Hey Josh, love the content. We used to use steel box downspouts with our box gutter for years. The last couple years we switched to aluminum. We just take our 15 inch coil to the metal shop and have them fabricate 3 x 4 box downspouts. Cutting with the snips and installing takes about half of the time. Plus we are able to color match with all of our gutter with the exact same coils.
It looks great. I just found your channel. Cool to see someone that has mastered this trade. I work with many contractors and it’s cool to see the ones that are passionate about there craft.
When I started guttering we made the downspout with four sides and put it together with a Pittsburgh seam. That 24 ga was a nightmare. Did a military base with thousands of feet of that. Never seen any downspouts like this. To me it looks unfinished.
Wow Josh! I've never seen that type before. I love it! How is the water flow though. Does it splash out of the font of the downspout? I can't wait till my business it at a point where I'm doing custom jobs like that. Nice work man!
Unless the customer requests open downspouts which in my 25 yrs installing is very rare. With this I would take that insert have them bent the other way with hems on each side. That becomes the cover. The top downspout with the elbow needs to be turned around with the open face exposed so it matches the one on the wall. Then the covers go on. I put a bead of caulking inside the covers the full length when you push the covers on over the open faces downspouts you will never get leaks. Screw the cover to the back downspout close to the wall minimum of 16 inches. Good job using the right screws with washers. I would also caulk the screw heads as the rubber washers will break down over time because they are right in the path of the water. It's more work to do it this way. The gutter belongs on the roof not the wall. But it's what ever the customer wants nice work.
