love them to upgrade when milestones are reached:
* Earn trade income of X/turn = Upgrade selling diktat
* Sack X settlements = Upgrade control diktat
Something like that so the tools grow with you
Any plans on an updated Dark Elves economy and Campaign mastery series? You and Mercy the Mad are my only go to reliable Druchii information.
Very good stuff, as always.
I don't suppose I could convince you to temporarily change your name to Skaven Plot Armour and do one of these excellent breakdown videos on the most unique race in the game?
Haha Skaven were S Tier with the elves in WH2 and objectively are the best implemented race in the entire game. They have great fans and it'll be a pleasure to cover them. The depth I go to on my videos limits my ability to jump around as freely so I tend to grind out 1 race at a time. They're high on the list and they'll get the typical Race, Hero & Faction/Rating treatment in due time!
Liked, subbed, comment offering the gods of algorithm.
Ty for the good watch.
Thanks to you and praise to the algo-godz
I agree that there would be more fun in playing dark elves if Ca added more complexity into the slave system. It would be even better if they made it also faction diverse complexity (something along the lines of Helebron sees the slaves as sacrifices while Morathi tries to corrupt them to increase chaos corruption, Lokhir chains them and makes them work in his arks and so on and so on).
I like this idea. How about if each faction had a unique Diktat?
Blessed Dread: +15 Growth/Turn for selected Black Ark, etc.
@@ElvenPlotArmour yeah, as I said there is lot of possibilities how to make the slaves more meaningful. Another idea I had was to use them as a currency and allow use of "empowered" ark abilities for certain amounts of sacrifices. Or maybe even allow empowered rituals for more slaves as a payment.
Subbed and liked.
This was fantastic to watch!
Which civ is next :D
Thanks for your support!
What would you like to see next?
@@ElvenPlotArmour Would love to see it with the Beastmen :D
good video, keep it up
god DAMN you need more views on this
Thanks mate!
Glad to know that the dark elves are still strong might give them a go when I complete my settra campaign
For sure! How you finding Settra in IE?
I’m liking that the tomb kings buildings are much cheaper and because it’s easier to get to higher tiered cities I can get my constructs much easier, so it feels much better in my opinion
My favourite campaign in the game so far is the Lokhir one. Cathay has so many major port settlements, I ended up with so many black arks I don't know what to do with them all. Two with each army and still some sitting around. I took sea lanes to Naggarond and smashed up the north, but that just gave me more black arks. Good problem to have I suppose.
Nice pick with Lokhir! He's an absolute demon now. It's not hard to see the devs knew his popularity and put extra care into his campaign. Both him and Rakath won big time! I'd argue malus has a more interesting time now too!
Im strugglint to maintain the slave popularion high. Should I swap the regular income building for slave pens on all T3 settlements?
I'd never recommend using pens until you're later in the campaign, honestly. Don't touch them until a settlement is T4 (there are better options to improve your economy or increase hero cap).
If you're slave decline rate is too high, potentially you've upgraded your Workshops to T3 too soon? This is why I recommend getting higher volume of T1 and T2, but the other element is always having at least 1 or 2 offensive wars where you can bring in new worker every turn. Simply upgrading your settlements will increase your cap and constant combat will bring in the numbers. The only real balancing act is not upgrading your workshops too high, too quick and ensuring you have battles to win. I like this demand for combat the new economy imposes on you!
Thank you so much for this video. Nothing related to this video, but how did you change ui colour? Mod?
No mods! Each faction has a new default colour scheme. Gone are the days of ...red ...everything!
Oh really? That’s great! I didn’t realize. My first Immortal campaign was Karl Franz and now I will play Tyrion next. It’s good to play my favourite race, the HE, once again. With blue ui.
@@SirRiche Nice work. How did you find Karl?
Well, he’s all our fav legendary lord to start with. Start is similar to the original games, but you are at war with Khazrak, not the greenskins to the south. Once I dealt with the seccesionist, our beastman friend was next. Then Festus went to war with me. Once I delt with him, along came Grom, Vlad, norscans, Heinrich, Skrag and Aranessa to war with me.
Also the system with dealing with the elector counts was more challenging, since i had a hard time getting authority. If an empire faction gets destroyed, you lose a lot of authority so i had a hard time confedorating all the factions. The only one I got was Balthasar Gelt.
So overall Karls campaign is more challenging. Not for beginners as CA suggests. But still had a lot of fun, and it was a wise and honorable choice of having Karl as my first Immortal Empires campaign.
So I’m considering a malekith campaign, what would you recommend as my army composition, I get dark shards, but is it worth darkshard shields? And what melee unit to coincide with them and how much of said unit do you recommend? I struggle with this
It's alright man, it's a complex game. Shields and units with high Melee Defence make the best line holders. Because your crossbows have shorter range, checker board them, select the formation and ALT+Left click to move it up. Doing this with 2 Dreadspears on the front and 2 on the sides will absorb the arrows.
For every 3 archer/cross bows, get x1 lineholder. This is a sound loose rule for ranged base armies. in addition to this, try to have a master or other hero up front to pin the enemy down so your crossbows can work. Recommend seeing my latest video on Malekith, I think this will give you some great ideas and avoid the mistakes I did haha.
@@ElvenPlotArmour thanks dude! That’s a big help! And keep up with the great videos!
I only wish I could combine faction traits. Because Lokhir + Beast Pens would basically be my dream faction.
Your user name suggests you're quite the Lokhir player...
Little tip/bug Names of power can be added to a lord multiple times by disbanding the lord everytime the lord with a NOP is disbanded you can add another one.
Haha that's hilarious. I never found that one!
@@ElvenPlotArmour Yeh ive had alot of fun trying to get 3 lords with all traits from the options planning of finding the right lord to make a one man doomstack.
I have a few thoughts on the slave rework
1 - its a shame slaves are no longer capital to be accumulated and invested as much as they're a resource to be spent
2 - its a bit weird that tier 1 buildings are the most slave efficient, it seems to be a trap for new players who may assume that higher tier building is strictly superior while in reality you may be better off leaving your workshops at tier 1
I kind of like the careless regard for life that they're a resource to be spent. Regarding your second point, that was the trap I fell into. Except for earliest turns, T2 is always worth getting. Holding back on upgrading your processing is what stagnated my economy in my first game. So long as you're a naval aggressor, churning through the new recruits I found it's gangbusters. So long as you raid, you'll always be rewarded. Just sharing because my first and second campaigns left me feeling completely different about the new system
DE lords can also get one of the best starting traits, Spiteful. The Master can also get Spiteful.
Indeed! There's another army buff one that alludes me right now!
Grombrindal and Taurox are a pain and then Valkia man
I feel you. My Malekith stream was a ball ache from moving in too far. Staying near the coast means Grombrindal should have several enemies before you and Valkia will likely attack Crone before you. Meanwhile you get rich..... but yes, I had to go through 50 turns of pain to work out this was the better idea haha
@@ElvenPlotArmour what i did was malekith kicked grombrindal little butt and conquered his lands, made peace with khatep and secured my border, made friends with clar karrond, so suthern border contained, and the i led two armies (malekith) and other lord and im kicking the door of valkia and the mung. My army composition is 1 lord 1 mage, and one hero and then 2 reaper bolt throwers, 2 bleak swords 4 dread spears and then crossbows. I think sun tzu would be proud. Malus drags me to many wars, im friends with har ganeth and im at war with taurox and alith anar.
every race in this game is OP
Where can I find your discord link?

My bad! Here it is. Description updated with it. Thanks mate!
what do u think about red climate, i feel like rakarth has very good climate combo
Red climate is something I typically avoid in the early stages. More likely to rebel and 2 turns to raise units means you have to babysit a province which is also earning less. Exceptions can be made, if it's a walled capital to fence off your frontier, but otherwise, letting the green lights guide you is sensible. Keep in mind orange is fine, but I'd only take it early if it has strategic purpose and would avoid venturing deep into very "orange" areas when there's green options around. If your allies control the green, then sure, turn that way.
But red territory needs to have a reason to take more than "it's right there!" imho. Rakarth has excellent climate and territory!
when you gona do malekit ? interested how you do malekit start
His walkthrough will likely be one of the next couple of videos. I've been pushed for Eltharion next. The rough overview is mentioned in this video. Take Har Klandra Turn 1, then head straight for Hag Graef. Peace out with the rats Turn 2 or Turn 3. You're done with them! Leave them for the Dwarves. Take the coastal settlements from there and head toward Kar Karond.
Apologies for the wait, cheers for supporting the channel!
@@ElvenPlotArmour dwarfs are not then danger for you later ?
@@malak299 Put walls on Hal Kaldra... What's he going to do? Siege that or 2 Fortresses (Naggarond & Hag Graef). He's *very* dangerous, but if you head east, by the time he gets to you, you have the wealth to build any relief armies. Remember, he's even more unpopular than you where he starts and I've heard some say he's gotten wiped naturally. As per my Imrik guide. Avoid the mountains with Elves until you're ready. Don't play *their* game. If they want you then they have to come to the coast and play yours instead (which means within BA support)
@@ElvenPlotArmour ok thanks , really good tips 👌
Have you noticed any new magic items in general?
Not so far. That's not to say they'll never get one. But Elves are typically strong in the character department and they don't really need it. I'd expect it in a year or so when powercreep maybe sets in... though all elves have gone from S to A+ where the highest rank is A+ now so.....
@@ElvenPlotArmour I was hoping for more ranged item options
Am I delusional or are Dual Weapon's turn times increased from 1 to 2 and Greatswords from 3 to 2?
You're 100% correct. They've kept the basic Shade as a T1 unit but have reworked the variants to be "advanced T3 versions". This is kind of sweet as it means you either choose between budget or specialisation. Duel Weapons do more damage now to define them as a T3 unit
@@ElvenPlotArmour Whats the difference between the two? Dual seem to have more melee defemce but GS have armor piercing
I honestly think cold -ones should be ant infantry, like melting infantry as much as hounds melt archers...
I agree they need more of a niche. They're still fun to have a couple of units with Malus :) There's a misconception that a unit is "bad" just because you don't field 10 at a time.
@@ElvenPlotArmour i feel that they are a bad unit because they dont feel like they belong to their respective tiers, and take too long to recruit... 3 Turns for a sub par tier 5 cav when, for those same turns, you can have hydras (which you can doomstack) at tier 4... Their only "saving grace" is that the building they come from is one you always spam... So if you are away from the coast you can always recuit them... I guess
Any thoughts about how badly elves were powercrept in TWW3? Jade warriors (shields) and Celestial guard crossbows are the best archers now better than SoA and Darkshards (boosted) its crazy. Elves aren't even good archers anymore.
Perhaps in MP, but in SP Dark Elves really haven't been crept at all. Much of it is beneath the surface though. Dark shards have double the AP and are more accurate than Jade Crossbows. Yes, Cathay outperform DE in a lineholding capacity, but that's ignoring DE's other strong tools in the early game such as magic, mobile archers and strong flanking options. I truly feel once they get more dragonlords, they will be the greatest power, but in campaign they're far from there yet. Yes, Cathay have better technology and good discipline, but the high end elf units are experienced. Shades are an all round stronger unit than celestial crossbows when considering their abilities and melee capability. This video shows how you can hire 7 units at level 7 thus getting +15% range from General, and +15% from Research. That's 170 range, easily obtainable. Cathay are criminally underrated but need 1 or 2 DLC to unleash that potential. War is about logistics and Black Ark power gives them control/efficiency that's hard to match. As for High Elves, Sisters of Avelorn are even more accurate, has insane AP. They are outgunned but can outbrawl the mighty Waywatchers (who imho's combination of strengths gives them the ranged crown). If elves feel not as good in IE, I believe it's because the new meta allows more than just arrows and spells to shine. All 3 elven factions have strolled into IE in top tier when their campaign abilities and meta are considered. Sorry for the longwinded answer haha.
@@ElvenPlotArmour I feel a bit better about that. Just struggling getting used to the new sieges I can't just solo the garrison with my lore of fire lord anymore or snipe the garrison with archers. Hopefully elves get some new units later on.
@@indorilnerevar8716 Seriously mate, the new sieges take bit to feel "good" with. Honestly, it'll just happen after a few hours of play. You'll get better and more comfortable. It's a combo of better AI with raft of new elements that feels jarring. Once you find you're feet it's actually fun.
I don't agree with the slave economy change, hope that it can be undone via mods. I enjoyed that aspect of DE play in WHII with ransacking and pilfering my way up and down the coast to invite new peoples to Naggarond.
That's cool. I invite you to give it another chance as I found by the end of the campaign I missed it far less. Being able to work a bunch of workers to death to quickly build up a new province, sell of some excess, etc was actually quite fun and more of a top-down distribution.
There's still improvements I'd like, but overall I think this encourages aggressive naval play which I dig!
The fact that they are one of the strongest, doesn’t mean they weren’t nerfed like hell.
Where the early game is easier you have much, MUCH weaker mid and late game.
Still Dark Elves nerf is nothing compared to High Elves nerf. That thing is just disgusting.
Respect your take and can see how it looks like a massive nerf, but in the WH3 meta I still feel they are very strong. Black Ark recruitment of lvl7 shades with 30% range I'd say is a very strong mid-game and Black Dragons now hit harder.
I strongly feel the high elves are still the strongest order race in the game (I have a similar vid explaining why... I also forgot to mention outposts generate influence too!). Certainly not dismissing your opinion, just my first impressions have become far more positive the more I've played so I hope you find the same.
@@ElvenPlotArmour My main "grudge" with high elves is that buildings are more expensive, and you don't earn more money from money buildings. Also, entrepreneur trait doesn't give enough money for it to be a viable money making strategy.
Yes you might get more influence, but in terms of gold you are extremely poor now.
*laughs in Tomb King gold avalanche*
Tomb Kings earning more money than High Elves is just "outrageous, unfair"
@@ElvenPlotArmour About Dark Elves I can agree that in WH2 you earned much more than you needed to, and in WH3 you most definitely earn enough (still quite a lot).
What I don't like is that you cannot min-max your economy to earn absolute tons, which you could in WH2.
I'm a person who loves min-maxing everything, and when you can't, because the developer simplified the system, and made it impossible, I get super annoyed.
It's fine as it is, but it was better.
2.1 Update nurfed the Black Arks, have to pay development now...shame
That's alright, they're still boss. You still had to pay for the construction so it's not like they were free. Thanks heaps for sharing the confirmation!
I'm sorry to say, but no.
The current slave economy is absolutely crushing. Having 6 provinces will net you a 810 to 1650 slave loss per turn (with an avg of 3 regions per province). That requires 3 to 9 black arks which takes 75 to 225 turns (3 to 9 major ports for Lokhir) to get which means that.
No amount of "raiding" will offset this loss and it just exponentially gets worse the bigger you get. You don't get much if any slaves from killing units unless you also kill a lord - thank CA for that genius implementation. It means that once your empire is bustling and fairly big - you gain slaves with a raid from your black arks and your black arks wouldn't even get back to a port to sell them and then they're gone again. It is about as far from lore as it can be.
This. Slave. System. Is. Horrible.
It isn't even remotely thought through.
I think they're on the cusp of a really great system and I like the concept of having to go out sacking for slaves, but there's something that's not quite clicking. They're slowly tuning it and it'll likely take a few new patches to get there. I can handle difficult mechanics if they force me to play as that race should, so I personally don't find this unenjoyable, but I think it currently sets people on the back foot far too easily and I completely understand the mixed response.
I think it'll get there I'm sure :)
Cheers for sharing!
Jesus, after huge nerf economic de is dead and have nothink special, its pathetic shadow of real power de in tw2
From WH2 it might seem like this, but I think it's important to consider this WH3 with DE being imported rather than purely nerfed. In this new ecosystem they have more recruitability, movement and combat flexibility than most other factions. If viewed as a competitor as part of a roster they are top tier. While producing unlimited money in WH2 was strong, it wasn't the sole source of their power. Wealth in excess o your costs really is 'excess'. Is losing excess really that much of a nerf?
@@ElvenPlotArmour i understand ur opinion, but i think remove this unique feature was incredible stupid and very very lazy for ca, new slave system looks like a joke for me, no incredible income, i even cant enslave half of the world and put them into naggarond, quintex or yvresse, so was incredibly fun and satisfying(
